Rated 1 out of 5 by Sanath Can't believe that this is a Westin
It's a shame to see the poor condition of this hotel. It's not the fault of the staff, they try very hard but the standard of the hotel is VERY poor. By far this is the lowest level location for the Westin brand in canada.
My room had a portable air conditioner when I walked in and it was an upgraded room for Spg platinum...... Need I say more.

Rated 2 out of 5 by guestfromroom456 this hotel needs renovation
I stayed at room 456, for the price of $200 a night I expect cleanliness through out the room. The toilet bowl was stained and aged, public washroom has a better toilet bowl. My kids don't even want to use the toilet, The only good thing is the location, the boardwalk was the best thing from staying from this hotel.

We were so impressed with this hotel. What made it even better was the amazing staff. They were all very friendly, helpful and just so down to earth. The room was great. The restaurant was amazing. The hotel had a very relaxed and inviting atmosphere. We highly recommend this hotel.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Bill2013 Always delights
One of most consistent Starwood hotels out there. Best recognition for platinum guests and a great location. Staff always remember you and go the extra mile to streamline your check-in or departure. I've probably logged over 1000 nights now in 8 years in many hotels, this property is one of the ones i'm always delighted to stay at.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Goodie63 Wonderful stay
It was perfect, however, the smell of laundry detergent? or softener? was very strong. As someone who appreciates no scent I always struggle with this aspect and will usually bring my own pillow. However, this time it was forgotten and so i ended up with signifcant sinus issues.. any chance of going scent free in your linens?

Rated 1 out of 5 by LM5975 Poor inefficient service
I travel frequently for conferences and have stayed in many hotels, not typically Westin. I experienced a number of problems with this hotel - I had asked for a cot to be placed in the room but the hotel staff wasn't aware of this when I checked in. The room had to be changed to a larger one to accommodate a cot. OK fine. But no cot was sent up and I had to call again to ask for the cot.
Room service - I had to call 3 times to get an item sent up. I've never experienced this at any other hotel.
Checking out - the hotel can't leave a copy of the invoice under your door for review prior to check out because the "doors are made soundproof and we wouldn't be able to slip it under the door". I was checking out at 5 AM and didn't have enough time to review the invoice. The person at the desk was not very courteous.
Invoice - I was actually charged for the cot - even though the reason for the cot was that no two double bed rooms were available. I've never been charged by a hotel for a cot. I called the hotel to inquire and the person stated she would take it off the bill and email me the revised invoice. I didn't receive the invoice and called again two days later. I was told it was sent to an email address that wasn't mine.
So overall, an atrocious level of service with recurrent errors, inefficiencies.
On the plus side, the food was good and the room was quiet.
But this hotel doesn't strive to make the stay relaxed or pleasant at all, and I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. The only other Westin I have stayed at was the one in Beijing and that was also a horrible experience. I would not book any Westin hotel in the future.

My second stay at the Westin Nova Scotian was better than I remembered. The staff are fantastic, the service is top-notch, and the room itself was clean, cozy, modern, and luxurious. I had two great sleeps, three great meals, and overall an incredible stay in Halifax. Thank you to the Westin for always exceeding my expectations!!!

Rated 3 out of 5 by Anci Below Westin reputation
Although the hotel was full with events - my room was not as reserved. We reserved 3 months early and called to confirm late check in. Did not have two beds as requested and windows did not open as advertised. My room had a huge fan outside and was very noisy. The bath had no shower cap. The staff were very pleasant and helpful.

Rated 3 out of 5 by csk1 A little run down for a Westin
Our room needed repairs. There were water stains on the ceiling (we were on the 10th floor), the window hardware was broken (so the window did not close properly and we were unable to lock it), the baseboard was pulled away from the wall or missing entirely in places. This was not the quality that I expected from a Westin.

I have to admit that I was a little dissapointed in our stay. Coming from the Westin Harboucastle to here, I did notice a difference. My wife and I were on our honeymoon and felt our experience was a little lackluster. Overall a nice hotel, did find the walls a little thin and could hear our neighbor on many occasions.

i expect the lobby to give good service, but Micheal at the Valet was te real winner. flight was late and kids haven't eaten yet. Micheal found us a restaurant that fit wit our food requirements (allergies) and for our kids (not a pub) and the place was great. made our stay memorable from the first minute.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Travellinman Super convenient
Great service and staff at this hotel are complimented by the excellent location and surrounding amenities at this property. Huge Superstore ( including NSLC) next door, Seaport Farmer's Market in the backyard and being the starting gate for the best waterfront boardwalk in the Region, makes it unbeatable.

Rated 4 out of 5 by CHAS51 A little disappointed.
I was very impressed with the overall cleanliness of the Westin. The entrance, lobby was quite elegant and representative of a Westin Hotel, however I found that the room we stayed in was just average and unattractive. I was also disappointed with the size/dept of the pool. as someone who swims for exercise it was too small and shallow for any kind of work out. We had room service and ordered a cheese platter from the menu which said "A selection of domestic and imported cheese with fruit and crackers" it was an excellent selection of cheese however they were huge chunks and we were very disappointed that the only fruit on the tray were blueberries.. With the wonderful fruit selection at the awesome breakfast brunch, I expected at least the regulars like grapes and apples. We also ordered the MOLtEN CAKE two scoops of oozing chocolate cake with chocolate sauce and fresh berries specifically because it said "2 Scoops" We ended up with one nice sized piece of cake that tasted stale. I will say that we were highly impressed with the Breakfast Brunch. The food was very plentiful with lots of variety and constantly monitored and refilled. The service/staff was excellent.

Rated 5 out of 5 by judytsr Excellent service and consistently friendly staff
I had read the positive reviews so we were looking forward to our stay, hoping for an upgrade to a suite with our platinum status. Discovered the hotel was booked with a convention and no upgrades were available until the 4th day of our 5 day stay. Our room was a corner room-- ok but crowded due to all our "stuff" for a 7-week road trip. The shower, unfortunately, barely functioned. After calls with the manager, we were upgraded to an amazing suite the next day that was truly spectacular. The manager, Jesse, personally moved us. We also enjoyed platinum perks of free parking, free internet, free delicious and abundant buffet breakfast, plus 25% off dining at dinner. All of the staff have an exceptionally friendly and conversational manner, whether it is "how is your day gong so far?" from housekeeping, to tips on where to visit in Cape Breton, from a wonderful waiter . Even the rain didn't dampen our spirits, as we loved feeling pampered in our room. Local dining and shopping were fun too-- but be sure to dine in the hotel restaurant for dinner-- exceptional! Thank you so very much for making our trip so enjoyable.

The Westin NS is always a great stay, perfect location and staff is great. The hot tub was more of a warmish tub, and the elevators are slow... Staff at booking, checkin, and check out we're a pleasure... Thanks

Rated 4 out of 5 by Rene The staff is accomodating
We had a great time staying at the Westin in our harbourfront room. The staff were willing to accomodate anything if we had any issues and they tried to do anything they could to help with bags, parking, etc. I would definatley reccomend this hotel to friends and family in the future.

Rated 3 out of 5 by NKAB Good hotel with convenient location
Hotel was conveniently located and the staff was very helpful. I would have expected the rooms to be bigger, but they were in the vicinity of New York standard sized room. Parking was pricy ($18 for self park) for Halifax standards. Overall a fair experience.

Rated 4 out of 5 by melrose Nice Intro to Halifax
My stay at the Westin Nova Scotian was a nice way to begin my very first trip to the Maritimes. All the staff were friendly and helpful and the building itself was sturdy enough not to blow away in the big wind that pounded relentlessly at it the night I was there.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Bill2013 One of the best for SPG Benefit recognition
For someone that travels 100 nights a year in hotels, its hard for a property to stand out to a platinum SPG customer. This one does. Great front desk service, great SPG recognition, great rooms, nice views, just an all round excellent (and consistent) experience. Keep it up.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Commguy01 A Cool Stay
I thoroughly enjoy the location however the hotel is in need of some updating. The room was clean however the temp controls were not functionning and the room was unduly cool. I'm aware in buildings of this vintage that those problems occur. Also no extra blankets in the room.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Sophieck Great location
I stay twice a month for business. Nice hotel in a great location and the staff are always very friendly and helpful. The restaurant and lounge both have great food, especially for a hotel, and the rooms are clean.
My only complaint is a consistent issue with the HVAC system in the rooms. Last stay the room was 90 degrees on the thermostat when I checked in. I called down and the girl told me to turn the temp. down and open the window and it would cool off in 30 minutes. Luckily I had dinner plans so didn'T have to stay in there. The window is so small it didn't do much. 3 hours later the room was still 80.
The previous stay, the heating system was broken and I slept in my bathrobe and socks because it was so cold. Each time there has been an issue. When I complain in the morning, I get a nice smile and apology and that's it. One more bad sleep and I will be forced to stay elsewhere which is a shame because the locale is great and I'm an SPG rewards member. But I need a good nights sleep when I travel so often.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Erica5 Terrible experience
Took over 30mins to reserve a room, only to find out 2 days later that it was never done, spent over an hour on the phone with a rep, and upon check-in the next day found that there was still a problem with my reservation and it took over 30mins only for them to tell me they could not do anything. My SPG account balance has disappeared, apparently transfered to someone else without my authority. The sink and shower backed-up. This while I was in the shower. And while sitting outside there were rats. This is actually the 2nd time I stayed at the Westin in Halifax and the first time I had the EXACT same experience and problems. I only stayed here a 2nd time because I was attending a conference. I spoke to the manager and he said he would give me 3000 extra points, and rectify my SPG account issue. Never happened. I am extremely disappointed with my experience and do not feel that the severity of the condictions were taken into consideration. I travel frequently and have never experienced such conditions - even in smaller chains.

Nice rooms, very comfortable, and great staff - very friendly and helpful! Great location to see Halifax - can walk out back door for a short walk to the boardwalk. Also, the market behind the hotel is great on weekends with lots of homemade food and other local finds.
