I have been to San Francisco many times and love this hotel and its location. It is at the center of great shopping, restaurants, cable cars, museums, etc. This hotel has all the amenities you look for at a hotel plus more; fitness center, spacious rooms, in-room dining, great lobby restaurants, spa, shopping, etc.

I have stayed in this hotel since i was 12 yrs old. and i still think it's a great hotel. i do think since this is 2013 the internet should be free. It's like putting quarters into the tv to watch it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Marcia23 Beautiful Hotel with Great Service
This was my first stay at this Westin. The hotel is located in a great location at Union Square. It is a combination of old, traditional and new, contemporary. The room was spacious. Instead of a sofa there was a divan, which was perfect for reading. The staff was attentive, friendly and helpful. All around a great experience.
Great fitness center, too.

Although it was New Years Eve we have stayed at the hotel on several occasions as my wife is a meeting planner.
I have always found the staff to be a bit unfriendly and arrogant (it is of course the St Francis).
The bathroom floor was dirty with grim and hair on the floor.
I would not stay there again as there are many better options in San Francisco

Over 20 minutes in line at check in . Check in staff was then rude and sarcastic, then checked me in to a room that had not been cleaned. While the manager was accommodating trying to remedy the dirty room, the check in experience and the lumpy pillows ruined the experience. There are too many other options in San Francisco to even try this hotel again

A lovely hotel where we stay a few times a year. Great location and the staff is excellent. A few pointers for first timers though: park at the parking garage at Mason & O'Farrell. $32.00 per night insted of the Westins $51. Please note 24 hrs of internet connection is $14.95 which is nonsense. Gold & Platinum members should get a free pass on this!

We checked out at 830 in the morning however the line to check out was very long at that time and there were only 2 working in the office. I feel iyou need more than 2 workers at that hour of the day. ( paid cash for the room). I have another complaint I asked to have a view of union square which we did but the windows in the room were not very clean.

Tower rooms are showing signs of wear and tear, and bathroom lighting is poor. That said, Tower rooms are still better than the rooms in the old wing ("Traditional Rooms"), where walls are quite thin, bathrooms cramped and street noise readily apparent. Were it not for the opportunity to earn Starpoints, I would choose another Union Square area hotel.

WE NEVER STAYED IN OUR ROOM. WE HAD A RAT INSIDE OUR ROOM! MY CHILD WAS CRYING AND FRANTIC THAT WE STAYED AT ANOTHER HOTEL I TOLD FRONT DESK AND THEY SAID SORRY WILL TELL MANAGER at 1am in the morning! AND DID NOT EVEN OFFER ANOTHER ROOM! SO SAD ..NEVER AGAIN!!! I HOPE you guys will COMP BECAUSE I TRAVEL ALOT AND NEVER AGIN WILL I STAY AT THIS HOTEL!

The check in area was a bit cramped. Although they knew I was a SPG member which made me sure I was getting my points. The room was very specious (I stayed in the new tower). The shower was very nice, although the cocking in the shower could have been fixed. Overall it was a nice hotel. I will probably try and stay in the older part of the hotel.

The room was not sound proof. The room was on the 25th floor & you could hear street noise , also people in room above were walking or jumping on the floor (small children) that was very annoying and loud.. Finally had to call Security to go to the room to complain, it did stop after some time. Expected better construction from the new Tower Bldg.

Great location for people new to SF and wanting to see the sites. Right in the shopping district, close to Chinatown and downtown. The views are amazing if you can get a room higher than the 12th floor.
The staff is really friendly and responsive. I stayed for a few weeks on business and some staffers knew me by name. The workout facility is really good too.
The bars and restaurants in the lobby are great. Great food and cool vibe.
Not the best hotel for business travelers there on a consistent basis. The touristy treatment and area wears off and you'd rather be at a business friendly hotel in downtown where you aren't battling tourists for cabs in the morning.
Lastly, I would have liked a little better treatment at a platinum member. First trip I got an awesome room on the platinum floor, next two trips I got crummier rooms in the old building facing an alley.
Overall, a solid Westin hotel if you can get a new room with a view and want to have fun in SF for a few days.

After 2 tries in the Landmark building, I was given a very nice room in the Tower. The older part of the hotel is very dated and depressing. Hallways are dim, furniture is stained, street noise is too loud, bathrooms are wierd shapes. The tower was great, but it should not have taken 2 false starts, especially when I was paying for an upgrade.

We really enjoyed our stay....amazing location and views. We had booked online through the hotel website and did not realize we had booked the green package. It was explained when we checked in (made sense since we were staying for a week). There was some confusion when our room was not cleaned for four days but the staff corrected the issue.

Each individual on the staff was attentive, courteous, professional, and proficient. My 5 night stay led to many interactions with the front desk, housekeeping, and more. Each and every individual impressed me. This experience really speaks to how powerful individual contributions are, because, when combined, they lead to a 5 star experience!

Rated 4 out of 5 Comfortable rooms but needs renovation
Not sure about the rooms in the new part of the hotel but we were put in the old part and in a room with no view (#840) even though we booked for 7 nights. These rooms are spacious but lack modern amenities (small refrigerator, microwave). Concierge are knoeledgeable but quite arrogant and unfriendly. For the level of hotel we ecpected more.

Despite the fact that I'm a Starwood member, I was given a dark room facing an airshaft. I never had direct light even at noon. The bathroom was freezing because there was no heat vent in it. And the carpet was dirty and the wallpaper peeling. There are better rooms in this hotel, including gorgeous ones. So ask for one if you get this room!

Westin St. Francis is quite simply a fantastic place to stay in San Francisco. Ideally located, the perfect blend of modern amenities, gorgeous architecture, and full of San Francisco's very rich history. We are lucky enough to call SF home and really enjoy our opportunities to stay at the St. Francis for a special night in town!

We were given an inside, very small room that honestly felt like a prison room. All white walls, view of a concrete building right in front with a tiny tiny room. We were upgraded the next night to a much larger room and that was quite nice & Spacious. The gym is fantastic, like the fact that you can use their running shoes and gym wear

Make sure you ask for a room in the tower as the rooms in the old part of the hotel vary greatly with some of them being very undesirable. If you get a tower room they are pretty recently renovated. The location is very central right on Union Square, on the trolley route and very close to market street. Lot's of restaurants in the area.

I enjoyed my business meeting at the Westin St. Francis! The view was spectacular from the Alexandra Meeting Room on the 32rd Floor. My room was very comfortable. I would love to come stay again for pleasure in the future and see a few more historical sites.

From the moment we checked in to the time of our departure, everything was perfect. Hotel staff is very friend, professional and accommodating. Guest rooms are clean, modern and very roomy. Great central location for anything you want to do in San Francisco. Helped to make our mother-daughter weekend a memorable experience.

the room and location were wonderful with the exception of the restriction of the use of the small refrigerator. Unable to store anything without risking as extra charge. Also, bath robe was there the first night, left on hook in bathroom to reuse - only to find it gone when I returned. Housekeeping removed it and did not replace it.

Booked this hotel directly with Starwood. received confirmations using points and ongoing birthday promotion. Upon check-on was told that they didn't have promotion booked and couldn't accommodate us. Had to use more points to stay. Called customer service and they couldn't help and said i would be contacted by manager of call center where initial reservation was made. They should have conversation on record. Well a week later I receive an email from someone in Ireland who says there is no recorded conversation as there should be, and that there must have been a miscommunication. How likely is a miscommunicaton occurs that i would say i want to use the birthday promotion and it was interpreted otherwise??. So now after calling again and being told this person in Ireland would call, in a half hour and no call. This is terrible service and from a supposedly great hotel in SF. Isn't there anyone in the USA that can speak to me intelligently about this. Definitely will think hard about using Starwood hotels again!
