We were quite surprised at the lack of first class service at the Westin in Savannah.
The restaurant staff is not god and the bell staff was lacking

We celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary at the hotel. Champagne and chocolate strawberries were delivered to our room, a gift to us. Excellent choice.

The Westin was an excellent choice for my family to stay at while visiting Savannah. The staff was exceptional and the ammenities were excellent.

The hotel was in a great location across the Savannah River and had a complimentary ferry that ran until midnight from the hotel to River Street.

The Westin Savannah is a model for the industry. It's employees' are second to none. The whole experience is/was incredible! The AQUA STAR!!!

We just returned from a five night stay. My husband played golf while I went to the spa We both enjoyed ourselves. I want to compliment the staff: In particular, I want to thank 3 staff. Simon who could and probably should be the concierge He led us to some great local cuisine. Luis from security who definitely knows customer service. Gregory who not only serves drinks but makes your day by making you smile Thanks to all three and the rest who were always friendly Our only disappointment was the food service We had a good dinner (the seafood night) and one in room dinner both were good BUT my husband could only get a bagel or toast at the golf club both mornings He was not sure if it was due to the early hour or just the menu? Back at the hotel the Starbucks food was not much better The yogurt parfait was watery and the microwaved panini was not much better One morning we went to the restaurant for breakfast There were no eggs or butter we had to wait for plates we never did see bowels come for oatmeal, the food was barely Luke warm BUT again the staff know customer service and comped our meal. Thank you staff !!!! You make that hotel what it is!

A hold was put on my credit card for the $50 incidental fee (I only used my card to hold the room when the reservation was made and I was never told that a $50 hold for incidentals would be put on it). We gave another card at check in for the incidental fee and a hold for $50 was also put on that card. So they actually put a hold on both cards. When I called to check on that Friday after I got home they could never find a manager for me to speak with and all the explanation I was given was that they always charge every card they have on file. For a super nice hotel that simply does not make any sense to me. I did receive a call back late Friday afternoon from the same person I spoke with in the financial office and she said that she said that she had been unable to get in touch with a manager and that she would call my bank and try to get the hold released. I know to most people $50 dollars might not matter, but to me it is often the difference in a check being honored or being returned. This changed the way I looked at my whole experience with the hotel. I simply cannot understand why it would be this hard to get something like this handled from such a high class hotel.

Front desk staff seemed to be new to the job and their inability to make decisions started the stay on questionable terms. I simply asked if we could have a room facing the city but front desk stated, "we already upgraded you to a larger room and the hotel is mostly booked". I left it at that as we had been in the middle of a home move and traveling for quite some time. I am a Platinum member and used my suite upgrade nights to ensure a more comfortable room and additionally, another staff member stated the hotel was nowhere near capacity. After checking in, we noticed the movie features were not working on the tv and asked the front desk if they could help out. To my surprise, no one ever showed. Restaurant was under renovation but bar and room service staff were outstanding and seemed to make us forget about the sub par front desk. Over all, the hotel is beautiful and well maintained and everyone (except one front desk attendant) on the staff were outstanding and accommodating. The ferry service was always right on time and made travel to the, "main land" extremely easy. I would defiantly recommend staying there as I am sure the front desk issues have probably already been fixed.
