Rated 5 out of 5 by Jazzandtap Perfect Stay
Our room, a Grand View King, was absolute perfection! We thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience at the hotel. From the welcome staff, to room service, to valet, to concierge; we were pleased and then some!!
Our entire long weekend was full of memorable experiences, of which the hotel was one.
Thank you all for a fabulous stay!

Rated 1 out of 5 by BusyTraveler247 SPG MEMBERS BEWARE OF POOR SERVICE
This hotel has extremely small rooms that are poorly designed and uncomfortable. The bathroom door cannot open fully...you literally have to slide through a small opening and close the door to stand in the bathroom. You can lay in the bed and touch both walls on your left and right. After checking in, housekeeping barged in without knocking and disturbed us unexpectedly. And the absolute worst thing is definitely the service by the front desk staff. As an SPG platinum member, they made me feel very unwelcome. They claimed they couldn't change my room when I voiced concern with the room I received, yet many others were showing available online. Other staff in the hotel has also commented on the difficulty of the front desk staff saying "they rarely help and are rather difficult". When I complained of not being comfortable here (which was 5 minutes after check in) they refused to do anything to help...including not allowing me to cancel and move to another Westin hotel nearby where I could be much more satisfied. Overall, this property has extremely poor staff, poor attention to detail and is among the worst spg properties I have ever experienced. There is one positive - the bell staff is prompt, informed and a pleasure.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Heid27 New Years Eve
We stayed at the hotel for New Year’s Eve just for the location. However we ran into several issues in the evening. We first needed to get our car from the valet parking in order for us to pick up our daughter from a New Year’s Eve party. Valet only had two attendants on duty. We were told it would take 20 minutes to get the car while our attendant spent the next 5 minutes trying to talk us out of getting the car. As it turned out our car was not parked in the hotel parking lot but was parked several miles away which cause the hour delay to retrieve the car. Unfortunately there were no taxis available in the evening. The second issue the hotel elevators broke in the evening. We were stuck in the lobby for over 2 hours at 2:00 am and staff stated there was nothing they could do. We were finally able to go up in the service elevator but the person who helped was rude. I have stayed here before so I was quite surprised by the lack of attention to their guest needs.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Kathy Didn't meet expectations.
The hotel had a lot of character but the staff barely noticed the guests other than checking us into our room. Once in the room, there were no toiletries with the exception of one bottle of conditioner and one bar of soap. The toiletries ran low and were replaced with the exception of lotion which again, I had to ask for.

I was very happy with the location but I have to admit the room we were given had some issues.
1. The bathroom has a hole on top of the door that would keep banging when u opened and closed the door.
2. remote control did not work
3. although we loved your location we noticed there were many others around for next time.

We love this hotel for many reasons, location to Union Square, history , ambiance and rooms. We keep saying we should experiment with other SPG hotels in the city but always happily end up at the St. Francis! This time we were upgraded to a front room on the 11th floor with a spectacular view. Can't wait to go back.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Jen73 A place that feels like home
We feel like we are being welcomed "home" everytime we stay at the Westin St. Francis. Many of the employees know us by name and we know them by name now as well. We are treated so special and that is why we frequently take "stay near home vacations". It is so dependable and everything is beyond our expectations.

Rated 3 out of 5 by ChristineMark This hotel did not meet the expectations one would expect from an iconic hotel. It was chosen for our honeymoon specifically due to its reputation.
The room was beautiful, the food, while expensive, was very good. The housekeeping staff was very helpful and professional. We were welcomed with a complimentary bottle of champagne and strawberries. My complaint is with the check out procedure. First, we were expecting our bill to be given to us the morning of our departure by it being placed under our door. This was the expected procedure according to the hotel guide we found in our room. More upsetting was the hassle over the final bill, however. We had been offered a discount on the second night
( a rate based on our year of birth--this case 1953 or $53.00) unfortunately the communication between the reservation agency and the hotel front desk was flawed and we spent between 20-30 minutes waiting for some type of reconciliation. In the end, I asked to speak with the manager ( Maya) and she could only tell us to wait for her phone call to us later that day after she spoke with the reservation agency and had them review the recorded conversation made during the
reservation. While in the end, the telephone recording verified the special rate we had been offered and we did receive a phone call later in the day notifying us that we were given a refund on the amount we had been over charged, at the time I felt like my word was being doubted; it was a very negative experience and an unfortunate and stressful end to our honeymoon. It also made us late and we were unable to meet with friends we had planned to have lunch with on the way to our next destination.
I am very disappointed in our final experience with the hotel. We had planned our entire wedding in San Francisco around staying at the St Francis the evening of our wedding and, as stated earlier, we had at the time no doubt that it would be worth it.
We had planned on coming back to celebrate anniversaries in the future but that is in doubt now.
I wish I could say that our experience with the hotel was perfect and that it would be a lovely part of our honeymoon memories. However I guess that is not to be the case.

Rated 4 out of 5 by DanBird Getting close to a remodel
Great Historic Hotel, but even the newer towers are in need of a remodel. Bathroom had no ventilation, the sewer backed up in our bathtub and stains on the floor tile. The bathroom mirror had lost part of the paint from humidity and the outside windows, although bolted shut had signs of damage to them.

Rated 1 out of 5 by LisaZ This hotel was unsatisfactory in service and comfort.
The staff was uninformed and unhelpful. Including 2 managers on staff. The rooms were uncomfortable and lacked normal space to move around in. I would not return to this hotel to stay. Disappointing.

Rated 2 out of 5 by abev disappointing experience
when i checked in they told me they could not give me the same room for all 3 nights. I was in one room for the first night then i had to move to a room in the old building despite being told i wouldn't be in that building. The room is tired looking, with shabby carpet, outlet hanging off wall.

Rated 5 out of 5 Went above and beyond for my family
Basics: Location is fantastic: close to Powell Station for BART, cable cars, and muni. Right on Union Quare which is fantastic. Clean, large standard rooms. Terrific bed and bathroom.
Extras: I brought my wife and toddler son on the trip. The staff went above and beyond to make sure they enjoyed themselves.

Rated 5 out of 5 Wonderful hotel and staff.
Another excellent stay at the St Francis. I arrived early and not only was I checked in early, but was given a nice room over looking the Square. The Landmark rooms have such great charm and appeal.
The toilet plumbing was leaking and issue was resolved quickly.
When in SF, St Francis is the place to stay.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Educator It's old
We stayed on the 12th floor of the old building. Found the room cramped, somewhat dirty, and in need of a fresh cost of paint. Some peeling on walls and frayed furniture. When offered another room we found it larger but on a main hallway, making it noisy and still in similar condition as the other room.

Rated 2 out of 5 by MT88 Worst Westin Experience I ever had.
This has to be the worst Westin I've been to.Check In was late. Westin was suppose to inform me when the room was ready. That never happened. Next day, requested for room to be made up, took another phone call 3 hours later for it to be done.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Cencalfarmer Perfect San Francisco Weekend
Our weekend stay at Westin St. Francis was perfect.
The staff and property was better than I remembered during a stay ten years ago. The proximity to all of our stops could not have been better. Our entire part was impressed.
The Westin St. Francis will be our hotel in the city from now on.

When we checked in our SPG agent was very helpful in upgrading us to a beautiful Grand View Room. She was friendly, efficient, and welcoming--telling us to come more often to San Francisco. Her name was Priscella. We didn't have time to use all the services, but we guess they were above expectations.

Everything was nice. Nothing special, but fine except for the elevators. Some had out of service signs on them, but only on certain floors. Call buttons did not always work on the 9th floor and elevators took five or more minutes to come. Said they were working on it - hope they get it fixed soon,

Each year we go to San Francisco to do our Christmas shopping; each year we stay at the St. Francis. The hotel is beautiful and the staff is amazing. And of course, their heavenly beds are just that, heavenly. The hotel is well located and the restaurants on site are great! It is a wonderful place.

Rated 2 out of 5 by LVtraveler Disappointing stay
I love Westin hotels in general, but was very disappointed with my stay here. I reserved a king room but was told they were sold out when I arrived. After waiting 15 minutes, they came back and put my in a king bed. Only rooms in the old tower were left. The hallways are creepy, carpet stained. My bathroom was so tiny, the toilet inches from the wall I had to sit on it sideways. Burning smell throughout the night, paper thin walls, very noisy, etc. -a miserable experience. They finally moved me 2 days later to the new tower -i asked repeatedly for a new room. BUT I had to pay extra because it was on the 23rd floor, same room on 21st floor wouldn't have been more but they were full. Not cool! They didn't apologize for the inconvenience or 2 nights of no sleep. The food service in the bar was also very slow. The bell hops were nice and there is a Starbucks in lobby. Also a Great location for shopping and cable cars but I would never stay here again, there are too many choices in San Fran.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Grama Sagging bed. Understaffed
Good size room with great views did not offset discomfort of sagging mattress
Lobby was a zoo. Lines to check in; lines at concierge desk; lines to check luggage. People milling about everywhere indicates the popularity of this spot but unwelcome when one just wants to go about one's business

Rated 3 out of 5 by Bjul Historic hotel and location is great
Great location and such an historic place. The rooms are sparten, but very clean. We had a Landmark room and the adjoining room doors there allow one to hear all going on in the next room and hall, so not very private. Another member in our party had a Tower room which was more private & quiet.
