Rated 1 out of 5 by Disappointing There are a number of reasons for dissatisfaction with my recent visit. First, when calling the concierge a number of months ago to obtain golf reservations, I was shuttled to an apparent third party for these arrangements. Even though I followed instructions explicitly, when I arrived at the Westin, the Concierge could not find or confirm my reservations. It was only after I was able to retrieve hard copies of Internet communications that she was able to confirm these times. Second, upon check in, I was not afforded any of the SPG Gold membership opportunities. Third, there was only one robe in the room for the two of us (which one was supposed to wear this, my wife or me?). Fourth, the hallways were extremely chilly, both a waste of energy as well as discomfort. Fifth, the ice machines were not located where mentioned. Sixth, there was not a back up box of Kleenex in the bathroom. Seventh, the shuttle was extremely inefficient and unaccommodating. Although we asked well in advance whether we would need to arrange a specific time, and were reassured that this would not be necessary, when we arrived at the designated time and requested a shuttle to the golf course, it took an inordinate amount of time to secure a ride, with frequent detours en route to the course, far exceeding the promised amount of time, and resulting in a vastly abbreviated amount of time to warm up at the course, to practice putting, and to hit range balls. In fact, we did not have the time to hit the range balls we paid for in the package. After finishing golf, we called for the shuttle and were promised that it would be there within 5 minutes. After waiting another 50 minutes, a repeat phone call was necessary to secure a ride. Even then, it took another 20 minutes for the shuttle to arrive. Promises that cannot be kept should not be made. Eighth, the soap was commonly not present in the sinks in the common bathrooms on the lobby level. Ninth, the availability of TV channels was poorly selected, and the remote control sluggish and commonly ineffective. Sound quality and picture quality was suboptimal. While I did not come to the Westin to watch TV, it would have been nice to have had some options for better occasional viewing. Tenth, there was no water easily available for drinking in the lobby area. My fingers are wearing out, but unfortunately I could go on. On the positive side, the free bottle of water in the room was appreciated, the elevators were fast and efficient, and the doormen were always friendly and greeted us warmly. I had a number of SPG "Thank You" certificates that I attempted to give out, but only found one sterling employee who deserved it. While Hilton Head Island was a wonderful place, staying in the Westin did not enhance the enjoyment, and upon returning we will certainly arrange to stay elsewhere. Overall, I was very disappointed in this aspect of the trip. During the year, I work hard for my money by serving people to the best of my ability. In return, when I spend my money, I expect the same philosophy. The fees at the Westin were far more than could be justified by the experience. August 23, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Wedding at the Westin My Granddaughter had her wedding at the Westin and we were very pleased with the results. The staff, especially Ashlee, surpassed all expectations. The wedding was on the beach and was beautiful. The staff, for both the wedding and reception made it so easy for us. We advised what we needed and they got it done. It was beautiful. The food at the reception was excellent and all of the staff performed their jobs very good and always had a smile on their face. I could not have expected better service. I would definitely recommend the Westin for anyone that would want a beatiful wedding on the beach without having to worry about anything. Great job Ashlee Fleming and the staff at the Westin!! Rated 4 out of 5 by Hotel is very good, except. I thoroughly enjoyed my recent stay at this hotel. The room was very nice and the Front Desk staff were very helpful. My only concern is that I participated in their green Initiative, where they don't come and clean your room and you get Starwood points. The problem with that is they actually don't come in your room to check to see if you may need some amenity, (coffee, tea, soap, etc…) I had to call (3) times to get someone to bring coffee to the room. That staff was not very responsive. Otherwise, very nice stay. August 23, 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by Oh Westin Hilton Head...What Happened to You?? Just returned from an 8 night stay at the Westin Hilton Head. This was our second visit to this hotel. Last visit was in August of 2013 for 6 nights. Our FIRST visit in August 2013 was amazing. Carolina Cafe had amazing food (shrimp and grits to die for!), impeccable service all around (including housekeeping!), clean pool and loungers. Oh what a difference a year makes. We were so very disappointed in our visit...Aug. 15-23, 2014. First the beds. If you like hard mattresses with ZERO support, this Westin is the place to stay. Perhaps it was just OUR room?? If so, definitely request room 3014 for your hard, uncomfortable mattresses. I woke up with a severe backache by night 3. It didn't go away until my 2nd night at HOME in my own bed. Housekeeping didn't vacuum our room until the 5th day into our stay. We had a 10 year old with us who was into crackers, arts and crafts, paper folding and all kinds of other messes. You can imagine what the floor looked like. We specifically had to request the room to be vacuumed. What a concept! The pool area. During the first few days into our visit the pool itself had sparkling water with a slight smell of chlorine...this is what you want in a public pool. Towards the latter part of our visit, the pool became a cloudy scary mess smelling of the sewer. I called the front desk to request that the water be tested. We never did hear about the outcome outside of getting a message on our room voicemail indicating that the problem "had been resolved". Yet the next day the pool was still cloudy and smelled. Huh?? My 10 year old refused to go into the pool after that. Sucks for us as there went the grown up relaxation time lounging by the pool while she swam. That reminds me...the lounge chairs. About half are covered in nasty mold. Oh wait...that's IF you are lucky enough to have snagged one in the first place. The folks here seem to throw towels on the loungers to reserve them by O DARK THIRTY. Who gets up early JUST to reserve a lounge chair??? Oh wait...that would be us...we learned that that was the ONLY way to snag a coveted lounger by the pool. Grab lots of towels by the way so that you can cover up all the mold. By Thursday, the hotel (and POOL) was getting noticeably crowded. We learned after circling the parking garage for 30 minutes trying to find a parking space (by the way, the spots OUTSIDE were all taken too) that there was some kind of doctor conference. So, no parking spots, even dirtier pool, and NO lounge chairs. Just my idea of a vacation by the beach!!! We tried the Carolina cafe on our 2nd night...the menu has gone downhill. Food was not as tasty as before and quite overpriced for what you get. Trying to work off all the delicious food we grabbed elsewhere on the island, we decided to use the stairway every time we went to/from our 3rd floor room. Beware!! They have these weird red metal tags that stick out from the handrail that can snag your legs if you're not careful. How do we know it can snag your leg? Our rambunctious 10 year old accidentally tested it out. My husband contacted the front desk to let them know of this hazard. OH, and he also told them that there was a coke can that had been in the stairway for several days. That coke can was in the stairway for the ENTIRE week of our stay. Do ANY of the Westin employees that THOSE stairs? Or do they just not care? I forgot to mention our soap dish. Apparently cleaning your own soap dish in your room is part of the requirement for staying here. Ours did not get cleaned at all. A nice sloggy, soapy mess after a few days. We loved this hotel in 2013. We relaxed, laughed, rejuvenated, and came back eager to return. This time, not so much. So very disappointing. Definitely not worth it for the cost...and we spent quite a bit for 8 days. August 27, 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by This hotel needs work I stayed for 5 nights at this location and was I surprised. I've stayed at the Westin in Savannah and was very happy however Hilton Head was not what I expected. First the elevator is too far from the room. You need a central elevator in the middle of the hotel. Poorly constructed.Second, there was an open ceiling right outside of my room with water dripping making the carpet wet and smelling like mold. Third, the cable channels need upgrading. There should be a broader variety of channels. The Westin in Hilton Head should get some tips from the one in Savannah. In addition, you could not obtain a microwave in your room, therefore if you want anything heated , you had to go to the lobby which was a goo 3 minute walk fro the room.Overall, I was not pleased with the accomodations. The best part of the entire stay was my housekeeper Pam. She was a kind, helpful and considerate. She made sure we had everything we needed.What a wonderful woman. August 12, 2014

Rated 5 out of 5 by This will be your best experience for a Resort My wife was truly tickled to death when she experienced the view from our ocean front room. The view of the garden, pool's and children playing was awesome. Just to mention a few things, the breakfast was outstanding and the staff were execellent. Never have I had so many healthy choices to choose from. The in-house reservation (Adriana) was very much a part in helping us get this most memorable vacation together. I want to thank her for that. My wife was very happy and did not want it to end but I promised her we wil Be Back. Thanks for a wonderful vacation / Anniversary. August 18, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by August 2014 We had a fantastic stay as a family with 2 teenagers. Staff was super friendly, hotel and grounds were clean, food and drinks were good. The only downside we had was that our "ocean view" room looked out on a roof top. There was no view at all. Not even of the pool. I missed having my morning coffee out on the patio. August 20, 2014
