This Westin was above average for the staff, but average for the facility with some notable exceptions. The pool is great, and the public spaces are very nice. However, the rest of the hotel really needs some face lifting. It does look as if some construction is occurring with the hotel. There's not much to recommend it from the front of the hotel as you drive up to it. The parking is a challenge, to say the least. Every night when we arrived back at the hotel, the parking lot for self parking was full. The good thing about that was that the valet takes care of the vehicle at no extra charge. The bad thing is that, obviously, there are not sufficient facilities for the guests. Maintenance of the property is somewhat of a challenge. The air conditioning was hit and miss (mostly miss). Hot water for shaving in the morning was a five minute ordeal at the faucet and then it was still lukewarm. The breakfast buffet is a typical high price, but missing the usual items at most Westin buffets like smoked salmon, Eggs Benedict, et cetera. Overall, I give it a rating of four. However, the location is absolutely stunning. If that were the sole criterion, it would rate a 5+!

...but I'm done with it.
* The suites are nice and large, with very comfortable beds. They're also great about roller beds for kids. It works out really well for a family of four when your kids are old enough that they need their own space but not so old that you want to put them in a separate room.
* Great pool area, other than the usual seat camping that happens at a place like this.
* Renting a cabana is a great way to reduce the stress of finding a place to park yourself for the day, but it's expensive.
* Convenience - location next to Whaler's Village opens up a lot of options for food within walking distance.
* Never enough people working the front desk. The first experience (checking in) has been terrible every time I've visited. Not because of the staff, who are very friendly, but because of the wait time.
* The restaurant is horrible. They have rebranded it as Sugar House. Mediocre food; friendly but clueless servers if you have questions about the menu. Can't really fault them because the selection isn't great and the food is bad.
* The beach tower needs renovation. Old and tired.
* Good luck finding an exercise machine in the gym that works (none of the touch screen controls on the ellipticals worked)
* For some reason, I never get my Starpoints credited. I went out of my way to make sure they had the SPG number on the account (the folio shows it) but still no credit. Booked directly from the Westin website, so it's not an issue of going through a 3rd party.
Basically, Westin rewards program management is about on par with this hotel's management - leaving much to be desired. This place was good enough to bring us back for a few years, but I'm done with the Westin Maui in particular and probably Westin chains in general.

The resort is nice; the outside areas are all very well done. The nature pond through the entrance is very appealing, as well as the swimming pools, and over-all design.
However, the rooms and internal structure were something else. The rooms are tired and in need of updating/repair. The wallpaper was bubbled up on the walls, there was something that was flooding the hallway by the elevator, and there were a lot of small things that needed attention but were not getting it (lights falling off the walls in the hallway, stains on all the carpeting, etc.). Seems like it was great when it was built but has fallen into a level of disrepair.
There was also a massive construction project going on while there. We were not aware of this when booking (only once we arrived), and as you can expect it really affected our time there. It was non-stop noise the entire time the work crews were on-site. It started in the morning, and went throughout the day until the evening. Forget sleeping late, or enjoying a quite day by the pool because all you heard were Sawzalls and hammer drills.
I would not recommend this place until all the construction is over with and the place has been cleaned up.

Upon arrival here we were greeted by the staff. Our room was not yet ready as it was only 12pm. We continued our check in process and were told that we could be switched from a lower floor to the top floor with mountain views. That sounded wonderful. We were told that a call would be made to us when the room was available. Around 3pm we thought it was weird that we hadn't received a call. We me t with a different check in person. She was a bit miffed by our desire to have that room on the top floor. We advised her that our initial contact offered this to us and that it was our Honeymoon she warmed up and gave us our room on the 11th floor. We had read some reviews about the construction and the noise. We saw a little remodel work going on but we experienced no noise.
We were given our cards and we proceeded to the room. We entered the room. What a great view of the mountains. The desk woman said we had "rainbow views" and we weren't let down. The room must have had a remodel. Very nicely done. It was a very comfy room. The Heavenly Bed was just that. The Heavenly Shower was just that. The room had ample storage as far as drawers and a nice closet. It has a roomy safe for your valuables. A mini fridge was helpful too.
The only thing about the room was IF the HVAC was not on we could hear the ELEVATOR two rooms away.
Staff: The Concierge, YVONNE, well she's the bomb!
She knows that island. She knows all the places to go, see, and do. She's got this file crammed full of all the information. She was AWESOME! the Bell/Valet,
RONZIE,he was too cool. Very very pleasant guy. Made us feel like we were at his own home. This guy LOVES his job!! He also teaches Ukelele just in case you wish to learn this.
The grounds are just beautiful...
Oh yes, housekeeping, well our staff on our floor, they were AWESOME too. They were all too helpful in making sure everything was just perfect.
We seriously had no issues with our stay.

We were a party of four and stayed at the westin maui for 6 nights in June. All in all we had a great time, the facilities of the hotel were great, especially the fantastic outdoor pool area, and the staff was really friendly and helpful. We were up-graded to an ocean front view room with no extra charge. On the day we checked out, having an evening flight, we had full access to all the hotel services and were given a hospitality suite to shower up before leaving.
There are a few things altough that did not meet our expectations. Even though the lobby and and all downstairs area are elegant and nicely furnitured, we cannot say the same for our rooms. The rooms need a serious renovation ! The most disappointing thing were the bathrooms as they are very 70s like. We also had problems with the bathtubh draining...
The furnitures in the room were battered and have definitely seen better times. Having experienced different westin hotels around the world, we can say that this aspect of the westin maui was quite a disappointment. We think they really need to invest some serious money in the rooms renovation/makeover and bring them to the 21st century !
Apart from that, as said before, we had a great time.
