My wife and I have stayed at this location many times over the past eight years. We have in the past always felt this was one of the better locations and hotels in the area. I don't quite know what happened this stay.
Some of the employees seemed a bit surly.
Example: We did not take the valet service for our car. When my wife rolled in our luggage, the employees at the front door would not open the door but, instead turned their back on her.2nd example- We signed up for the so-called green experience when signing in. In the past the maid would show up and replace the coffee and toilet paper and few small items but not take the towels and sheets. This was acceptable. This stay the maid did not show up at all so, my wife went to the front desk the next day to request coffee and toilet paper and was met with an employee who explained that we weren't entitled to that service because we were given the five dollars. My wife returned the five dollars because of the employees attitude. Upon checking out early Thursday morning, the desk employee seemed to be disturbed that we had interrupted her phone call. No how was your stay but, took the key and said nothing. As described, these were dramatic changes from our previous many stays at this property.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Nicholas201 Awful Stay at Westin Hotel
I would like to tell you about my recent stay at the Westin hotel in Chicago on river north.
I can just simply describe it as awful!!!
After being an SPG member for a year and accumulated over 60 K in points I decided to take a trip to Chicago for a summer vacation. I booked my hotel though the SPG site...it was categorized as a category 5...I wanted to let you know that it's not.
My check in was fine even got an early check in but because I had missed my plane my partner checked in on my behalf( I had added his name to the reservation)
Upping check supposedly he was upgraded as I was a gold member but if this was an upgrade I am not sure what I would have gotten at category 5 hotel with 12,000 SPG points a night.
When I arrived at the hotel, and saw the room I was not impressed. I had asked for a king size bed and I got a double, upon taking a shower I discovered the drain was blocked, a stench of mildew eroded from the room. I went down to the lobby and spoke to the manager, later I found out it was the assistant manager. I explained to him the issue and after much debate he decided to move me room and upgrade me to a club room.
The club room was the same size room, the same two beds, except he had given us some food from the club rooms--I didn’t need to be bought with some food--I wanted a room that met my need ( a shower stall without a bathtub). Instead here is what I got:
* a running toilet all night
* 2 AM drunk people knocking on my door
* bathtub clogged with hair room #1
* a fridge you can't even use
* a charge for something I didn’t use
* double charge for wine I already paid with my credit card
*I had to remind them twice during my stay that I had made a green choice--to get my points but also housekeeping showed up twice as well.
*the free food we got at the club room -- I got grinds in my coffee - the toaster kept setting the smoke alarm every morning --the only thing about this thing was the servers made it bearable-
At the end of the day, I used 48,000 points to book this god awful room and trust me when I say I feel taken advantage of --if that's the service you get when you book with points --I will not be wanting to stay at any westin at all.

Rated 2 out of 5 Not impressed
Stayed last week on business, initially 2 nights turned into 3. For a hotel that trying to be green they lack an important feature, all lights on/off switch for the room. I chose to earn extra points by declining house keeping but in a hurry on my way out hit the off switch which ended up not doing anything to the 4 random lights that remained on entire day while I was out. I did ask about this and was told that the switch in my room wasn't broken they just didn't have that feature.
Ate at the hotel lobby first night and the waitress spilled my coworkers drink on me. She called her manager to see if there was anything he can do about getting my pants cleaned. I was told that cleaning service cut off for the night was any minute now as it was to be picked up by a 3rd party service company. I just received my dinner a few minutes earlier so I chose not to abandon it while I went up to my room to take my pants off in hopes of having them then be cleaned over night. I was also told that they could not guarantee that I would receive my pants back by morning in time to go in to the office. As I was staying 2 nights these were the only pants I brought so I couldn't take the chance. The manager was apologetic and offered to comp a portion of the meal. I said sure, when we got the check ~20% was comped.
I added on a 3rd night via a new reservation through my corporate travel dept and asked the hotel to merge them so not to have to check out of the room. This was night before my initial check out. In the morning I found a checkout statement under my door so I inquired at the front desk, I wasn't told anything but after some typing I was told that I was all set and not to worry about it. I didn't until I received 2 charges on my SPG Amex card. 1st for 3 night second for 1 night, being double billed for 1 night. I contacted the hotels billing department by phone (voicemail) and via their email address earlier this week but no one has bothered to get back to me.
