Rated 4 out of 5 fair enough Place was great. Staff weren't 110% friendly as you experience from other top notch hotels, but I'd say 90% friendly. Fair enough. Rooms were clean, everything was within reach in the facility, although the hotel was a bit far from downtown Palm Springs ($30 cab ride), lots of kids at the pool which was open til 10pm (the outdoor bar closed at 5pm though), overall it was a pleasant trip. The only disappointment I had was the kids club (babysitting service onsite). We tried to use the kids club so that I and my wife can have a romantic anniversary dinner. First of all, it took some time to make a reservation (no one answered the phone, and I later learned that I can make a reservation through the staff at the main pool). The staff at the pool was very friendly and told me she would take care of the reservation. However, when I took my kid to the kids club, the door was locked. I had to ask a hotel staff to find out what's going on. After waiting in the 105F heat for 20 min, a young lady showed up and opened the door. No apologies. Instead, she had the "i have to be stuck here because of this one kid?" look all over her face (my kid happened to be the only one that evening), so we ended up taking my kid to dinner with us. Rated 4 out of 5 by 4-Day Getaway We took a 4-day Explorer Package offered through our vacation ownership and had a wonderful time. The restaurant at the hotel has REALLY stepped up its game. The service was great and the dinner food and wine were actually reasonably priced for a hotel restaurant. My husband and I shared our plates and the staff was kind enough to split our meals for us without making us feel like we were asking too much! The resort golf course was in beautiful shape and the greens were perfectly manicured. Great job! The resort itself could use some sprucing up. It is showing its age. There were some flaws and signs of wear in our room. Torn carpet, chipped furniture and bathroom fixtures. Some of the common areas could use upgrading and maintenance. Also, the spa area could use some upgrading. The robes and amenities are showing their age. The water fountain with the fruit enhancements in the women's locker room was pretty horrible in appearance and I would not drink from it. The whirlpool area could use some new cushions on the chairs-they have been the same for years! We have been vacation owners for almost 10 years at this resort and we enjoy it every time we come out to the desert. Please keep up the great work in the main restaurant! You are doing wonderful things there. My suggestions for improvement would be the things listed above. Please do not let this beautiful place go downhill. I am proud to be an owner here and would hate to see my investment diminish. February 27, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Good property and amenities Check-in/-out: After a bit of a wait, check-in was reasonably quick and the agent explained SPG Platinum amenities clearly. One pretty significant service glitch here: while I was aware of the resort fee from prior experience and my confirmation, the agent made no mention of it, and did not appear on my final folio. I received a post-stay bill for it, however. SPG Platinum receives a modest discount. The property and grounds are quite spread out, which give it a less-crowded feel. There are wide jogging/walking paths throughout the property and the adjoining resort, though do watch out for the golf carts on those. Due to the configuration of the buildings, self-parking near many rooms is very limited; we usually had a 5 or so minute walk from parking to our room when returning in the evenings. We didn't find that a problem, but some may. We ate at the restaurant only for breakfast, which was a good buffet offering. Service staffing seemed somewhat lean at breakfast, particularly when the restaurant was full on the weekend: we waited a few minutes to be greeted, plates to be cleared, etc. Standard rooms are of a good size, with our king room also having a full-sized sofa and large coffee table/ottoman; the bathroom is large as well. The desk was quite large, and had ample electrical outlets nearby. The room also had a mini-fridge (empty, in addition to the requisite mini-bar). All rooms appear to have patios or balconies with table and chairs: most have walls between rooms or are staggered to afford privacy. Views vary by room category; I noticed several patios did face the parking lots or were walled-in, which I guess were the "limited view" rooms. Wifi in the room was suitable for our basic usage. Other amenities: a game room on site with air hockey, foosball, some arcade-style games; tennis center (we had a very good lesson with the tennis pro); and "market" with a coffee bar. Pools were fairly crowded, but we never had difficulty getting chairs or an umbrella. April 5, 2014
Rated 2 out of 5 by Major improvements needed The resort grounds are really beautiful so I bet this was a great place many years ago. As others have mentioned, the rooms are out of date. When I first arrived, I pulled back the covers on my bed to find stains on both the top sheet and fitted sheet. The cleaning ladies showed up about 30 minutes later only to find the sheets they were going to use to replace mine were stained as well. The third try was the charm. There were some nasty things on the rug that sort of looked like raisins so I stuck washcloths over each of them so I wouldn't step on them. I didn't have time to call the cleaning crew at the time. When I returned, I went in the bathroom to wash my face and when I picked up the washcloth from the sink, it had that nasty thing that was on the floor on it. They actually picked the washcloths up from the rug and put them on my sink to use. That is just nasty. I asked for a vegan lunch during a conference I was attending there and they served me steamed vegetables. I would have expected more from a resort. When I spoke to the catering manager, she was very receptive and they worked to find something suitable for me for dinner. It still wasn't anything special. They also sent fresh fruit to my room with a very nice note, which I appreciated. Given the experience, I don't think I'd stay here again. October 14, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Westin Mission Hills and Pinzimini Made Our Day! This place deserves a 5 star. I don't know why folks are giving it lower ratings. During the recent Thaksgiving break, we visited Palm Springs and stayed at Westin Mission Hills. We ate breakfast and dinner at Pinzimini. Our experience was amazing. Entire staff of Pinzimini were very courteous. The food was very delicious too. We were concerned that they didn't have any vegetarian entree items on the menu for dinner. It was a special dinner since two of us in the party had our birthdays (my self and my friend's wife) and all four of us were vegetarians. I approached the host and she introduced me to the chef (Shawn). He assured that he will prepare a multi -course vegetarian Italian dinner for us. He in deed kept his promise. He went out of his way to prepare the best Italian dinners we ever had in the continental US! Our server Ryan was extremely friendly and very helpful. Both Westin and Pinzimini staff made my birthday very special. I also noticed that Westin mission hills and Pinzimini staff were very accommodating with babies and kids. It looked like everyone was having a good time. I certainly recommend this restaurant and hotel to anyone and especially to ones with kids. Here is what we ate and liked very much. Breakfast: Orange granola pancake (YUM!!), Oatmeal and Blueberry protein shake. Dinner: Antipasti Misto, Cured Olives, Asparagus and special bruschetta, Minestrone soup, Fried Zucchini, Pasta with creamy pesto and steamed fresh vegetables, Cappuccino Tiramisu and plum cake for dessert! The portions were just right for us and price was comparable to similar high-end restaurants. We would definitely go back here! December 1, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great Place for a Weekend Getaway We live in Los Angeles and visited the hotel on the last leg of a circular christmas break road-trip through Las Vegas, Sedona/Grand Canyon, Palm Springs and back home. Though tourism was a large part of our trip we felt that this hotel was truly the most comfortable and family oriented of the places we stayed on our trip. The rooms are large and well outfitted and appear recently updated, though they left the cottage cheese ceilings, and the rooms have nice amenities as part of a resort fee like free coffee and internet that were not available in our Las Vegas room that charged an offensive $5 for self made coffee in the room. Otherwise, room service and pool service prices were also reasonable. Because I am a Starwood Gold member, we were immediately upgraded to a pool view room which meant we could walk from our room balcony to the pool and watch our kids swim from the room if we so desired. The hotel is also dog friendly which made us wish we had our dog with us who would have loved chasing the ducks who are all over the premises. (In fact, I think the highlight of our trip was when one of the ducks decided that it was having such a good time at the hotel that it jumped in the pool for a swim until the hotel guests' laughter scared it away. The grounds are large and if you are not in the best spot, its a bit like a TIme Share, which is a part of the resort next door, where you have to work and walk to use the amenities but not too bad. However, in sum, if your looking for a place to sit and relax and enjoy comfortable weather by the pool, this is the spot. Its a great place for a weekend retreat and we will definitely come again or like to come again. January 3, 2012
Rated 3 out of 5 by I was expecting little more... We (with our kids) just came back from our long trip all over the California and my wife and I decided to stop by this place again during our trip to spend some time (two nights) with our kids. Since it was a resort and my family decided to spend the whole time at the resort so we decided to dine at the restaurant. My wife and I were little disappointed with over all experience at the restaurant becuase of food quality, taste and composition of the dish were little on the low side (chicken was way over cooked, you can see the burnt skin, my Salmon was just too dried and wish that kids had a better menu to chose from...) After a good slice of Mousee cake we wanted a coffee but they said both espresso machines were broken and told just walk over to the gift store (middle of our family dinner) or order it from the Starbucks near by resort gift shop (I was thinking how come they can't use their Starbucks represso machine to make coffee? and I had to walk over to the store to get it? I didn't mind getting it for myself but is it necessary that resort/restaurant customers need to hear that their machines are broken? (But one thing really made a difference was our very nice waiter# At the sametime were thinking that we should of made a reservation at some other restaurant at Palm Springs for better dining experience instead of the resort restaurant... Our Room: Very clean and excellent #but my wife jumped and scremed when we saw some pest outside of our door, at the same time I understand that big property like that its hard to keep out all pest out of the property) But over all our family will come back to this place, its a great place to bond with family or as a couple... Rated 1 out of 5 This hotel was very disappointing for a Westin We checked in late (11 p.m.). The lobby was empty with no one at the check in counter. We stood there for 10 minutes of saying "hello", "excuse me" with no response from the back room. Finally, a gentleman came out and helped us with check in. It was surprising that he never apologized for keeping us waiting. It was hard to find parking and had to walk quite a ways to our room carrying our luggage. The room was nice but needed updating (cottage cheese ceilings). Of course, the bed was "heavenly." We had a ground floor room and had "extremely" noisy and active people above us. From early mornings and late nights. We finally made contact with them trying to figure out why it was so noisy - they had an active 9 year old running back and forth with their dog, jumping on the bed and playing ball. Not sure if the room acoustics had been better, it would have helped. We hardly slept. We went to the main pool but could not find two lounge chairs. It was extremely crowded. We then were told that we could try the smaller pool so we went there. Same problem. We went back to the main pool to try again and ended up with two chairs in the walk way. We asked for water from the server that came by but she never returned with our water. Upon check out, we expressed our specific disappointment but was only asked if we had called the front desk to report the noise level. We did not so I guess that was our fault. Nevertheless, it just all seemed a little disappointing that the lady did not seem concerned that we were not "happy customers." We love the Westin. We are time share owners of two of their properties. We occasionally, when we don't have our children with us, would like to stay at the hotel. Not sure if we had high expectations for the Westin or not but it certainly did not meet any expectations of a high end resort. July 21, 2012
Rated 2 out of 5 by FIX your internet service and Telephones! As a SPG member I was appalled by the service I received from your hotel. I get in late Monday night to find my reservation set for only three days instead five for the ATLAs conference. I had arrived a day early and was looking to check out a day later. The lady at the counter told me there where rooms available and they could accommodate the extra 2 days. She even wanted to go as far as to see if they could give me the conference rates for the 2 extra nights which I greatly appreciated. They were to call me that evening and set me up for a 5 night stay. The next day, after receiving no call, I check on my reservation again. I was still in for 3 nights and not 5. They told me their were no rooms available and I would need to find another hotel. After conversing back and forth regarding the conversation I had the night before with them having no problem accommodating me for 5 nights with no resolution; I asked “what if I decided to staying in my room for the 5 days even though the reservation was set for 3?” They told me they would have security remove me from the premises. I didn’t care about getting the conference price the night before. And I would look else where for a room if they had told me the night before they could not accommodate me. Put when you tell me I can stay 5 nights, then the next morning tell me I can’t and that you would remove me from the premises is not right. To top if off they had me checking out Wednesday even though I had written confirmation checking out Thursday! I am one of the biggest sponsor at this conference and looking to spend a lot of money on your restaurants and golf facilities, and you treat me like this… Give me a break. Needless to say I went to the conference people to explain my predicament, and never heard a word back from the hotel. In fact I had to go back to the conference people to find out if I could stay that Thursday and Friday. And fix your internet! Having No internet or cell phone service for the business travel is absurd. No one in your staff knew what to do about it, or had a plan B to fix the problem to accommodate the business traveler. The business office internet was down. Your hotel phones were not working. And there was not cell phone anywhere in your buildings. I was told to go out to the parking lot to make a phone call. Give me a break. You are 4 start hotel charging $200+ a night with no working phone, internet or cell phone service. I will never recommend your hotel to any large conference group ever again. And Clean your fitnes center and replace the work out mats more frequently. they were very dirty. October 29, 2012
