Rated 3 out of 5 by Libra90020 Beautiful Hotel
This is hotel is so beautiful but my review here is for the people that works at this hotel. This is my second time at this hotel and different person helped and they are just the NOT happiest camper. I understand this hotel is very busy but these people forgets they are working in a hospitality environment or is that doesn't exist anymore? I am actually still at the hotel. Sad! Smile it's not that hard!!!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by gruuv Hotel with great location
The hotel is adjacent to Union Square, making it easy to access all the happening places in downtown San Francisco. My Room in the new wing was spacious and comfortable. The staffs could be more friendly though. A concierge person had pretty cold manner when I asked him about the Wi-Fi access in the lobby on my first day at the hotel. Not a very good first impression. However, overall, it's a recommendable hotel.

Rated 2 out of 5 by J544 Substandard Service
Unfortunately, the service level of the hotel was well below the Westin standard. My check-in was delayed over two hours, the front desk erased my cell phone number to notify me when a room was available, and a person casting himself as a television maintenance worker (not in uniform) arrived at my door to "change my television cables" without order or request. The front desk was apprised, but nothing was done.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Shopper1and2 Old world hotel in lovely location
The St Francis is an old world hotel modernized with a great location to walk out the front door on Black Friday and shop all day. We felt very safe being there.
I do wish there were not so many added taxes. I would prefer just to know the final rate of the room when all the taxes are added.
Our breakfast was the $25 American that ended up being $38 after all additions.
Parking is convenient but very pricey.

Rated 4 out of 5 by msm55 Symposium Stay
I stayed here due to a conference/symposium I was attending. Conf rate was acceptable... parking rates are really bad... Paid the $51 when I arrived and then attended the conference all day... claimed my car at 6:30pm and had an addition $30 charge for parking... the $51 is only good until noon. Ridiculous!!
Had some trouble finding the meeting rooms. No signed directing people to different areas of the hotel.

Rated 2 out of 5 by goldengate2013 Needs focus on quality
For this wonderful hotel, I expected more. I paid a LOT for a very tiny beef filet from room service. I called to have my dining tray removed, no one came - at all. I ordered food from the lobby cafe to go, they forgot to put it all in my 'to go' bag - which I discovered hours later that it was missing. Just a lot of poor quality issues - please improve!!

Rated 2 out of 5 by Paul31 This hotel does not live up to Westin standards
Old hotel. Noisy. Bathrooms are small and outdated. Tiny closets. No bathroom amenities. No Executive lounge. Not even coffee available for late night and early morning business travelers. Homeless woman sleeping in the lobby. Look elsewhere for your stay in San Francisco. I am a multi year Platinum Starwood member and this is the first review I've ever written.

Rated 3 out of 5 by LLJ73 Great Location and History
The carpets in the hallways are stained and worn and are badly in need of replacement. Our room was large, comfortable and the closet and bathroom were spacious. The furnishings, however, were dull and without style or character giving the room a rather depressing feeling.
The staff was excellent and very helpful.

Rated 4 out of 5 by PJPR Union Square Stay...
I've stayed here before, but this time was a little surprised at two things. I checked in and went to my room, this was after 4 pm. Room was just barely getting prepared from the prior guest...no problem. Left my belongings and came back later...room was perfect.
Was very surprised though that for almost 1 hour after I came back around 10-11 pm that I could hear doors slamming constantly...

Rated 1 out of 5 by Worst Worst hotel experience
By far the worst hotel experience at the westin st francis... This includes motels in 3 world / developing countries...
Bookings made over a month ago and room was not available.
Been waiting at lobby for over 1.5 hours.. And over 40 mins to speak with duty managers...
Arrived at hotel at 11.55pm after 13 hours flight and it is now 1.40am..
Bravo westin... Something to be proud of..

Rated 4 out of 5 by WacGen The Landmark building is an experience
The Landmark building is the historical front half of this property. It is old and has been refurbished many times over it's long history. If you are lucky enough to have assigned a room in this part of the hotel, don't be expecting typical Westin facilities. While the building is very nice and full of old world charm, the fixtures and doors are old and may not work properly. Our room's chandelier had a burnt out light bulb, which I alerted Maintenance to replace. They did not attend to this during our one night stay. Our bathroom door will not stay closed and lacks a working lock. The room was spacious and had a walk-in closet. The bed was the typical Westin Heavenly Bed. We had a quiet restful night sleep, even though Union Square (at Holidays time) was just outside our window.
I highly recommend this hotel to fully experience the heart of San Francisco that is Union Square.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Jbatlanta This hotel could be much better
Best location in San Francisco.
However, this hotel is in serious need of an upgrade. Old carpet in room, spotty Internet and television reception, bathroom and plumbing to name a few. And to make matters worse the housekeeping is inconsistent at best.
I will say the staff and management are first rate
I am a loyal Westin customer but would not recommend this property.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Karen234 Absolute disaster
Room type I booked one hour before checking in was not available. Nor were any other rooms. The one I was given had leaves and I think bugs on the floor. The bed was awful--and I love Heavenly beds. This one had rough sheets and was hard a rock. I left at six am because I could not stand it any longer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by UWOUWO Amazing Hotel Stay!
"The look" is amazing, the history is astounding and the service is impeccable! (Think of lots & lots of shimmering chandeliers, pics of Shirley Temple by the clock as well as Queen of Eng., etc.) Liked the extra secure elevators (women travelors). Thanks to Lauren for making our birthday party a true celebration! We smiled each & every time we came back "home"! Will def rebook if we return to SF!

Rated 3 out of 5 by Cinoma2001 Staff Could Care Less
From the moment of check in to questions of the Concierge, they could care less about me and my experience. They were the most unhelpful staff of any in my Starwood Owner experience and I'll always look for another hotel in San Francisco going forward. The service staff was the most helpful however and a big shout out to them for picking up the slack of the front desk and concierge teams.

Room 386, room temperature at 4 PM check in was 54 degrees F. Heater did not work. Maintenance opened vent, said it would take 30 minutes to heat room. Left room for dinner, returned at 10 PM, temp in room 57 degrees F. Gave up and obtained 2 wool blankets from housekeeping. Light bulb burnt out in center of room chandelier. Wall paper peeling off wall in numerous locations particularly in bathroom.

Rated 2 out of 5 by SG80 Smelly room with insects
I was checked into a queen bed room that is only slightly bigger than a walk in closet. The room had a stale smell and had a few tiny mosquitoes going around. Was told there was no other room to go to that night, but was given another bigger room the next day.Definitely not worth the price you pay.
not the smoothest elevators around
needs an upgrade

Jason was on top of my needs for not only this trip but the one coming up this weekend
where I have 3 rooms booked.. Top man.
In room phones need attention. The row of buttons to push for direct service to room service housekeeping etc, none worked.
Also calling the hotel from outside or the operator from the inside 20+ rings is not acceptable

Rated 2 out of 5 by RJS999 Very Disappointing stay
Two major flaws. My room was incredibly hot and I could not get the room cool. It was about 85 degrees when I got the room. I tried cranking the air and the room never got cool. I tried opening the windows and could not. On top of that, the room had no water in it. Being that I am a Starwood platinum, I've come to expect water in the room. There was not even water for purchase in the mini bar.

Everything about this hotel was top-notch. Yet each day of our three day stay our room became more uncomfortably warm due to the broken air conditioning in the hotel rooms. Staff were apologetic.

From the moment the bellhop greeted us, we were blown away by this hotel. The rooms were beautiful, the hotel bars and restaurants were great and the staff was excellent. Emily from the Concierge was particularly helpful in giving us suggested sights and restaurants.

Rated 3 out of 5 by SFbizness Plumbing was really loud
I was really happy with the bed, room size (I was in the tower), & fitness facilities. The only issue was the loud noises coming from neighboring rooms, between 7-9am all three mornings I was there. I thought they were doing construction, but realized it was actually the plumbing from surrounding rooms. They did credit me some points when I replayed the noises I had recorded with my phone

Rated 2 out of 5 by Sam10 This hotel needs improvements
The staff were unfriendly. The front desk clerk acted like she was doing me a favor. No water in the room. weak water pressure and antiquated plumbing. No acknowledgement or recognition to Platinum SPG, actually I felt I would have gotten better room and treatment if I was NOT an SPG member. It did match other Westin Hotels I have visited

Rated 2 out of 5 by debsteph Does not meet Westin standards for excellence - rude SPG staff
I find this Westin to be below Westin standards. I have been a Starwood Platinum or Gold member for many years. The SPG desk clerk would not even try to find a King room for me. I had to call the housekeeping supervisor and Hotel Manager to secure a "dirty King" - which I was glad to wait for. This hotel needs to be renovated. Good location - but the SPG desk clerk gives it a black eye.

Rated 3 out of 5 by RnSG Can You Hear Me Now?
Quaint room, comfortable bed and linens, ample storage and amenities. However, my husband and I could hear every detail of the adjacent neighbor's conversation, which led us to question our own privacy-wow?! Another big negative-very leaky shower head that actually sprayed water up and over the shower curtain onto the towel rack, toilet, wall, even the sink and mirror-quite a trajectory.

Rated 3 out of 5 by SB19 surprised
I stay at this property frequently, and was disappointed. The cleaning staff made the bed and nothing else. Breakfast roomservice tray was left, coffee cup, and bathroom towels were replaced but nothing else. Roomservice dinner was inedible. Spinach salad (tiny) with a piece of rubbery chicken. Very surprised as I have always had a great experience

Rated 3 out of 5 by BrianJ So-so stay at the St. Francis
Not the best stay. lots of noise coming from the hallway right into the room. ice machine got serviced multiple times during both nights with creaking sound from maintenance cart, bucket thrown around, etc. party across the hall with door open, front desk did not assist. hot water in shower was not very hot. sink water was much warmer than shower water - not sure why that was the case.

Rated 4 out of 5 by LAtraveler76 Hotel was amazing except 2 things
I had a wonderful stay at the St. Francis, the staff was extremely helpful and the hotel was lovely. Except the sink had a constant drip that could be heard at night. And when the air or heating system would cut off it would make a horribly loud banging noise. The first night it woke me up several times but I grew accustomed to the noise and was able to sleep through it the 2nd night.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Lesley2807 good overall stay
we specifically booked our room in the older part of the hotel so we could have a view of the tree lighting and ice skating so we knew we were staying in older rooms - all was well, just a little old/smokey smelling. the only negative at all was the concierge was not friendly or helpful without the slightest smile or welcome attitude.Other than that, our stay was lovely in both rooms.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Napafan SPG members should stay here in SF
There are 4 Starwood properties very close to Union Square. The St. Francis, the St. Regis, the Market St. Westin, and the W. Of those, definitely stay at the St. Francis.
First, the St. Regis and Market Westin may make you feel like you are perpetually at a conference. The St. Francis is far enough away from the Moscone Center to make you feel like you have escaped - at least for a short amount of time.
I read some of the reviews and it seems that some people recommend against the older part of the hotel. I totally disagree. The older section is really charming and is not as dated as some of the other reviewers would have you think.
The location cannot be beat - it's a really short walk to very good restaurants and Union Square is not really that busy in the evenings.
For SPG members, the St. Francis is also the place that is most likely to offer rooms for cash and points which is really convenient.
