The property is going through a renovation so the suites were not on the market and the club had been relocated to a room in the restaurant. There was no menion of this when I made my resevation. However, the rate reflected this situation and the front desk staff apologized for the inconvenience--though it really wasn't an issue. The location is incredibly central and easy to reach by car, train, or foot. Parking is crazy expensive--some rates include it but cheaper off site options are just south of the river.

I have been a regular visitor to the Westin since two years, really like the place more so for its comfortable rooms than anything else. This changed when I tried to check in tonight at the frontdesk, due to some issues with the frontdesk card machine, my card wasn't accepted. Upon offering to pay by cash, I was refused a room for the night by the Manager on duty. This is easily one of the worst things a hotel can do to its more loyal guests. I ended up dragging all my luggage to a hotel nearby at 12 in the night (where my card magically seemed to work). Being a Platinum member, this treatment has led me to re-think my association with Starwood. As far as this Westin goes, I'm never returning back again!!

A smaller SPG property along the Chicago River. While the hotel has limited views, they are okay; but the hotel is in a great location so it's all good. There were two weddings the weekend I was here, so I was unable to use a suite upgrade or get upgraded at check-in. However, the regular room I received was very nice and decent size for a downtown hotel. Katelyn from the front desk was very apologetic and really started my stay off great even without the upgarde. There is no pool at this property so if that is a big deal, select a differnet SPG property. The club lounge is nice and had good breakfast and appetizers.

It was a short one-night business trip but it was a memorable one. Staff were genuinely friendly and helpful. It was my second stay at this hotel and the last time was a year ago but I felt like I have been there regularly. Lisa from concierge was very helpful and recommended a wonderful Asian restaurant called Slurping Turtle as I had wanted Asia cuisine. It was more than satisfying - Thanks again Lisa, I did not see you after that and could not thank you personally! The bed was very comfortable-as always with your Heavenly beds. Your service quality throughout my interactions with your staff was always friendly and warm. Will certainly recommend to anyone going to Chicago.

Let me first say that I love the Westin hotels. I stay in them often for business, and am rarely disappointed. This was the exception. Great hotel, great location, and great view from my room. However, the room temperature varied greatly (even when the thermostat was as low as it could go). As a result...I woke up several times in a hot room...not a great night of sleep. For what its worth, I talked to others I was traveling with about this - and some had the same problem...others didn't. For the amount of money we were paying for the room rate, you would think this wouldn't be an issue.

This was my first stay at the Westin River North. The location is ok as it's not near the shopping area but could be an option for those needing to be in the loop area for business.
When I checked in I asked if any upgrades were available and without even pressing a key I was told no, there weren't. OK, that's fine. I was told the Westin Club was under renovation so a temporary space was set up in the restaurant off the lobby.
I got to my room and the view was great and the room was large but that is where the Westin experience stopped. Everything was clean but the furniture was dated and the bed mattress was sagging in the middle and the chaise sofa near the window was well worn too. The carpet around and under the desk was literally torn in several places and looked awful. The room was not inviting and not comfortable.
Beware I was told they are under renovation so maybe it will be restored to something much better. I looked on the website and it said "coming early 2015". Well it's almost Christmas (late Dec 2014) and I feel that I got the worst room in the hotel. I'm so very glad I was only there for ONE night. I was glad to check out!
I recommend AVOIDING this hotel until it's confirmed that everything is completely renovated. This hotel was a huge let down and not an acceptable experience.

The location of the hotel is great. The rooms themselves are up to Westin standards. Be aware that they are under renovation. It does state it on the website, but it's not prominent; nor does staff inform you upon checking.
Also. DO NOT USE THE CLUB. Not only is the club not on the club floor (it's in the lobby with VERY minimal services), but club level puts you in the epicenter of the construction. Staff makes no attempts to inform you on how the club works - making it completely worthless to use. Nor will they try to resolve the issues upon check-in. In room amenities aren't even present. No turn down service or ice service. It's better to just stay away from the club all together.
