Rated 2 out of 5 by Bad room and bad customer service I do not think that this hotel cares too much about the SPG recognition. Upon check-in, I was "upgraded" to a room with double beds, and the room was quite small. But, that was not the worst of it. The air conditioning did not work at all. Therefore, I was uncomfortably hot. I requested to be moved into another room for my second night stay, and rather than accommodate me with great service, the manager instead wanted me to have building maintenance see what was wrong, although the air conditioning have not been working for another full day (I discovered this when I returned back to the hotel after a full day of business meetings). Then, the manager wanted me to come downstairs and sign some type of form for the hotel staff to move my luggage. Instead, I asked the manager to send somebody to my room with the form so that it would be easier for me because I needed to depart to attend an evening business function. She seemed put off by my request, although she did accommodate me and move me to a different room. Still, I would expect better treatment as a platinum SPG number. There are other properties in San Francisco that would likely welcome my business more than this hotel has shown me that it would like my business. Frankly, I travel to San Francisco often on business. I know I have a reason to look at other properties. March 7, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great hotel in an excellent location I just came back from San Francisco, where I stayed at the Westin St. Francis. This hotel is beautiful, perfectly located in Union Square next to everything you need. What made this stay stand out was Michelle Huang,Guest Experience Manager at the Westin St. Francis. She emailed me ahead of time, asking me what type of room I wanted to have on this trip. I am used to excellent service from Starwood, being a Platinum member, but Michelle's personal touches really made this stand out. She upgraded me to a beautiful renovated king room in the North Tower, with a view of the city. Couldn't ask for better. Made me feel appreciated as a guest. I will return to this hotel when I go back to San Francisco. Thank you Michelle. March 18, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Stays keep getting better Platinum member, have stayed here 4 times in past 6-9'months. - this is a classic property with a mix of rooms, an older tower and a new one. One stay I was placed in a room in the historical tower where the window faced a brick wall due to the historical layout of the hotel. Not good. Other times I have had fantastic views of the city or of Union Square and loved it. Try to let the hotel know your preferences. It's almost like I stayed in a different hotel each time, just with the same lobby the experience was so different. - location: is fantastic, absolute best for the heart of downtown SF whether for work or vacation - service: uniformly excellent from the doorman, to bell hops, to maids, to front desk. Every stay. The email before my stay by guest services was a nice touch. My last stay a business meeting ran long, and front desk very accommodating for extending my late check out even further. Rated 3 out of 5 by Room needs improvement I think the best part about this hotel is its location. The room is desperately need of upgrade and modernization. March 19, 2015
Rated 2 out of 5 by House keeping was bad I checked in Westin St. Francis SFon 2/18 for 2 nights. I left room at 8:30am on 2/19, and didn't get back to my room until 6:30pm. The room was not cleaned nor touched at all. I called the housekeeping. First asked me if I hang the "no disturb" plaque which I didn't. I requested for immediately clean up. 10 minutes later, a staff called and told me the record showed my room was cleaned. I told her to come over and clean up immediately. A cleanning staff came about 15 minutes later and I went down to the lobby reported this incident to front desk "manager" and request for an explanation. The room was cleaned, but I've never heard anything back from anyone. February 24, 2013
Rated 1 out of 5 by unacceptable service Platinum ambassador member, checking in for one night using my 24 request, hotel changed my check-in dates from 4th- 5th To May to 3rd- 4th instead and then insisted that I have to pay for 2 nights instead of 1 night so basically they ignored my 24 request, spoke with the manager and didn't agree about the 24 request, since it was outside of the working hours of my ambassador I had to call the platinum concierge to get this resolved. was resolved later but very unpleasent to have this hsatle specially when you checkin at 1 AM!!. Of course no automatic room upgrade even if they have availability, I had to ask for it and show them online that they have availability. nothing in the room , not even free water. very disappointing and strange attitude, will never be back. Rated 4 out of 5 by once is understandable, but 4 times? I love this hotel, great location. But my stay was marred by having to work around the staff. I have platinum status, but was charged twice for internet access and was told I would be charged for late checkout. These charges were dismissed after I pointed it out, but I had to catch them and have them removed. At the front desk I inquired about staying another night and the best rate they quoted was $150 higher than what I could book via the Internet, so I had to reserve and book the next night through an Internet site instead of the front desk. Very annoying and inattentive service diminished an otherwise good experience. August 29, 2013
Rated 1 out of 5 by Our worst experience yet with this Hotel It was a wedding anniversary so we decided to slurge and use 16k of our points to stay at the Westin St Francis in Union Square. When we first checked in we were given a room that smelled of mold so we asked for a new room. Then when we got to the new room, the key didn't work. This whole fiasco took just under an hour to get into our room. We had the prime rib at the Oak Room and was disappointed at how much fat was on the meat. We expected better from the hotel of what we thought was higher calibur. When we went to check out the person at the desk was begining to ask us about our experience but then said "oh, your here on points". That was unprofessional and surprising. We've always liked staying here so we'll probably stay one more time. If the next visit is anything like our last visit, we'll never go back! April 14, 2014
