Rated 1 out of 5 by Fromo Never go to this hotel
This is a venue that seems not so old from the outside. But once you go into your room you see the poor maintenance and dirty furniture, chairs in bad conditions, ants walking all over the nightstands and the bed. Shower not working properly.
Noises everywhere, wrong parking signalling.
And WORST of all: The internet is expensive and barely works.

We were SO excited to arrive at the Westin Ft. Lauderdale- escaping the cold weather up north for a business/leisure week vacation. I stay in Westin's all the time- my preferred property and always feel the attention to detail and properties are above the rest...unfortunately Ft. Lauderdale has missed the mark on many levels.
Upon arriving earlier than check-in (requested early check in twice) we were rudely greeted by the front desk man who had no solution or accommodation to offer us other than to say our room is not ready and continued to look down at the computer and type away. We had lots of luggage- no offer to hold it until later, or any accommodation for us change into something more suitable for Florida weather. I never arrived at a hotel after a flight and felt more unwelcomed than this property! First impressions are everything in the service industry, some front desk training is heavilyyyy needed here.
After suggesting to the front desk man to direct us to rest rooms where we could change and ASKING if we could leave our bags there until later that day we began to search for pool towels or any towel we could bring to the beach (prior to getting into our room) He directed us to the pool...obviously we don't have room keys to get into the gym to get towels. Once another guest let us in...no towels were to be found. We ended up going to Target to buy towels...yet another major accommodation in a beach town that would be nice for guests to have access to (and not just the first 15 people to the pool that day)
When we finally did get into our room- the ONE and only reason I booked this hotel over the beach location hotels was because I booked the balcony room...open the door and no balcony. We call the front desk and the girl said to wait an hour and we could transfer rooms...we don't unpack or shower, waiting to get switched, an hour passes and she calls to let us know that no room with a balcony is available for the duration of our stay. How is that possible when I BOOKED a balcony room???
Numerous other incidences with the staff being completely LAZY just left me eager to leave this place. Never enough shampoo/conditioner (who wants to call for that when you are in the shower already), no follow up when calling concierge for a taxi, elevators breaking and having to climb 15 flight of stairs, no greeting from the front desk when entering the front doors each time...are we as guests inconveniencing you while at your job? That is the vibe we were left with.
We certainly will not be returning on our next visit to the area.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Jdebello worst SPG experience yet
Stayed this past weekend, valentines day weekend 2014, arrived at 4:30 to my room not ready, was offered a non-deluxe room (reserved deluxe) or an additional hour wait, no big deal, took the downgrade. Checked into room to find feces? on the toilet bowl under the seat and other stains on bed sheets and "clean" towels. Stuff like this doesn't bother me much, however shortly after my girlfriend and I ordered room service which at first glance looked delicious, but it wasn't until my girlfriend had taken a few bites that she had discovered a long wiry piece of metal embedded into her burger. This metal scratched the inside of her mouth, but luckily did not do any more damage. We took a photograph of the metal and then called the front desk. The manager immediately came up and took the piece of metal away and comped the $25 meal (gee thanks). Later that evening upon returning and call us crazy, but it was late and there were no options, we called down to order some late night snacks (and by late night I mean 11:00PM not 3am) to the room and the phone range to the front desk/service express continuously for 10-15 minutes which prompted me to go down to the lobby only to be told "we're really busy down here". I had asked that someone come up and clean just the bathroom and provide us with a couple new towels (this never happened). I am a diehard SPG fan, and go out of my way to stay with SPG, this experience was not representative of my overall experience with Westin or SPG, but needless to say a very disappointing experience, we ended up leaving a day early and not staying the duration of our reservation.

I am very concerned staying in this hotel. I asked to be moved due to highway traffic noise. 2nd room is better but both rooms smell heavily of mold and I will address with the manager. Moist feeling in the room as well as mold odor.

Many rooms not ready for check in upon arrival at 3pm on a Sunday.
Elevators not in service for a day and a half. Guests had to use service elevator that required you to walk through the service/kitchen areas with trash and garbage. My understanding is that this hotel has had numerous issues with the elevators.Room had a chewed piece of chocolate on the floor when i checked in.

Rated 4 out of 5 by MarkTexNYC Great property, Great Value
I was in town for business, sadly nothing to do with beach/ocean/sunscreen/waves. In fact, I have no idea how far this Westin is from the beach...
For the rate I paid, I feel like I got a ton for my money, especially when it came to SPG platinum recognition. I was upgraded to a spacious suite that was super comfortable to spend hours upon hours working.
Close to FLL. Plenty of parking. Generous SPG platinum amenities. Shuttle that will take you around (but not airport). Awesome staff who remembers your name and follows through on what they're supposed to.
I will most definitely stay here on all trips to Ft. Laud.

I stayed in room 1427 - one of the large deluxe rooms and the room was horrible. I checked in around 8pm and the room was dark - had a tough time finding a light switch - no switches by the door. The TV was small and faced didn't fac ethe bed - 2 people in bed couldn't watch tv comfortably. The sitting area was large and away from the bed - TV couldn't be seen from the sitting area. I called for some extra pillows and was told that none were available because hotel was full - then about 11pm - got a know at the door and they had pillows. NOT WORTH $250

I'm not one that normally writes a review. But as a frequent traveler and Platinum member I thought it would be beneficial to pass along this information. This property needs to be renovated. It is tired and certainly not up tp normal Westin standards. It is the first Westin that I have stayed in that has made me feel like I paid too much for the accommodations.
My comments have nothing to do with the staff as everyone was nice and helpful.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Mark This hotel needs a refresh
The carpet is worn and unlike other Westin's nothing in the lobby pops and really draws you in. I had issues with the ice machines (on multiple floors) and the internet was spotty at best. The beds are still the most comfortable in the industry and the staff provided excellent service to try to make up for the problems with the property. However, I'm not a person that wants to call for service or help. I'd rather you just have everything work to begin with. I didn't hate the hotel and I wouldn't have an issue staying there again but I also can't say I would recommend it.

This hotel is in a great location in relation to our second office. However, over the last few months/year we have seen the hotel continue to detiorate in condition and appearance. There are holes in walls, regular failures of elevators and a general "worn" appearance. More often than not, in the guest rooms appliances and outlets will not work.
I like to use other Westin properties throughout the state as well, but this hotel is making me pause when considering other Westin properties.

This Westin is a gem !!! Great Front Desk staff...GREAT food and service in the Restaurant (the salmon was exceptional)...GREAT Fitness facilities with an enchanting pool...GREAT location for pre/post cruise...and best of all - GREAT Platinum Recognition! We were upgraded to the Presidential Suite upon check-in. Quite a treat with a huge balcony and extremely large bathroom and dressing area. All staff were exceptionally polite and helpful.

While not a frequent guest, I've stayed at this Westin several times over the past years. It was hard to believe how much the hotel has declined over the past few years since I last stayed there. Westin offers a clean, crisp experience and the facilities always seem well cared for. This Westin seemed tired and (I hate to say it) a bit shabby. The floors and surfaces of the public areas and restaurant were simply not clean. The room smelled musty. The staff seemed a bit disinterested. The pool area had stained deck chair cushions. This hotel is not worthy of the Westin reputation.

Excellent, comfortable room. Convenient location, nice people working there. One computer in business center did not work and could not be fixed while I was there. 50% off on food for platinum members plus free parking. Needs a club lounge. Lots of cruise passangers staying there.

Rated 2 out of 5 by HP2012 Not to Westin Standards
While this hotel may be a Westin, it certainly doesn't live up to the Westin or even SPG standards. The staff was complacent and were absent from their areas of responsibility most of the time (ie, bellman not available anywhere while 3 of us were waiting for assistance, turndown service that was never done even though I requested it, and poor service at the restaurant when I had breakfast the last day). The room needed serious updating and the towels smelled like mildew - all of them.
I would not recommend this hotel if you are planning to visit the FLL area.

Rated 2 out of 5 by LeeLeeN Not what you expect from a Westin
This particular Westin has that "Westin aroma" that we're used to when we walk in. Our room did not smell fresh. It was humid and had the smell of mold and mildew. The property itself is in need of much repair but the biggest let down was the fitness center. It was very small and crowded with too much equipment. The Westin usually has a very nice fitness facility but this one is not maintained, nor is it clean and well stocked with towels. The business center is a joke, smaller than a half bathroom. The staff was friendly and the food was good.

Assigned room 517 just after midnight.
Floor lamp had bulb hanging loose with exposed wiring.
Desk lamp inop.
Moved to room 1000.
Room has an unpleasant odor. Too late to make another switch.
Iron full of corrosion. Two more irons brought to the room were also contaminated with rust and residue. Could not iron a white dress shirt.
Could not log in to wifi.
No desk phone. Bed phone defective.
It was two AM before I got to bed after a 14 hour duty day and having been up since 7:00 AM.
Next morning, breakfast meats in the buffet were cold.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Linda Can't believe Westin would keep their name on this
We had a room that the air conditioner panel fell off in the night. So much MOLD and Dirt behind it, I couldn't believe it. By second night had to go to DR. because of mold reaction.Room 1027. Then moved to 624 for last night. Ants were all over bathroom floor. Called and maintance was going to come but never showed up. Went to store and got spray and ant trap. Following morning woke up to soaked carpet by bed. Dampness, (wetness) ran all the way to the phone stand. Carpet Squished when we walked on it. Pillow on floor was soaked! Imagine that on air quality!
Went to dining room to eat. Only 2 tables besides mine. Waited 40 minutes for a sandwich before I questioned where it was Forgot to put the order in as she was in animated discussion with colleagues. Gave food free, but had to take it as no time to eat before appointment. Extremely irritating
.Dining room closed on Sunday during day..Odd as there are no restaurants close. Not enough chairs by pool so couldn't sit out on Sat or Sunday.Front desk nice. When we changed rooms he gave me some points for the inconvenience but when I checked out different man did it and he didn't say anything, so I said, " Aren't you going to ask how my stay was?" He said, We are so busy, how was it.?" I said, " Horrible". He said, " I'm sorry to hear that!
We then went out to a dead battery on our car, absolutely no connection to Westin, but went to see if they had someone who could jump it, but said "No, I have no idea who you could call". Thank goodness we had AAA. We are frequent Westin guests, both Starwood and on our own. We have NEVER experienced any Westin even close to being so bad.

This is a tired property not worthy of the Westin name. A worn out princess that has seen better days. Even Scarlet O'Hara can't turn the curtains into a dress. If you literately enjoy hearing everything that goes on in the hallway and thin thread bare sheets and hard as rock past their prime towels are your thing. You are welcome to visit not to mention that you can literally hear the I-95 traffic hum in your room. Beep beep!

My husband booked this hotel to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. The entire hotel staff was very friendly The treated us like we were royalty. Even though there was a convention going on that weekend, it still did not seem to be overcrowded. We are going to make this an annual trip for our anniversary. This was our first time at the Westin, but it not be the last. The hotel looks just like the pictures on the website.

Rated 5 out of 5 An almost perfect stay
The hotel itself is great. The rooms are nice, beds are comfortable, staff was friendly. The only problem we had and it turned out to be a big problem was taxi service from this hotel. If you have a party larger than 4 people, it is almost impossible to get a taxi to go anywhere. Beware! They will try to make you take two taxis and charge double but if you are persistent enough and call other companies other than yellow cab, you can get picked up.

Rated 2 out of 5 by dank22 Seriously?
I have stayed at this hotel more than a half dozen times. The convenient access to the highway is really the only positive. Last TUESDAY the 10th of January, they had a party by the pool. DJ was so loud it was unbearable. The front desk made their best effort and got the DJ to turn down the music at 10:00, but the party kept raging until 11:30. What kind of hotel has a party by the pool until 11:30 on a weekday? Unacceptable.

This is an average facility and really lower tier compared to other Westin properties. The staff tries hard but this is a dated place that unless is renovated, will always have the dated feel.
When the lounge is busy, service is slow as usually only one person works the area.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Steffanie24 Will never stay here again
I have never had such a bad experience in a hotel. We were not impressed with your staff. You either do not have enough staff or they are over worked, no requests were ever met, unless asked multiple times. Waited at the check in desk for 10 minutes for the attendant to finish with a phone call, only to be pushed aside from an angry guest, complaining about something; your attendant did not appologize for the interruption or the wait. When I complained the only answer I recieved was they were "sorry". Concierge never answered phone, (tried 12 times in one night). Had to call the main desk from my cell phone to get anyone to answer. Very disappointed! I think this hotel ONLY caters to the Cruise guests; they are in and out. They could care less about the guests who stay longer than 24 hours. Asked for towels at the pool 2 days in a row, never recieved any. Asked for 2 extra towels for my children since only 2 are provided in the room, waited 4 hours to recieve them after 3 phone calls to the desk. I was charge $20 per person/per day over the (2) occupancy; I'm assuming this is for extra towels and work for the hotel staff. I could have purchase my own towels at a local store for cheaper. and believe me your staff did no EXTRA work for the Extra I spent to have 4 people in a room. Dirty around the pool. bathroom tub was not clean. I will never make the Westin mistake again.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Birthday Update the beds
Heavenly beds were not even cloise to Westin standards. Both beds needed replacement awhile ago. Room service waiter asked about the beds, I told him they were poor, but nothing was done. Why ask in the first place if you do not plan on doing anything about the answer? He told me management insturcted him to ask everyone. Do they know the beds are not up to standard and want to know how many people notice? I sure did.
No pool towels, even after I called and asked for them.
Carpets were stained, although appeared to be clean.
Pool is great, but no towels is a real drag.

Rated 2 out of 5 Nice pool but rooms need maintenance
The best part of the hotel is its swimming pool, it is unique in that the depth of the water goes across the width of the pool rather than the length which means you can walk all the way across the pool and means you can enjoy the entire length of the pool without concern for depth. The major downside of this hotel is that the rooms need maintenance, one towel had a yellow stain, and there was a "personal" hair on the bathroom floor, and the sink water was yellow. This alone degraded the entire hotel. This hotel does not deserve a category level 2 rating. Fix the rooms and get them clean and spiff up the parking lot a little (it looks abandon with a non functioning pay gate) and you can get it back to category 2.
