My husband and i celebrated his birthday and our wedding in Nagoya this year; we went for the sumo tournaments which were SO AMAZING. but the hotel was such a gem - the concierge was absolutely fantastic and we had a perfect stay, start to finish. thank you to the staff for keeping up such a lovely hotel and high quality of standards! Rated 3 out of 5 by Not quite like the website photos I booked the night at this hotel so we can go watch the July sumo tournament at the park 10 mins away. First thing i noticed is the room is not the same as the website photos for the standard room. Bathroom is dated but in ok working order. Yes, agree with other SPG members, it's not quite in the league of SPG. Probably because all your reviews :) the staff is quite friendly and helpful. I was offered a free SPG perk drink or 250 points. Since i only stay one night so i dont bother to bug them for the upgrade to the one showing like the photos. Set your expectation and you dont feel too bad. July 10, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Very Helpful Staffs My friend and I brought our folding bikes to Japan, the staffs were very helpful whenever we want to get our bikes from the storage room, react promptly to all our requests. I booked my stay here with Star Points, but we still received very good service from every staffs in the hotel. It was a very enjoyable stay for us at The Westin Nagoya Castle. April 19, 2016
Rated 4 out of 5 by Better than before I stayed here a few years ago and hated it because the staff were so rude and robotic. This time was much better however. The staff were much more friendly and helpful and flexible. Most of them spoke English and were very eager to help out. I was surprised however that the SPG perks I enjoyed a few years ago are GONE! I read other reviews about no perks but thought they were exaggerating. I did have access to their lounge called "the Library" which offered a number of snacks like pretzels and chocolates. I was surprised however that there was no alcohol! Also a few years ago we could use the bar lounge and enjoy complimentary alcohol and one plate of food. This is no longer the case. And breakfast is not included unless you choose breakfast over the 500 points. A few pastries are available in the "library" from 8:30 am however and that was good enough. The room was a large corner room with sitting area facing the Nagoya castle which has one of the most beautiful views at night when the castle is lit up and in the morning when the sun is rising. If you do not have gold or platinum spg status I recommend you pay the extra money for a castle view room. The rooms on the other side have no view. At night in the lobby a lady was playing the piano which was really nice. Also they have a fitness club across the street I could access #not sure if free for everyone but was free for platinum guests#. The fitness club has a number of locals using it - gym, pool, sauna. The fitness staff were incredibly nice. . The only thing I didn't like was that there was a "cleaning" #didn't see her doing any cleaning# lady constantly walking around the men's locker room. I know this is Japanese culture but she was in the locker room almost the whole time just kind of wandering around. She probably came in 4-5 times while I was there but not really cleaning - just walking around. Made things uncomfortable when in the shower and she is at the glass door, walking out of the sauna and she is there, laying in the lounge and she is walking through, getting dressed/undressed and you can see her in the mirror. Maybe they can be a little more respectful of other cultures and have her maybe go into the locker room for a few minutes every hour. Rather than 4-5 times an hour. October 14, 2015

I booked this hotel simply because they are part of SPG, thinking that I will be pampered just like any other SPG hotels in the world to their "Lifetime Platinum Member". Sadly, big mistake! First of all, I have to pay for my breakfast! Secondly, they will charge me if I bring a guest to the lounge even if we just sit and have a quiet conversation. So, they want to charge me 1000 yen so that my guest can breathe the air of the lounge! When I am in other Westin hotels, I can bring one guest to lounge and use the service (drink/food) for free. So, what is wrong with this picture?! I think that this hotel clearly doesn't want to be the SPG family. So, they may just be better off to remove themselves from the hotel chain. Otherwise, more SPG members will fall for it...unless they change their way of treating their members immediately. I do want to mention that after initial complaint about hotel's attempt to charge my guest for breathing the air in the lounge, Mr. Hiromichi Tsuboi, Assistant Manger came to my room, and helped straighten things out. I want to say that I really appreciate him. But the hotel needs to do better than that. They need to train their employees to take care of their members so to avoid the same from happening again. Rated 1 out of 5 by Property has no regard for customer service, SPG recognition A two-night stay at the end of a brilliant tour of Osaka, Narra & Kyoto was a big mistake. Their WEB site announced (in 2013) improvements in their shuttle from the JR Station, so I called for more details. The associate hung up on me! So we took a taxi (1800 JPNY) only to learn the shuttle only operates 9 am to 8 pm daily! Checking in, we had to correct errors on our folio and soon discovered our SPG Platinum upgrade request was not honored. Sadly, it got worse: - there is no Starwood Link (isn't this standard?); - no place to print airline boarding passes; - no Platinum amenity nor did we receive standard SPG amenities. I contacted the GM, hoping to resolve these issues during our stay. Nimura Hitoshi did not respond to my phone call, letter or e-mails. Clearly, the management of this property don't care. Avoid this property if you can. June 11, 2015
Rated 1 out of 5 by Not a real Westin Hotel Worst Westin ever. Rooms really bad qualify - benefits as a Platinum member is nothing and the staff just does not care. Never experienced such a bad Westin before - should not be allowed in this fine chain of hotels. Will not recommend nor come back May 21, 2015
Rated 2 out of 5 by Little SPG Recognition The hotel is really tired both outside and inside. Toilet is akin to those in budget hotel. No lounge despite being a business hotel, thus you need to use your bonus points to exchange for breakfast. April 14, 2015
