Rated 3 out of 5 by businesstravel12345 Average experience; would stay again if necessary
I try to stay at Starwood properties every week, and this was my second stay at the Westin St. Francis this year. My last visit was not the most favorable experience, and this was an improvement. At the end of the day, though, I’d recommend looking into other hotels in the area. There are many to choose from that fall in the same category and similiar price point.
From the time I dropped my luggage off in the morning to check-in time late in the evening, the staff was very friendly. I also ordered room service one night, and that was very good.
My one big complaint/concern about this hotel is the overall cleanliness. Similar to the last time I stayed here, the ceiling vent was covered with large dust bunnies. For those with dust allergies, that can be a problem. The last time I stayed, they did a deep clean of the vent. I asked the receptionist at the front desk if she could have someone take a look at that, and I returned to the room that evening with the vent still covered. The next day, I asked again, but nothing was done. When you leave your hotel at 6am and return around 10pm, you don’t really have time to follow-up on your requests or to pack up and relocate to a different room, so I just stopped asking and stayed in the room. I did have allergy problems, and it was a little frustrating that nothing was done.
Overall, my stay was decent and the staff was generally very friendly; it was just a little disappointing that there was no follow-up to any of the requests, and also a little disconcerting that the room cleanliness isn’t the greatest.

Spent four nights at the landmark namesake Westin St. Francis Hotel, San Francisco.
It's got old school charm, dark paneled luxury that you do not find anywhere else in modern S.F. Highlighted with the "Black Friday" events across Macy's and the Union Square
tree lighting festivities, an ice skating rink across the street, it was a thrill to stay there after years of visiting S.F. since the '60s.
Dinner at the Bourbon Steak was the highlight of our dining in S.F., food capitol of the West.
Best steaks we ever had in a restaurant!

Rated 3 out of 5 by Tabatha Not the Best!
Asked for a corner room, non available except fifth floor, had asked 10 or above.
Had room 1089, no robes, had to ask for them. Toilet seat cover falling off, sink faucet falling off, Heavenly Bed was a Simmons very hard. Hotel lobby elevators and hallways freezing! After Chateau Montelena dinner took guests to Bourbon and they refused to seat us said we had to eat something. Sat at a long bar table and the waitress was rude! Next time came back from Farallon and couldn't have a drink in the other bar closed for a private party. Coffee bar closed and did not want to go back to Bourbon so went to bed!
Thought we were Starwood Gold! Toilet paper and kleenex subpar, as were some of the towels.

This is a nce hotel ,but I have a few suggestions. We are gold Starwood members and were offered an upgrade. However we went from a smaller room with a queen size bed to a room with a king size bed. I would have been great with this as an upgrade except it was in the Towers right next to the outside elevator which created a lot of noise all night. A larger room with noise is not an upgrade.

I participated in your Green Initiative- waived room service. In hindsight I wish that I hadn't. While I always reuse towels, making the bed & touching up the bathroom each day is really necessary. My bad.
Last, I had a smoker in the hallway at night. Never saw him/her, but the smoke really bothered me... in my room! I once called the front desk to please notify hotel security. Oh well, a towel rolled up at the bottom of the door seemed to help.

Rated 5 out of 5 by DoubleK Best Front Desk Staff Ever!
Just want to give a BIG shout out to Yvonne and Joy at the front desk. They are absolutely awesome. At one time I was practically a resident at the St. Francis and Yvonne always, always made me feel welcomed and comfortable. After coming back after a several year hiatus, Yvonne greeted me like it was just yesterday when we last saw each other. I recommend the St. Francis to ALL of my friends.

Rated 1 out of 5 by auntjo92 Terrible Customer Service
My wife is a Platinum SPG; we stay many nights per year in Starwood properties. We are always extremely pleased with the Starwood properties. However, the last 2 times we stayed at the Westin St. Francis in San Francisco we experienced the worst customer service we have ever experienced at any hotel. There is not enough room here to explain all the details:
(1) when we checked in the hotel did not honor the confirmed reservation we had--telling us that all of the room types that had been confirmed were not now available (we were using Starwood points and a suite upgrade); (2) An associate left a box of vintage wine at the front desk; our name prominently on the box; we were never notified by the hotel that there was a package waiting for us--when we learned that this box had been left for us we went to the Front Desk manager who, after "checking all departments" said that there was no box for us. It would lead one to the conclusion that the box of wine was stolen by a member of the hotel staff (although that cannot be proven, of course). As a result of the combination of really poor service problems, we will never stay in this property again--and we will make sure people we know will hear about our experience.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Dayen13 The amenties were nice
Started off with my requesting someone call me back re: spending 2 nights. No call back ever, very disappointing. Also I'm glad I asked the front desk clerk on where the elevators were which finally prompted her to tell us of the NEW elevator process. Other coworkers were really confused or lost. Our room was SUPER tiny with thin walls I was woken up at 5am by other guests. The hall ways were freezing. We had our company party here and others that checked in 4-5 hours later than I received much better rooms/views/more space.
