it's difficult to see where they renovated - other than a fairly nice, but sterile, club lounge the renovations seem anemic.

Rated 4 out of 5 by FL2015 Disappointed ...but nice hotel
Our stay was wonderful. Room was newly renovated and had a great view. Great shopping and food close by.
Disappointment in customer service with items left in the room. Notified hotel within 6 hours of checking out early and nobody would check the room for items left in the closet. Two days later called again and was told " nobody turned anything in". Really? Check the closet!

Rated 4 out of 5 by FL2015 Beautiful hotel with location, location, location...
Our hotel stay was great (except for one thing.) The room was newly redecorated and the view was exceptional. The lobby was nice; the Starbucks was bustling in the morning. The proximity to Water Tower Place and Michigan Avenue shops was a treat. Our negative was that a new dress and sweater were left in the closet. We called the hotel within a few hours of checking out once we realized it was left behind. We are being told that nobody turned it in. It was in the closet; couldn't someone have checked and inquired with housekeeping? This was quite disappointing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by deerisle Great location in Chicago
This property is everything that I expect from a Westin. The staff is excellent and the rooms comfortable--it facilitated an productive business trip. The fact that this property has an executive lounge was an added bonus. While I was traveling on business and did not have time for shopping or exploring, the location would be excellent for a family trip to Chicago as well. I would definitely return to this hotel.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Wayneo515 Best Customer Service in at a Chicago Hotel
I want to thank the Westin Hotel Michigan Avenue for employing such a fine front desk representative as Sarah G. Her warm smile and outstretched hand greeted us the moment we came to her station. She confirmed our reservations and told us about the Westin Rewards program. From that moment on Sarah felt like our personal liaison with the Hotel. Whenever we saw her in the lobby she called us by name, asking if everything was Ok, and if we needed anything? Sarah gets a GOLD STAR in my book for outstanding customer service in a busy hotel like the Westin Michigan.

Checked in and told the room w/ king I booked wasn't available. Put in a room with 2 small beds and they didn't really seem apologetic. Told was renovated but new wallpaper already peeling. There is a steel door stop sticking up from the floor right by the closet and I'm pretty sure i broke my toe on it; horrible placement. Ordered room service and after 30 min was called to be told they were out of half my order, as the guy was delivering the other half at my door. Thanks for giving me a chance to select something else, or at least offer. Internet act as if it were 1995.
Multi-year platinum member with other major chain. Just switched to SPG earlier this year b/c they seem to have more availability in the cities I am traveling to. I have had decent experiences thus far and hoping this is an anomaly. But this place can use some direction, training and attention all around.

Rated 2 out of 5 by ConfAttendee2015 Got overbilled; getting the run around now
My credit card has been charged more than expected, for my stay at the Westin Michigan Ave Chicago.
I have made five calls over the last week now, no resolution.
1. Central reservations asked to call the hotel directly.
2. The hotel receptionist directed me to someone, got vmail.
3. Called the hotel again asking to speak to a person, got directed to someone different, got vmail.
4. Called Central Reservations again explaining the problem. They said they are notifying the hotel, someone will get back in 48 hours.
5. Called the director of finance, got vmail.
Feels like a 2-star hotel to me.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Sari23 Tired and unfriendly
This hotel is in a great location but that's about all it has going for it. The service was pretty much non existent. After we checked in, not one employee ever said a word to us. No hello, no "can I help you," nothing. One day I called to see why the Internet was not working. Took 5 calls before anyone picked up the phone. When someone fnally did, the woman on the phone said "yes, the Internet is down. Someone is working on it now," Nnotthing else. No apology, no should be back up soon, nothing. Very cold. The only other service I encountered was when the bellman hailed a cab for me -- and he got in an argument with the cab driver!
The room was very tired. The bathroom counter was cracked, there was mold in the shower. The lights were way too dim in he bathroom, I could barely see to put on makeup. The shampoo, conditioner and lotion were awful. The TV was extremely staticky.
All in all, there was nothing by to like about the hotel other than the location.

My family recently stayed at this wonderful hotel due to its location on the magnificent mile in the heart of Chicago. We had a wonderful suite and was thoroughly impressed with the results of the rooms renovation. And you can never go wrong when getting a good nights rest in the amazing Heavenly Bed!

The new renovation has transformed this property from a functionally basic hotel to an extremely attractive property.
The newly renovated rooms are a great improvement over the old rooms and the addition of a club lounge is a total game changer.
Combine this with the excellent location and you now have a totally first class property!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by NFLDAY2DIEHARD Great location
Great location on magnificent mile and close to lake. Many good restaurants nearby as well as shopping. Was attending NFL draft and transportation was good but traffic was another thing. A MESS. Good walk as street is flat and scenic and interesting, to say the least. Would stay here again and hopefully the hotel renovations will be finished.

Rated 2 out of 5 by LisaW2013 SUPERB LOCATION. WARN OUT AND NEEDING UPDATING.
The location of this hotel is premium for sure, however the hotel itself is in great need of updating. It is old and worn out and in really bad shape. At present the price is right, but will probably go up once they update in 2015. The hotel does not have food service. However there is a wonderful and very pricy restaurant downstairs. The staff is unresponsive and uncaring. Just merely doing their main job and nothing more. There are a myriad of street people that fill the lobby sofas while trying to keep warn in winter. (We stayed during the Christmas holiday.) At best this hotel is a category 3, solely based on its fabulous location. A category 1 if it was located elsewhere.

April weekend stay in Chicago at the Westin Michigan Avenue! This is my favorite hotel and location and even though remodeling was going on, our newly remodeled room was as comfortable as always!! Friendly staff makes you feel welcome and almost like home! Great food, good drinks, awesome accommodations, Michigan Avenue - this is what makes us want to come back again and again!

Rated 3 out of 5 by ExpatChicagoen Convenient location, clean and nice though a bit dated
Came here for a conference and to catch up with a friend in the city. Easy to stay at this hotel as there is lots within walking distance and easy access to buses and taxis. There are newer fresher and fancier hotels in the area with correspondingly higher rates. Conference facilities were perfectly fine, though temperature control in meeting rooms unpredictable. Lunch served to the group was fresh, healthy and tasty. Guest room: I had a low floor inside room, meaning the window overlooked a central empty space with ventilation units and views of similar windows across the way. Although some light filtered down from above it had a cave like feeling that was hard to overcome with available lighting in room. I had received an email the week prior to my stay offering to upgrade my room to a 'view' for an extra $20 per night, so I guess i should have anticipated this. There was a slow leak in the toilet tank triggering a sudden loud gush of refilling water every hour or so loud enough to wake me up throughout the first night. I notified the desk the next morning and they were responsive, sending someone to work on it that day, which reduced the frequency of the noise but not eliminating it. Bed and linens were comfortable and my advanced request for down free pillows was met without any need for me to call housekeeping after checking in. This is unusual and much appreciated. There was an empty mini fridge in room which I like to use for milk for my morning coffee... interestingly there was a warning on the unit saying it was not suitable for dairy products or medicines, presumably because it's not kept at low enough temperatures. Putting a milk carton in the ice bucket with ice and placing the whole thing in the fridge worked fine; ice remained frozen for the three days I was there. Since this traditional 'ice box' strategy worked, I ended up viewing the nominal refrigeration as a good energy saving policy.

One thing I noticed was ho professional an attentive the front desk clerk was (Becca, I think). She thought of everything, so I wouldn't have to. All questions answered and gave me everything I needed for a great stay.

An error occurred on my original reservation confirmation that I did not catch. I alerted the staff of the Westin Michigan Avenue when calling to confirm my room for an upcoming weekend.
That's when their kind and considerate staff took over. Even though I was equal part to blame, the dates of my stay were restored without hesitation. I was even given a room upgrade with a view overlooking Michigan Avenue for my trouble.
It was a textbook example on how to deal with a problem. Not only did they solve it, but they earned a repeat customer as well.
The room was clean, spacious, luxurious and comfortable. Kind and courteous front desk and bell hop staff.
I highly recommend the Westin Michigan Avenue.

Rated 1 out of 5 by flnqca Terrible experience on March 28th
We booked this Westin Hotel since it was located near to where we were going to my niece's wedding. In addition, we stayed at this Westin Hotel in the past and had an enjoyable experience. The wedding was scheduled to start at 5:00 PM and our check in time at your hotel was at 3:00 PM. Since we were traveling 165 miles to get to the wedding, we planned to shower and change at your hotel. As it turned out, traffic in Chicago had us arriving after 4:00 PM but still plenty of time to change and go to the wedding. However, on checking in, we were told that our room was not ready. When we told your staff that the room was to be ready at 3:00 PM, your staff person replied that the check in time of 3:00 PM was no guarantee and that we would have to wait. At 4:45 PM my wife informed the staff person that she would be changing in the first floor restroom unless we were given a room to change in so that we could make the wedding. We were told that we could change in Room 1736 but that room would not be our room for the night. Upon knocking on the door to Room 1736, my wife was greeted by a half naked man who answered the door in only a towel. He asked if the hotel staff had also sent us to this room to change. Since my wife was unwilling to share this room with this half naked man, she contacted the hotel staff and then was told she could use Room 1846 to change in. Once again she was told that this was a temporary situation and would not be our room for the night. After quickly changing clothes, we were able to get over to a nearby hotel for part of the wedding ceremony. On returning to the Westin after attending the wedding reception at the nearby hotel, we informed the front desk that we needed keys to our room. When asked how our stay has been, we relayed to him the nightmare we had been through and he copied down the details we gave him. He assured us that he would pass this information on to his manager. Therefore, we expected to be contacted by someone on Sunday morning but when we checked out of your hotel at about noon, we heard from no one.

I needed to secure a limo to attend a meeting outside of Chicago during my recent stay. The concierge Rhoda, booked an excellent service and then went beyond to secure an adjusted rate when there was conflicting rates. This took numerous phone calls and messages but she made sure she followed through and was successful. This type of service is greatly appreciated !

I was in Chicago for a long weekend conference. Staying at the Westin was a great choice. It felt very calming after a long day. I felt like I had everything I needed right around me and if I needed to the staff was ready to help me.

Had it not been so incredibly cold during my stay, I am sure I would have enjoyed my stay here even more. I tried to walk around the area but due to single-digit temperatures and wind, it was of short duration. I was in Chicago to attend opera so you go when it's onstage despite the calendar. I had a lovely lunch in The Grill on the Alley and appreciated the concierge service that arranged for my ride to O'Hare to return to my home.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Rudy970 Crowded but Nice
We stayed here for one night beacause my wife was having a procedure done at a downtown medical practice. It was Valentines Day weekend and the hotel was extremely busy and crowded. The lobby isn't the best layout, so it was a bit chaotic trying to check in with traffic running through the check-in area. The staff was very helpful and friendly and the room was nice. You can see that the hotel is still updating (I assume that it has not been a Westin for too long). They do not have an SPG members lounge but they said they are working on that, but there appear to be many SPG Member floors.
This hotel is in a great location for shopping, dining and seeing downtown. Very convenient for that. Parking is expensive, though, if you are driving.
Overall its a nice Westin, just doesn't have all of the amenities.

I checked in on Sunday, February 1, 2015, the day of the Blizzard Linus. I had driven through it and arrived feeling completely exhausted and shaken. Jasmine at the front desk was very kind, up graded my room and got me free wi-fi. I was there for the Grad School Acting auditions and nervous and the next day found that Jasmine had had Hot Chocolate and Cookies sent to my room. These little touches just made my stay really wonderful. The whole staff was very friendly and helpful, but Jasmine, I felt, was really looking out for me.

Rated 2 out of 5 by JIEI Location was great
My family spent the weekend in Chicago and wanted a hotel close to certain stores so we booked this hotel. While the location was great we were not impressed with the hotel. While waiting to check in other guests were helped before us even though we had been waiting first. When we got to our room the blind was pulled down and had something all over it. My husband then noticed blood on the bathroom wall and bloody fingerprints on the back of the door. He addressed this with staff and a cleaning manager was sent up. Said they would do their best with the towel they brought but that they would probably need a brush to scrub it. They did not bother to get one. Room just did not feel clean and expected more from this hotel. To end the experience we went to get our car from valet and gave them our ticket and after 10 minutes of waiting they came over and asked us what kind of car we had. Not sure that I would give this hotel another chance.

Rated 2 out of 5 by LisaW2013 2 Star Hotel at a 5 star address
One would think that having a Westin situated ON Michigan Avenue within the Magnificent Mile area would assure a minimum of a 3 star hotel. No. This Westin was nothing at all as anticipated. The front desk staff does not engage, but merely mans their post. The lackluster entry and sitting area is filled with people who are just there to warm up and then move on to their next destination. The hallway, which is all that is left to see on the way to your room, is old, warn out and disappointing. Enter the room and you are adorned by bright fluorescent ceiling lamps that make you feel most unwelcome and like you are visiting a cheap low class hourly joint in some hole in the city. The room is warn, carpet old and dark, furnishings old and warn and out of date. And our room was a suite. OMG. The only newly renovated area of the entire suite is the bathroom, a place were only 1% of your time in the room is spent. Why bother to update a bath when the remainder of the suite is not? VERY DISAPPOINTED to say the least. This property clearly does not meet the Westin standard, nor does it meet the amount of stars that it is rated with among the SPG system.
The only positives: Situated on Michigan Avenue within the Magnificent Mile. An adjacent eatery. Pricy but delicious.
