Rated 3 out of 5 by Bad nights sleep Even though the room was recently refurbished the beds were hard as a rock and air conditioning system was way too noisy. April 21, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by This is a good hotel The food needs a lot of improvement. They didn't even have a simple Cheeseburger or Pancakes. It was very sad. April 21, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by A fabulous hotel! I just loved everything about the Westin St. Francis: from customer service, food, location... It was above and beyond our expectation. Special Thanks to Danka at the Concierge desk who gave us great tips what to see in San Francisco and booked a dinner for us in a great restaurant. Thanks to the whole team Westin St. Francis!!! You made my stay amazing! April 21, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great location, good service I stayed one night using points and cash option. I am a Platinum member and I was upgraded to a Junior Suite using one of my certificates. It was a classic room in the old part of the hotel - high ceilings. It was very quiet and I had a good night's sleep. Friendly and quick checking. Nothing to complain about here. April 20, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Not a good experience this time. We were on a mini vacation without children. We purchased a suite and were placed between 2 families with young children. All night long I had to listen to crying children in the adjacent rooms as the walls are very thin. Not worth the $205/night that we spent. You need to have a wing or a floor for adults only. I now have to reluctantly pay an expensive bill for an experience I didn't enjoy. April 20, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by The Tower Rooms My first stay was not in the Tower it was in a regular room wihich was comfortable and very clean. The Tower rooms was "GREAT". I felt as though I was in a suite, everything was to my liking. It was very comfortable and clean. April 20, 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by Over-priced for what we got Very small room that was dark since the only window looked out towards another window that was only about 20ft away. We paid £245 for two of us but with taxes and car parking at $53 per night, two nights cost us a staggering $790! Frankly this is over priced. Food was also expensive (breakfast $32 each). Location is excellent for shopping and cable car rides (stops outside the door). I will be back in SF in two weeks but will not stay here due to the cost. April 19, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Family Experience This place exceeded our expectations. We had a room with 2 queens and a cot for my family of 4. Great location and the staff was really impressive. Close to SUB Station and Cabs waiting outside. Hallway at night gets a little noisy with an echo but after the first night it was not a problem. A fan / white noise machine would fix that! Stayed 4 nights and really enjoyed San Francisco. April 19, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great location The hotel is located in a prime spot for shopping in Union Sq. I'd suggest researching local restaurants and bars before you make the trip. The concierge wasn't too helpful when we asked about "must see" locations and restaurants but it is a really gorgeous hotel. April 16, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Fantastic Stay Stayed here 2 nights with my family on a northern CA vacation. Everything was great, including staff providing amenities when i misplaced my toiletries bag. April 16, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Bourbon Steak Manager I've stayed at this property probably a dozen times over the past 10 years and when i was here over Xmas, I had dinner at the Bourbon Steak for the first time. It was honestly one of the worst meals I've ever had. My steak was over-cooked and nearly flavorless. The lobster was tiny and boiled to death. I've been staying at the SPG properties for many years and simply had much higher expectations. I brought this to the attention of the server and the manager (Karen). They promptly offered a newly prepared steak (nicely done) and since I wasn't in the mood to try the lobster again, she simply removed it from my bill. Over all, they did ALL of the right things to make it right. I decided to give it another try this evening and they nailed it! Service/food was EXCELLENT! I stopped Karen on my way out to thank her for making things right when I was here over Xmas and let her know I decided to give them another try. April 15, 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by Room feels old, and items broken Friendly staff, but this place feels run down. The lamp by the bed is broken and the sink stopper is also broken. Called maintenance 3 hours ago, but no response yet. TV is oddly placed. Check In - how about more conspicuously placing the Starwood Preferred Guest sign? Waited 10 minutes in general line (really slow) only to later see the inconspicuous SPG sign. April 15, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great one night stay Our most recent stay here was for less than 24 hours as we were in town to attend a wedding. We checked in after 8:00 pm and the front desk attendant was extremely helpful, I believe his name was Erich. I had requested a King Size room, and Erich was gracious enough to offer us a Tower Room on the 30th floor, as they were sold out for the night. The Tower Room was great, it was clean and well designed. The bed was wonderful and the shower head was relaxing. We especially loved the elevator ride up to and down from the 30th floor, such amazing views of the city. The bell staff was super helpful as well and we enjoyed the lounge area in the Bourbon Steak restaurant. This is easily one of my favorite hotels in San Francisco, you can always count on great customer service, comfortable rooms, and you can't beat the location right next to Union Square. Rated 5 out of 5 by Horrible turned wonderful quickly IWe checked in and went to our room and freaked out. We had a view of a block wall. Quickly went back to the front desk and explained there must be a mistake as I reserved a room with a view of Union Square. I was in shock...He checked my reservation and I had booked a room with a view of Union Square but said they had upgraded me ( to the room with a block wall view). We belong to the SPG rewards. I still don't understand how that would be an upgrade. We ended up with room 333 which exceded my expectations...Had a wonderful view and spacious room and a very enjoyable stay... April 14, 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by Mr. Hotel is in a great location. Rooms are very small even for SFO. The beds were comfortable but, again, small. The rooms are not very spacious and we had no view. We had a queen size bed but it seem like a twin bed. But everything else was fantastic. From the time we arrived, the valet parking attendants were very welcoming and polite. The front desk staff and concierge staff - outstanding - friendly and courteous. Every staff person we encounter was friendly and greeted us with a smile. Really great from a service perspective. We had breakfast on Sunday morning the buffet was really nice but expensive at $28.50 pp...the only other option was the lobby bar for coffee and continental breakfast. Overall a good experience which would have been outstanding if the rooms would have been more spacious and the beds would have been larger. Queen size should be offered as single rooms only. Thank you. April 14, 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by Our worst experience yet with this Hotel It was a wedding anniversary so we decided to slurge and use 16k of our points to stay at the Westin St Francis in Union Square. When we first checked in we were given a room that smelled of mold so we asked for a new room. Then when we got to the new room, the key didn't work. This whole fiasco took just under an hour to get into our room. We had the prime rib at the Oak Room and was disappointed at how much fat was on the meat. We expected better from the hotel of what we thought was higher calibur. When we went to check out the person at the desk was begining to ask us about our experience but then said "oh, your here on points". That was unprofessional and surprising. We've always liked staying here so we'll probably stay one more time. If the next visit is anything like our last visit, we'll never go back! April 14, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great Room Renovations The rooms have been beautifully renovated but missing a few things. Night stands had fake drawers, missing robes and no water or honor mini bars. April 14, 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by This hotel is not sound proof, NOISY You get all the noise you can imagine staying here. No doubt the design of this hotel looks really beautiful and posh, their windows and walls are like paper thin. You can hear the traffic from 9th floor, you can hear their conversion if someone is talking in the hallway or in the room next door, and your room shakes when someone closes the door, which usually result in a slam. Impossible to sleep in peace. Wifi in the corner room is also so weak that my laptop cannot connect to it, and my iphone cannot detect the signals at all, IT help desk then "suggests" that it is due to your devices problem. I end up having to turn on my roaming because there's no way to use their wifi. They dont serve complimentary water in the room too, not even for SPG members. Shocking. April 13, 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by regrettable experience Expected better from a hotel of this history and reputation. On check-in, I regretted finding wet towels hanging in the bathroom, used soap in the soap dish, unemptied wastebasket, etc. April 8, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by One of the Best Westin's Fantastic location, Amenities and staff. Would highly recommend staying at the Westin St. Francis while your in San Francisco. April 8, 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by Usually a great hotel, disappointed this stay I usually love this hotel, but I had a few let downs this stay. First, at check in, I had remind the woman that I wanted to take points as my gold "gift". She didn't acknowledge my status, as they usually do. The room was fine - but when I got out of the shower and the bathroom was steamy, I noticed writing on the mirror - a message clearly from the previous guests (or maybe older) "I love you, hope your shower is great! Have a great day!" That to me means that no one washed the mirrors in between visits... which always leaves me to wonder what else went without washing. Before I left for the day, I requested extra towels be left in the room, as I had more people joining us - and that never happened. And finally, we had a room service dish that we left in our room overnight - it was empty. Instead of housekeeping removing it the next day, they just left it. So when we returned to our room that afternoon, it was still there - and gross. None of this would stop me from staying there again, because I usually have a great experience, but this time it was not the best. April 8, 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by Posh, but nickle-dimes you I liked the room and the look of the hotel, but they use every chance to tag on charges, such as: $15/day for wifi. The funny thing is there is free wifi outside the hotel, provided by the city. My daughter got the buffet ($28). It came with juice and coffee. When I asked if I could use her coffee, I was told no and had to pay $5 for a cup. Not even a cafe or latte! Forget about any fee breakfast, or manager's reception. On another note, there is little space in the lobby to sit. We were visiting from out of town, and met up with inlaws, and ended up having to sit on the steps or by the elevator. April 7, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great older hotel with new upgrades in center of town What a fantastic hotel - old world charm with great updates, a wine bar downstairs, 1st class concierge help, free parking for Starwood members. We stayed in the new tower (as I'd read old tower not as renovated). Hotel exceeded my expectations. Car was valeted daily by staff and parked for free since we were members. Would definitely stay here again - centrally located. April 6, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by A Happy Stay I enjoyed greatly this hotel superb location staff kind and attentive gave me a spacious room at the thirtieth floor with magnificent city view - skyline and Union Square. April 6, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Good Hotel I spent two nights at this hotel. It is very large and well maintained. I booked a grand deluxe tower room and stayed in room 2691 which had amazing views. Unfortunately, it was a bit noisy as I could clearly hear the conversations in the next room. Further, there was some loud noises coming room the floor above which I was told by the front desk was due to construction. Additionally, there was no mini-bar available in this room which was slightly inconvenient. I requested late checkout when I arrived and the clerk wrote 4pm as checkout on my keycard. However, on the day of checkout a gentleman at the express desk told me the latest he would offer was 2pm, even though I am Gold level with SPG. I ordered room service 3 times during this stay and the 2nd time took three trips before my order was completed. I ordered hot tea with the continental breakfast and received the cups but no hot water or tea. The gentleman who delivered my meal was very apologetic and friendly. Overall I think this hotel is decent and I may or may not stay here again the next time I visit SF. April 6, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Comfortable but pricey stay downtown The Westin St Francis is located centrally in downtown and is well connected to many touristy destinations. It is a large hotel so don't expect personal attention but on the whole it is very comfortable and efficient although a bit pricey. April 4, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Central location and exclusive setting The hotel is definitely an old fashioned high end hotel. The location is superb for shopping and the personell are kind and helpful. I will without doubt comeback. April 3, 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by Terrible stay The hotel rooms are old and dirty. The front desk staff is slow and unresponsive. This was the worst experience I have ever had at an SPG hotel and possibly the worst hotel experience I have had in the past 5 years. March 31, 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by Noisy, noisy, noisy. Bang, bang go the doors; or is it gun fire?? Never stay at this hotel if you want quiet and sleep. Poor dollar value for a Westin! Please buy some new door closures as the noise is unacceptable from the doors banging each time a guest comes or goes from their room. March 31, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Classic Hotel with Newer Amenities The classic look of the hotel in main tower and new tower view were a perfect match. March 31, 2014
