Rated 2 out of 5 by docwilly This hotel needs improvement.
1. Bed mattress had very poor support.
2. The facial tissues are very scratchy -- spend a few cents more and buy a good product!
3. The toilet paper was very scratchy -- see above.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Brian Nice hotel, need better wifi
Room was nice, view of the bay was great. Wifi quality was awful. I got the enhanced bandwidth package, and I still could not keep a VoIP call going. Just generally bad reception.

Great experience. The bed was excessively to soft. A bed that was firm would have been great. Did not sleep well at all. The wife had same issue.

Rated 4 out of 5 by TheBeav27 Stay at the Westin Gaslamp but watch the prices
Everyone was helpful and great. However, some of the prices were ludicrous: coffee and tea for $5 each and parking for $36 was outrageous.

Love the remodel with living plant wall in the lobby and the Ingredients snack bar. We felt welcome from the moment we walked in. The receptionist at the SPG desk was able to give us an upgrade and free internet. I greatly appreciate the internet as would otherwise go to the Starbucks next door. (I do not think such a high caliber hotel chain should be charging for a service that is free at much lower quality hotels. This is just something that peeves me - so please forgive the rant!)
Because.......we love this hotel and will return again and again! Our concierge, Julianne, was very helpful recommending and reserving restaurants for us. We were pleased with both of her choices.
The lending program with New Balance is wonderful as do not have to pack exercise clothing & shoes.
The room was terrific - everything new. Soothing colors, wonderful backlit mirror and raintype showerhead. Blackout curtains, lots of power outlets at the desk for electronics. I like that the refrigerator is left empty so that I may fill it with supplies of my own choosing from the deli downstairs. I do wish the glasses in the rooms were glass rather than plastic.
Selena at the deli/coffee bar in the lobby makes a delicious latte. Nice selection of fruits and snacks.
Location could not be better - so many restaurants in Gaslamp district and bus stop to Balboa park right out front. Easy walk from the train station.

Rated 3 out of 5 by lifeguard1 not great this time.
We have stayed at Westins before and had excellent service, however on this occasion we had to fight for everything that we had asked for. We got a good rate, but right after we booked it, in the AAA magazine for the same rate, breakfast was included. When we inquired about it, you would of thought we were criminals for asking about it. After much going back and forth they decided to allow us to do it, but with much disdain. That put a sour taste in our stay. The Spa by the pool was not working correctly as it bubbled over many times and had to continually start to get it to work. The walls between the rooms are paper thin, as many guests that were on our floor were partying all night, we were able to fall back asleep, so really not your fault. Being a SPG member, we thought we would be treated with more respect. Also, we checked in early, so we would not have any issues with our room location with our friends. They told us that our rooms were not ready, but would call us when they were. We went off to do some things in the city and we were called telling us the rooms were ready, upon our return, they said we were on separate floors. When we mentioned we had requested to be on the same floor, they then said they were totally booked and could not change it. When we checked out, again we were given a hard time about the breakfast that was included and credited, but could not find it in the system, and then they had to find the person who did it, again not really believing that it was correct, again being treated like we were stealing something. We were disappointed with our stay and next time we will think twice before staying at this location again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by polarbear Friendly Staff, Great Service
We arrived at the hotel exhausted on the first night, ready to check in. When we pulled into the turnaround, the valet asked us if we would like to park at the hotel, told us the daily rate and other options available. We decided to park at the lot across the street (which was self park) for $10 the first night. The 2nd night we still parked there, unsure about the rate, which surely enough got jacked up to $28 since it was no longer a weekend. No big deal, but the key here was that the valet was very upfront about our options which I really liked.
Check in was pleasant and it was nice that the room came with a free bottle of water, though two would have been nicer since there were two of us staying! We loved the size of the room, the location, the quality and cleanliness. As always, we enjoyed the heavenly bed very much. The hotel is right next to the mall, which is really convenient. We didn't get to take advantage of that because our trip was packed, but we did walk to the bustling Gaslight/downtown area for dinner one night.
We also really like that Starwood has the "green choice" option. We don't usually use maid service during our stay and it's nice to be rewarded for that. It is really very wasteful to generate so much unnecessary laundry for the hotel! It's easy to get toiletries that we run out of by just stopping by the front desk or making a call to have it brought to our room.
The last thing I want to note is that the internet is blazing fast! It is an extra fee, which is a good thing because it limits the number of users on the network, but luckily my corporate rate included it :)
