I visit this hotel approx. ten times a year. I have never really been treated all that well here for being a platinum member. I was staying here last weekend and all I requested was a room with double beds since I was on a guy golfing trip. When I arrived to the hotel all they had was a room with a queen bed. I said My quest and I are not sharing a queen bed together so they said they would send up a roll away bed which the room was so small the roll away bed probably would net fit anyway. So I stated to the desk clerk that we were going to the Giants game that night and would not be back in till midnight and he said he would make sure that there was a roll away bed in the room when we arrived back. We got at 12:30 A.M. in the mourning and of course there was no rollway bed. So I had to sleep on the floor since I was not going to make my quest sleep on the floor and this also makes me look like a idiot. I called down to to the desk and they said all of the rollaway were being used so I had to sleep on the floor for both nights of our stay which is not good since I spend at least a half million dollars with starwood each year. I not the person to complain but this was unacceptable. If it was my wife and I staying there that would have been somewhat OK. Rick

Staff worked so hard to respond to our needs and provide exceptional service. The staff made our stay wonderful and we will most certainly return in the future.

Overall good but missed in a few areas. House keepers were to clean the room after 3 days and didn't. We had to call them at 4pm to get our room cleaned. They did fix the over site once notified but didn't say where the ball had been dropped. Not a big deal but you don't expect it out of this high end of a hotel.

My husband and I met 10 years ago in San Francisco - a chance meeting of strangers in a restaurant called Buena Vista. When the hotel found out, they sent a care package to our room - all the fixings for Irish coffee including Irish Whiskey and napkins from Buena Vista! What a nice surprise.

for our 50th anniversary. Although the room was the # we requested, thinking that was the one where we spent our wedding night, it wasn't the room we were thinking of, our fault! Services were outstanding, from bell hop to room service and the extra special additions sent to us for celebration of champagne and cake. A wonderful stay.

The hotel was great. I stayed there 30+ years ago and it is much nicer than it was then. The rooms were spacious, comfortable, clean and it is located in the heart of the city. The staff was courteous and sincere. My wife left her glasses in the lobby and they called us to tell us they found them (her name was in the glasses case.)

Once you enter the lobby, everibody wants to help you enjoy the visit. All the different departments do more than expected for you compared to other hotels. Missed Victor's restaurant.

If you are sensitive to noise and smoke, choose the new building. I stayed in both and while in the older building, someone next door started smoking in their room and the smoke filtered into my room. There was little the staff could do other than bring in a fan and hope to blow the smoke out of my room but they didn't make the man next door stop smoking -- and he clearly was (I could hear him packing his cigarette package -- an unmistakable sound).

Low lights of my recent stay in the Traditional Section of the hotel at a special rate of $299 per night include:
- 5 minutes (timed) for hot water in the shower and close to 10 minutes in the hand basin
- carpeting stained and in need to replacement
- In room Wi-Fi Premium download ($16.95 per day) so slow that it was unusable
- no restaurants that have breakfast service
- Porters were highly effective and friendly

We are longstanding fans of the St. Francis, but this time the front desk clerk was not helpful. We had asked for a corner room with an adjoining room on an upper floor. We were offered an obstructed view corner on a lower floor, and ended up on the 21st floor with a non-adjoining room for our son (his B-day).

Excellent experience all around.
Checkin was a breeze through a well staffed SPG line. Offered late checkout without having to ask. Lobby is beautiful and buzzing with activity. And how about those exterior glass elevators! Quite the view!
The room was nice and had a good view of the city. Modern room with a great daybed and wonderful windows.
Wonderful location. Very near the BART and MUNI, plus walking distance to almost anything.

* Upon check-in, we had to wait in line for 20 ~ minutes to be serviced.
* The room was small, especially the bathroom
* The walls are paper thin so I heard a lot of noise in my room (moving furniture, vacuum, etc) even that was several doors from my room.
* The shower had no water pressure and took forever to get warm water
* the elevator close to my room was not working for two days.
* The smell of old carpet and drapes.

Friendly staff, but this place feels run down. The lamp by the bed is broken and the sink stopper is also broken. Called maintenance 3 hours ago, but no response yet. TV is oddly placed. Check In - how about more conspicuously placing the Starwood Preferred Guest sign? Waited 10 minutes in general line (really slow) only to later see the inconspicuous SPG sign.

What a fantastic hotel - old world charm with great updates, a wine bar downstairs, 1st class concierge help, free parking for Starwood members. We stayed in the new tower (as I'd read old tower not as renovated). Hotel exceeded my expectations. Car was valeted daily by staff and parked for free since we were members. Would definitely stay here again - centrally located.

The hotel is beautiful and it's history adds to its charm. The staff was welcoming and helpful, and the room was comfortable and quiet. All of my basic needs were met without difficulty. I was, however, disappointed in the fact that despite the ample pricetag (it is a high end hotel after all), in order to access the internet in my room, a "nominal fee" was required. I was there on business, and while free wi-fi was available in the lobby coffee shop, it would have been nice to have had equal access in my room. It was not convenient to carry my laptop and supplies from my 12th floor room to the lobby. In this day and age when almost all business is conducted via internet, free in-room wi-fi access should come standard. If lower level hotels can provide this service for their guests, certainly a high-end hotel like the Westin can cover the expense to provide the same.

The Westin St. Francis has the best location for business or pleasure travel while in the charming city of San Francisco.. Its central location makes it ideal to hop on a cable car, or simply engage in shopping among the top-of-the-line retail stores dotted around Union Square.

I've stayed several times over the years at the St Francis, but this was my first stay in the Tower. My room was lovely; large and newly renovated. However, the noise level from water banging around pipes (I believe from room below) was incredible. Made me miss the old wing.

When we walked into the room everything looked fine until we took a closer look. The lounge chair had crumbs on it, the comforter was stained and the lumbar pillow was dirty! We folded the comforter over to avoid the stain and put the lumbar pillow on the floor. Then I ordered lunch through room service, which came within 20 minutes. I ordered a sandwich with fruit, iced tea and a glass of wine. The wine didn't smell or taste right so I called room service to let them know and the person on the phone was questioning me. I thought he handled things poorly. I put the Saran Wrap back on the wine. A rep from room service came to pick up my tray and wine so his manager could taste the wine which I was happy to hear so he/she could taste it for themselves. The wine was credited from our bill. All in all our stay was fine. Hopefully the next time we come the room will be cleaner.

The architecture and location are the major plus.
The poor sound isolation room to room in the old part of the hotel where I stayed was a distinct negative.
The room whilst not huge was perfectly adequate, I liked the high ceiling, as it lent a sense of spaciousness that without it would probably make me feel a little claustrophobic, given I was out and about most of the time, I was comfortable. The bed was comfy and the room cleanliness acceptable. The hallway on the 3rd floor, had a constant odour, not a specific one, that was a little off putting.
For me as a business user, the pathetic, low bandwidth, and outrageously expensive internet was inadequate.
My only interaction with staff was at check in, where I led the, polite and obviously trying their best, equally obviously under qualifed/ trained employee politely through the spelling of every aspect of my registration.

I must say that after the last experience in another hotel, this one was a very pleasant stay. The staff was helpful and without the help of the concierge I don't know how I would have navigated the city. They arranged everything that I needed. Sarah, Jeff and Anthony were the ones that helped me in the concierge area and It was awesome!! Tours, restaurants, anything really....thumbs up definitely!!!
