Rated 3 out of 5 by Disappointing service I stayed at the Westin Columbus on a near-weekly basis for about 7 months while I was doing business in Columbus (May to December 2012). The basic facilities are fine: rooms are a bit small and could use some updating, but the bed, shower, etc., are generally of the typical Westin quality. What wasn't of the typical Westin quality, however, was the service. For the most part, I’d describe the service as “spotty” – most of the issues I encountered were not a big deal on their own, but together contributed to a lower quality experience. However, over the last month or so that I stayed there, the service level seemed to drop markedly, such that a day could barely go by without my having to deal with some sort of issue. Rated 5 out of 5 by Grand Experience at Historic Hotel We booked a room at this beautiful historic hotel because we wanted to attend the Columbus Jazz Orchestra's performance in the connecting Great Southern Theater. After the performance some of the musicians came into the lobby of the Westin and continued to play music for the enjoyment of many people who relaxed in the spacious and gorgeous lobby and had a drink from the quaint hotel bar. We had a great night's sleep due to a plush, comfortable bed and very quiet surroundings. The staff was attentive from the valets to the servers in the restaurant. The hotel was built in the late 1800's, but the accommodations are still top notch 100 + years later. I especially liked the refreshing cucumber and lemon water offererd in the lobby. April 15, 2013
Rated 2 out of 5 by Bathroom not good 1. Toilet needed to be flushed four times to get everything down the drain. 2. Shower door did not close, which we found out in the morning, and then it came off of the track and rested at a diagonal when we tried pulling the back shower door. Water got all over the floor as we showered. 3. Called front desk afternoon of arrival to say TV had a loud HUMMMM coming from it and even let her hear it as I spoke. She said someone would come which never happened. Fortunately, we were able to eventually get it to stop by playing around with the controls. When checking out, I told the desk clerk and he said that he would let the custodian know. He should have apologized for the inconvenience and offered a discounted price on my room rate. Rated 4 out of 5 by The staff was extremely helpful While visiting the Westin for a professional conference, I was impressed by the friendliness of the staff. I was greeted at the valet with a smile nd saw one on the face of every staff member through my stay. While small, I was working in the lobby on the computer and was offered a beverage. It was unexpected and very welcomed. April 4, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Front desk staff needs basic concierge training Great warmth, friendly reception. But when checking if local pizzaria was open they called and found out it was open till 230 am. Unfortunately when I walked there the dining room was closed, only the takeaway open. So had to wait 15 min in the cold, then walked back 10 min so pizza was no longer steaming hot. Lesson: ALL staff, not just those on concierge desk, should be taught to automatically ask to make a reservation. This will both get the guests to the front of the line, and more important, avoid my cold pizza experience. Otherwise great stay. June 5, 2012
Rated 2 out of 5 by Average hotel, but better options available This hotel is in a beautiful building in downtown Columbus. For an event such as a wedding, this would be great. Unfortunately, it does not measure up as a hotel. My room was small and seemed to have an issue with an occasional sewage backup smell from the shower drain. The doors are thin, so you get the pleasure of hearing every conversation that walks by. Since it is an old building, the plumbing is noisy. I had an interior room that had a view of the center atrium roof... so barely had any sunlight during my stay. In addition, there is no club lounge available. Overall, this Westin just does not measure up and there are better options available in the area. I will say that the "Heavenly Bed" lived up to its name... one of the best hotel beds I've stayed in! Rated 2 out of 5 by smoky room There had obviously been a smoker as our room smelled horrible. we tried to spray it with a spray housekeeping had but it is impossible to rid drapery and carpeting of the odor. We did not ask to be moved as we wanted to be close to our daughter to help her with her baby and it had been a struggle to get the rooms close together even though we had requested this early on. Our refrigerator never cooled. We did not talk to desk personnel about our issues as there was always a back log of people trying to get help. Slow at desk! Valet parking did prove to be difficult during busy times. We did like the reception area for the wedding we attended and staff was very professional except many times our 1/2 to full glasses were removed while we were still drinking. November 4, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Well run, great service, quiet night. When we made our reservations and realized that the NCAA womens basketball & the cheer leader competition was on the same week end we were worried that we would never get any sleep. Well we were wrong. The hotel was clean, well maintained and had two nights of great sleep. The beds were comfortable. We were close enough to downtown for the hockey game we came to attend and to venture out into German town & the Cosi museum. We would recommend the Westin and will reserve again when we come into town for another Blue Jacket game. March 25, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Wonderful service during race weekend My mom and I recently stayed at the Westin Columbus for the Columbus Marathon weekend, and we could not have been more pleased with the service we received. The restaurant provided a special menu for runners and opened early to provide breakfast for us before the race. The staff was very accommodating and the beds were extremely comfortable (as I've come to expect from Westin!) We had a wonderful time staying in this charming historic hotel and will not hesitate to use you again in the future! Thanks for a fantastic weekend. October 24, 2012
Rated 2 out of 5 by Westin Columbus - Needs Improvement All I can say is Staff Staff Staff - The Westin Columbus needs to be equipped with more professional well trained staff than hiring someone straight out of college or high school. From the Check-in to Check-out I didn't feel I was staying a Westin. The associates were having hard time explaining SPG related questions. I had ordered food at the restaurant downstairs and that arrived 45 mins late. My bonus were never credited to my account. The staff need to take more personal responsibility. Will not be staying there again. April 16, 2013
Rated 3 out of 5 by Set your Expectations Low, its Columbus not San Francisco Was looking forward to a good nights sleep, had a huge meeting next day. $9.95/day fee for WIFI (SPG member here) Lighting in room wasn't great for work, bed had polyester bland comforter cover. Also, no key to mini bar and no mini bar price list. Positives: great meal in bar and good meal in restaurant in the morning. Loved the cucumber water in the lobby. I was a little cranky from my flights when I arrived, will set my expectations lower before staying here again. FYI this is located in CBD very quiet on a Monday night. February 22, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great staff My wife and I celebrated our wedding anniversary with an overnight stay. The staff went out of their to make a very nice room upgrade prior to checkin which we did not expect. We were floored when we returned to our room after dinner to find a bottle of champagne on ice, chocolate-covered strawberries and a box of chocolates in our room. The level of personal attention by the staff far exceeded that of any hotel stay we have ever had. We will definitely return to the Westin Columbus for our next special event. March 31, 2013
Rated 3 out of 5 by Disappointing room The room was below the standard that I expect from a Westin hotel. As a historic building, I realize the room might be small, but it was poorly fitted out and decorated. The furnishings were unattractive, a surge protector with outlets was glued to a bedside table where it was no use, and too far from the desk (which had no outlets), the lighting was poor, and the toilet paper holder was tucked under the sink in an awkward location. The shower enclosure was rusted and clearly needed to be replaced. October 24, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great weekend We decided to stay at the Westin when we went to see the opera. The hotel and staff were amazing. I don't have any complaints. Actually, when we returned from the opera we were met with a fantastic surprise which was a world class jazz band having a free jam session in the lobby. Best stay ever. March 17, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Gorgeous Hotel, Impeccable Service I have stayed at many Westins and Starwood Brands. I have to say that none of them have as much charm as the Westin Columbus. The grand ballroom is absolutely beautiful and the guest rooms are incredibly charming. The rooms are large with high ceilings and crown molding, while the lobby is gorgeous, decorated with marble and original fixtures. The neighborhood wasn't as ideal as I thought, but it is very close to the Bicentennial Park and some up and coming restaurants. Great experience overall. August 16, 2013
Rated 3 out of 5 by Somewhat disapointed I had stayed at this hotel before and was very pleased. This time however I was disappointed. At check in I was given a key for the in room snacks and drinks but there were non. The key could not be used for anything. On one evening when I got back to my room in the evening and turned on the TV, I got audio and no picture. It seemed to correct itself because in the morning the TV worked fine. One of the mornings there was barely enough hot water to take a shower. Not a very good experience. March 13, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Overall a nice hotel We stayed at the hotel because our Apt were out of power... I'm a SPG member and used some points to redeem a free night. At first we were assigned a room that was very small and dark. I went down to the lobby and ask for a better room. And we were found a larger room, fortunately. It would have been better if we were assigned a nice room at first though. Overall the hotel met my expectation, and the food at the bar was very good, too. And the best thing for us was this Westin allowed pets. July 5, 2012
Rated 2 out of 5 by Recent Visit To Westin Columbus Expectations were high in lieu of all the "luxury" advertising. Arrived to find the only parking option was via valet for $22 ridiculous dollars for one night. It was myself and a guest. We each had to pay $22. The parking lot (not garage) was directly behind the hotel, so no need even for valet. Just another way to make money. The following morning the other party in my room attempted to have their car brought around via valet so they could go to work. This was 5:30 am, so it was not busy yet it took 20 minutes to pull a car around that was sitting directly behind the hotel. Needless to say they were late to work with NO apology and an excuse of the 'cars being stacked up'. If you're going to pretend to be a luxury hotel then you better have the service to meet the price. BTW - room was microscopic! October 28, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Close to the events we attended this weekend I wanted to stay at the Great Southern -Westin Hotel as it is the only historic hotel in Columbus. We attended the Green Gala at COSI and I attended a National Geographic Travelers magazine Photography seminar at the Columbus Museum of Art the next day. Both location were very close to the hotel. The staff meet our every needs, Breakfast was very good especially the breakfast bread pudding. The room we had was of the old hotel manner and would be considered small compared to todays hotels but it was comfortable. The bed could have been a little firmer to my liking. I thought the rate and the package we had was very good value. We will definitely stay there in the future. 64 years ago my grand parents stayed at the hotel and it was nice being at the hotel they used to stay at when they came to Columbus. November 4, 2013
Rated 3 out of 5 by Westin Indulge Package Letdown I purchased a Westin Indulge Package for my stay at the Westin Columbus. Per both the package description online and the confirmation email that I received, I expected the following: > Sparkling Wine & Strawberries >Breakfast in Your Heavenly Bed® Instead, I received: > Red Wine & Strawberries > A complimentary breakfast in the hotel restaurant, The High Street Grill. The Red Wine wasn't an awful replacement, but having to get dressed to go downstairs to eat was disappointing. March 4, 2013
Rated 1 out of 5 by The room was awful The room was small but clean. The bathtub drained slow, so we were in ankle deep water while showering, the heating/AC system didn't work the room was between 75-81 degrees all night even with the thremostat set a 60 degrees on AC.. The radio/alarm clock died and the movie we ordered never worked. We won't be staying at anymore Westin Hotel properties. The bartender at the lounge was very slow serving and getting us our bill, even with me going up to the bar to get her attention. February 25, 2013
Rated 1 out of 5 by horrible experience steyed at your hotel 3 nights 8/1 to 8/4 room 667. beathroom floors are marble and extremely slippery when wet, also no tub , shower only . lighting in bathrooms and bedroom area extremely poor. desk convienience outlets were on the baseboard under the desk. Having recently had my knees replaced, they were impossible to get to. Opted not to have linens exchanged daily. Did not realize that this meant no maid service at all. (no towels, beds were not made, trash wan't picked up). Front desk told us that only valet parking was available at $22.00 per night. Never told us that there was self parking in the rear lot. This experience was the only bad part of an enjoyable weekend in Columbus for our son's wedding. I will continue to stay at Starwood hotels again, but I doubt that I would ever stay at another Westin August 11, 2013
Rated 1 out of 5 by Tired; don't eat breakfast here. Sorely in need of updating. Housekeeping - room service items in cooridor from check-in until checkout the next day. Breakfast - stale bakery items, out of plates at buffet, only two tables available because all others were in need of clearing - which took far too long. The table next to mine, where we were trying to conduct a breakfast meeting, went uncleared for an hour and twenty minutes. No sense of expediency of urgency anywhere. Will return only as a last resort. August 16, 2013
Rated 2 out of 5 by After the lobby..... It's all downhill ! An older building so you anticipate smaller rooms and facilities. In addition to being small however, the rooms at this hotel are poorly designed and "tired". The HVAC system could awaken the dead and if you turn yours off completely, you may still enjoy the hum from the adjoining rooms. Staff was not particularly friendly or well trained. Food was awful. Location is fairly convenient but there is no way I would stay at this hotel again. October 7, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by CLASSIC AND BEAUTIFUL HOTEL I loved my stay here. The hotel is CLASSIC and has the total HISTORIC look. If you just take a walk around the inside AND outside of the hotel then you will learn to appreciate its true beauty. But hey non-members, preferred , golds and plats if you just sit locked up in your rooms then you will miss out on this beauty. My room was great and if in Columbus again then I will not hesitate to choose this property again. In my book it is a LUXURY COLLECTION HOTEL. March 23, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Elegant hotel The hotel has a spacious and pretty lobby and the rooms are modern and clean. The ballroom was beautiful. It felt very upscale, especially for the rate. We were disappointed, however, that our room was not ready at the designated check-in time and that we had to wait almost 90 minutes for our room. Although the staff could see us waiting in the lobby, it wasn't until we repeatedly returned to the check-in desk inquiring about our room that we finally got one . It was as if we were invisible. Having just 45 minutes to get ready for a wedding didn't seem adequate and no one seemed very apologetic about it. Instead we received excuses about guests not checking out in time. A room should be available at the time of check-in. There were other guests waiting as well. Disappointing. But the room was very pretty when we finally got in. June 24, 2013
Rated 3 out of 5 by OK Hotel The public spaces of the hotel are great and the staff was very attentive to its guests. The rooms were another story, the need some upgrades to the rooms themselves and the HVAC definitely needs improvement (loud, made clunky noise when turning on and off) The refrigerator in the room did not work but the front desk called after i had settled in to see if the room was ok and promptly sent up another refrigerator which the set in the room. Rated 5 out of 5 by very frienly The service lady at the desk was very informative and helpful and pleasant to talk to. We were very happy with the rooms we had. but were disappointed when we got our cars. They were covered with a fine misty dirt that had to be cleaned off before i could drive. I could barely see out passanger window. I called the desk to notify them when we got home and the lady refunded by parking money but your hotel needs to do something to avoid this August 7, 2012
Rated 3 out of 5 by A Nice Property, but The staff was very accommodating, a situation was cleared up well by the night manager when I checked in. The one thing that really needs some improvement is the breakfast area. The area is small, cramped and seemingly makeshift. Handwritten signs and because if the area the food was not nicely laid out. I did not get great service as well by the wait staff. This could be improved as I believe the Westin brand has much higher standards. July 30, 2013
Rated 2 out of 5 by In need of renovations This old hotel looks nice from the outside and lobby however, the hallways smelled musty and the room reaked of cigarettes even though it was a non-smoking room. Additionally, the room I received was overlooking mechanicals and a vacant room whose window was stuffed with pillows. I am a Starwood Preferred Planer member and would have thought I would have received a better room. Also, The shower fixtures were falling off the shower wall. March 25, 2013
