Rated 3 out of 5 by businesstravel12345 Average experience; would stay again if necessary
I try to stay at Starwood properties every week, and this was my second stay at the Westin St. Francis this year. My last visit was not the most favorable experience, and this was an improvement. At the end of the day, though, I’d recommend looking into other hotels in the area. There are many to choose from that fall in the same category and similiar price point.
From the time I dropped my luggage off in the morning to check-in time late in the evening, the staff was very friendly. I also ordered room service one night, and that was very good.
My one big complaint/concern about this hotel is the overall cleanliness. Similar to the last time I stayed here, the ceiling vent was covered with large dust bunnies. For those with dust allergies, that can be a problem. The last time I stayed, they did a deep clean of the vent. I asked the receptionist at the front desk if she could have someone take a look at that, and I returned to the room that evening with the vent still covered. The next day, I asked again, but nothing was done. When you leave your hotel at 6am and return around 10pm, you don’t really have time to follow-up on your requests or to pack up and relocate to a different room, so I just stopped asking and stayed in the room. I did have allergy problems, and it was a little frustrating that nothing was done.
Overall, my stay was decent and the staff was generally very friendly; it was just a little disappointing that there was no follow-up to any of the requests, and also a little disconcerting that the room cleanliness isn’t the greatest.

As a SPG Gold member checking in with a SPG non-member I was very surprised and disappointed that my room was smaller than the other person in the party! So no recognition what so ever for being SPG. The room I was allotted was the worst hotel room I have stayed in all year, bearing in mind I spend 1/3 of my year in hotels all around the world... Not what I expect from Starwood. The room was the biggest disappointment ever, so small and so dark with the worse shower and water pressure I have even seen. What happened to "heavenly showers". I guess it's time to switch from SPG, I felt no loyalty or recognition, such a shame as I normally tell everyone how great SPG is.

This hotel has clearly taken great measure to train it's staff in the art of hospitality. From Suna at the front desk to Sara in concierge and all contact in between, the level of professionalism is second to none. Keep up the great work. I have never had a less-than-pleasant stay at this property and will return every time I come to San Francisco. Also will go out of my way to recommend this hotel to anyone with plans that include SF

Rated 1 out of 5 by Steve2014 Rooms badly need renovation!
The staff are terrific and the common areas have great charm. The location is unbeatable.
However, the room I stayed in was very poor - scruffy, lingering smell of tobacco, worn out carpeting, broken toilet seat. I know this is an older hotel, but that is no excuse for lack of maintenance.
Think twice before you stay at this hotel. The rooms at this hotel are not not what I'd expect of a Westin.

Our grand daughter was traveling with us and an item that was very important to her was lost in transit from our car to our room. We notified Kelly, one of the front desk managers, and between her and Angelina the issue was worked on all night including security cameras, personnel questions, etc. When we checked out the item was presented to our grand daughter. The tears of joy from our grand daughter brought tears to all around us at that point. Thank you to Kelly and Angelina for recognizing the importance of the item.

Hello! We have now discovered an new Annual tradition! Since we are now retired and can afford to go where we want when we want, we took advantage of a FANTASTIC offer to have a room overlooking Union Square and see ALL the Christmas lights! We cannot wait to go back next year. We LOVED our room...529. It was the perfect level to see everything and our room was in a quiet area. We want that room again. I have a Service Dog (Mini Long-Haired Dachshund) and there was NO problem at all with staff understanding my need for a Service Dog. The best...I have a disability that is slight but I do get extremely tired. We asked for a late check out and that was no problem. We were given a 1:00 check out. After eating our FANTASTIC in-room breakfast at 10:00, we went back to bed to enjoy our view and the comfy, cozy bed. Well, the next thing we knew, it was 12:45!!! We had overslept because we were so relaxed...even our dog, Molly, slept in, too. Not a peep out of her! So, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for making our stay with you so extraordinarily wonderful! We brought another couple with us, too, who stayed on the 10th floor. All of us had a great time! See you next year!

Rated 3 out of 5 by stubl4 access to the hotel on weekends in really frustrating
Traffic around the hotel and getting into the hotel parking is really frustrating on weekends. It took us a long time to get to the hotel and then over 30 minutes circling around the block to get into the parking garage. We first arrived at the hotel with plenty of time, but after circling the hotel and waiting to get in the garage, we had to rush to get into the hotel for the party we were attending.
Plan to arrive much earlier than you think you will need to or you may be frustrated, too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by WaikikiWoody Thanks for Thanksgiving at St. Francis Hotel
Spent four nights at the landmark namesake Westin St. Francis Hotel, San Francisco.
It's got old school charm, dark paneled luxury that you do not find anywhere else in modern S.F. Highlighted with the "Black Friday" events across Macy's and the Union Square
tree lighting festivities, an ice skating rink across the street, it was a thrill to stay there after years of visiting S.F. since the '60s.
Dinner at the Bourbon Steak was the highlight of our dining in S.F., food capitol of the West.
Best steaks we ever had in a restaurant!
