Rated 3 out of 5 by swisswatch Nice hotel in the heart of Melbourne
Nice hotel, but on an international scale not a 5 star property. Good sized rooms with the usual great beds which Westin is famous for. But an uninspiring bathroom with very cold floors. I am wondering how many guest are able to find those hidden light switches on the inaccessible side of the side tables.
And yes, I experienced a world first after 30 years extensive travelling around the world. A 5 star hotel who locks its doors after midnight and the guest have to use their room keys to enter it through a small side entrance into a completely deserted lobby.

Rated 5 out of 5 by MichaelS51 A night in the City
From the first minute arriving on the forecourt to be met by the concierge who whisked our car away to valet parking our experience at the Melbourne Westin was one of a very warm welcome and wonderful comfort. Check in was smooth and efficient, easy access to a very pleasant king room with our bags delivered shortly thereafter. Enjoyed a bottle of champagne from the mini-bar (French of course) before heading off to the theatre for the evening. Slept like logs on our return with a relaxing sleep in followed by an expansive and enjoyable buffet breakfast in the Allegro Restaurant before heading off to explore the City. Check out was equally smooth as our car was waiting for us in the driveway. Wonderful caring staff all with a smile and an interest in our night in the city.

Rated 5 out of 5 by AMDH Always a pleasure
Once again, The Westin Melbourne met my expectations... A quick spur of the moment Easter break holiday trip to the east coast was capped off with another fantastic stay.
As SPG Platinum guests, we took advantage of late check out - a great little perk that allowed us to sleep in and really just chill through the day, instead of rushing here and there doing last minute things. We opted not for the breakfast, only because we're not up early enough!! The only down side, is I've never been offered room upgrades! Not that a standard room is anything to scoff at, it's by all means still a superb room - but experiencing a suite, would just add to that specialness!
The Westin and its staff are aways a great pleasure to deal with when I'm in town. Thank you.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Robbie55 Nice hotel needing some food menu updates.
I always enjoy staying at the Melbourne Westin. It provides very comfortable accommodation in the best possible central city location.
The food offering, both in-room and in the restaurant and lobby bar, has not changed for some time and is in need of an update. As an example, the 'super foods' menu is not particularly healthy.
I feel that the atmosphere in the Allegro restaurant is too bland and down-market for a hotel of Westin standard; it really is due for a makeover. As a result, I almost never eat in there.
I am happy to stay in the hotel, but it is time for an upgrade in the food area, in my opinion.

Rated 2 out of 5 by DON43 Favourite no more
This used to be one of my favourite hotels: it was pictured on my 2011 membership card. My experience on this particular 3-night stay was memorable from a negative point of view. The room assigned on arrival was 210 which was on the lowest level where there are rooms. This is not acceptable for a Platinum guest. This was changed to 721 after some discussion. I fully realised that given the small number of suites, one was not available for our stay. There is no lounge in this hotel, nor a club floor. The first evening, my wife had a bath. The body lotion had a clear top portion but she used it. On application, it smelled of sour milk so she had to take a shower and then use our own body lotion. There were problems with shower and drain in one sink: these problems were rectified the next day. The first morning for breakfast we asked for a table in a particular section but were told that they were unavailable (reserved?). One of these tables remained unoccupied the entire time we were in the restaurant. After mentioning this to Guest Services, we got an apology note for the "misunderstanding". I am not sure we misunderstood anything, we were just not given our table of choice. The next morning, a restaurant supervisor said that they would talk later about the misunderstanding. They did not follow up that morning or the following morning although they were in the restaurant both times. On the second morning we suffered from lack of attention and were not offered top-ups on our coffees. This is not the service one expects from a hotel that we were told was a Westin "boutique" hotel. My wife was also surprised that there was no turn-down service.

Extremely happy - as always.
One disappointment being, the discount given
in resturant to starwood members. We have
never been advised that in order to get it,
we must produce our card. Hoping this matter
has been rectified as per our conversation

Rated 5 out of 5 by RTowers A luxurious short break for Melbournians
Stayed two nights over the Easter break with my family and was given a regular room at the SPG floor. The room is quite spacious and the three of us, 2 adults and one child, did not feel crowded. The room was overlooking busy Swanston Street but the sound of the trams were faint and barely noticeable. The bathroom is so far the biggest I have seen, it even echoes in there. We enjoyed the indoor pool but the gym was quite small, and the mirrors to make it look bigger actually made it look cramp and uninviting. Had Easter lunch at Allegro restaurant. Food was wonderful but we could barely hear the jazz musicians playing ( a pity). Our stay was so comfortable that we couldn't be bothered to go out so we had a nice dinner at the Lobby Lounge. We will stay again!

Rated 5 out of 5 by fussy1 This hotel has great features
We loved staying at the Westin. The room was roomy, the staff attentive, great breaky and the location was very central. The only fault we had were the pillows. The large ones were too high and the smaller ones were too lumpy. Although the mattresses were amazing. Will still definitely stay again.

Rated 4 out of 5 by DDSydney Very good first stay at Westin Melbourne
Westin Melbourne is a superbly located hotel with excellent amenities and top notch customer service. The staff attended to every request we had - from early check in to fixing a non-working TV - quickly and with a smile. The only gripe I have is the basin and shower controls - I didn't realise anyone was still using dual control taps rather than mixers. Also, my wife didn't like her pillow but I liked mine so we'll call it even.

What a fantastic hotel! I stayed for 3 nights with my 14 year old daughter in a deluxe room and we loved everything about the hotel. The staff were so helpful and friendly. The rooms were spacious, and the beds were so comfortable. Loved the bathroom, especially the large overhead shower.
The location was superb for our daily shopping expedition, afternoon coffee and cakes, and for eating out at night.
We can't wait to book our next weekend in Melbourne and we will definitely stay at the Westin.

As a Gold SPG member, room was upgraded however only after asking for it. (I had assumed that it would be automatic without asking provided there is room available).
Breakfast was not good. Unfortunate.

Rated 3 out of 5 by robertfm Good, but ....
4 minor comments:
1. Checked in around 10pm and had to wait in a queue for 15mins as there was only one staff member checking guests in;
2. My employer had provided payment details, but this was not recognised when I went to check out and required unnecessary follow up;
3. I had paid for refreshments in cash upon checkout, but the amount was left on the bill and paid for (again) by my employer
4. My room was above the entrance where noisy revellers woke me up at 2am as they exited the hotel

Rated 3 out of 5 by Lorrie123 wifi & room comforts
I was extremely shocked to find that there was a charge for Wifi to the room. In the last 12 months I have traveled to USA, Mexico, UK & France, all hotels i stayed at provided free wifi to the room. In 2014 it is ridiculous that at hotel of this caliber to have an additional charge for wifi.
Furtermore i've always held the Westin in high regard for the superior quality of bedding, linen, towels etc. With my most recent stay I found the pillows to be of poor quality, the towels felt worn and no longer fluffy and the quality of tissues and toilet paper was extremely poor. Since my last visit at the Westin, 12 months ago, i have to say that i left feeling very disappointed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Paul10047 A favourite hotel in Melbourne
I really like the Westin. Friendly staff, nicely furnished rooms, very stylish public areas. It is also in a very convenient location. The free wi fi in the reception area is nice but it really should be available throughout the hotel. Wi fi connectivity is just so standard now, why not simply factor it in to the room rate? Those wireless signals can't be too expensive! All that said, this remains a favourite hotel in Melbourne and is a very nice place to stay.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Barnsey38 Heavenly bed, not so "heavenly"
The bed in my room this time (208) was obviously well-worn. Lying on either side resulted in rolling into the collapsed middle of each mattress, with a peak in the middle where the two mattresses butt up against each other. Overall it was extremely hard due to its collapsed nature, and as I was in-house for two nights resulted in very little sleep. Not happy.

The hotel is in a great spot.valet parking was taken care of,the staff at the reception were out standing ,had a coffee just after we checked in and yes the coffee was the best coffee I have had for some time .we went shopping as we were early.when we got back to the hotel our room was ready and it was a delight.breakfast next morning met our expectations and the coffee lattes were 10/10.The check was seamless as was the
pickup of car.I am all about the feeling.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Bobby1981 Good night stay
Was in Melbourne for a birthday and stayed at the Westin for 2 nights over a weekend in July 2014.
Not quite a 5 star hotel, but it is perfectly acceptable reasonably priced 4 star hotel in a great location.
Addition of some thinner pillows in the room would have been a good touch as all of the pillows were very high!

Rated 3 out of 5 by Jonnyrock This Hotel needs to Improve
1) The power point next to the toilet/basin was faulty.
2) The newspaper was not delivered for 2 out of 3 days.
3) Allegro said not necessary to show SPG card, as would be adjusted at checkout. At checkout they claim it must be done by facility at time of dining. No adjustment was made at checkout.
4) Quality of food at breakfast was below standard one would expect from the hotel.
5) Room not made up on return at 3.30pm.

Rated 1 out of 5 by frequenttraveller90000 Great Hotel, Poor Staff
This hotel is an amazing property with excellent facilities. The building is magnificent and the rooms are quite stunning with fantastic facilities. The location is one of the best in Melbourne.
Unfortunately I had a very poor experience with staff at the front desk on my arrival which tarnished my entire stay.
I hope that this is an isolated incident and I perhaps will try this property again.

Rated 5 out of 5 Best Starwood Property in Australia
I travel extensively throughout Australia and have had the opportunity to stay at every Starwood property in an Australian capitol city. The Westin Melbourne by far is the best. The service and recognition I receive as a SPG member beats all of the other Starwood properties in Australia hands down. Many thanks to the staff at the Westin Melbourne for providing another memorable stay.

Rated 5 out of 5 by KEWgirl The hotel is a great place to catch up with friends
It was a girls weekend away to celebrate my birthday. There were 9 of us that stayed there from other parts of the world. The hotel ticked all the boxes - close to shopping, great eateries, art galleries, public transport, business centre, swimming pool and spa, friendly staff and most helpful. We loved the convenience and the cafes next door. Loved every single minute of our visit.
