Rated 5 out of 5 by Ssb2014 Beautiful secluded place in St. John
First time in St. John - the island has tons of beautiful and peaceful beaches. It's great to come in August - no one is here! This island is an amazing experience, totally different than any other island. In St. John, you have to explore things on your own! The beaches are just 2 min away so get your jeep and enjoy it! Hose who like to run, please see the front desk at the Westin and ask for Ben for the most challenging 5K run by Great Cruz Bay!!!

We are owners who have been coming to the property since 2010, and we love it. We are excited about the changes being made to the property, the remodeling of different facilities has been great. Only comments I have: more umbrellas at the pool, since people sneak down early and "reserve" them with towels. New Lemongrass restaurant is great - would be better if there were about 5 more small plates, and perhaps a buffet night or two (see Westin Lagunamar in Cancun). Buy travel insurance if you travel during hurricane season. TS Bertha was a bit of an issue, hotel came through in the end.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Tee17 This hotel is undergoing renovations.
The Villas weren't completely up to my expectations. There was a problem with the a/c and the rooms had a musty smell. Housekeeping addressed the issue, but because the a/c wasn't working for more than a day, the rooms continued to smell musty. The manager compensated me with a monetary adjustment on my invoice, which I appreciated.
The service and staff were excellent and I enjoyed myself on the beaches around St. John. I will definitely return to St. John, hoping to experience different accommodations, using my SVO.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Wolfkane Friendlt staff and very relaxing
I would highly receommend this resort because it was clean, relaxing, staff was extrmely friendly. You must go to the Spa and get a massage from Aaron. By far the best massage my Fiance and I have ever received. Kenny and the rest of the staff were extremely pleasant and always looking to assist and recommend.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Bobbie14 Great until......
I spoke to one of your representatives today before I wrote this review, which would have been a 5 star if I wrote it on Friday as our stay was great, Saturday - Friday...Service was great, facilities were wonderful, food was great . Concierge was great on the initial meeting, however, when my brother who was a guest of mine wanted to make reservations for VI Ecotours, he was given the number and told to call himself to make the arrangements. He also wanted to arrange a fishing trip and when there weren't enough participants initially, my brother was given a number to call another guest (a stranger) to get enough people. The trip was eventually scheduled by the concierge, but the process was a little surprising to me.
However, as I said to your representative today, the way the hotel dealt with the Tropical Storm Bertha crisis and the closing of the ports was deplorable! We got phone messages on Friday that said the ports were closing at 10 PM due to the pending storm, but no further updates or direction on what to do. If we hadn't gone to the main lobby Saturday morning, we never would have known anything that was going on. Ports are closed, you can't leave the island, please contact your airlines, etc.would have helped. Staff at the front desk were pleasant but very stressed...their manager was in a meeting...hopefully it was about the storm, but whoever it was should have been up front with them handling guests.
We were told there were no rooms available to stay for Saturday, then told there may be a a 2 bedroom villa (I am an owner of a Bay Vista and had a party of 8) overnight for a reduced rate of $819 per night. The clerk was going to text me by noon...no text was ever received.
We were told they were very hopeful of the ports opening at 12, so like many other guests, we went down to the dock and waiting in the pouring rain for 2 hours or so. They even took our luggage on the boat. No update at 12, no update at 12:30. I realize that the delay was in hearing from the Coast Guard, but we basically sat in the dark as to the port situation for hours, without knowing that the airport was open, our flights were leaving etc. We were no longer checked in so we had no wi-fi access and couldn't get any information ourselves, so communication from the staff as to the St Thomas airport situation would have helped everyone with their decision making.
After 3 hours of standing in the rain, we were invited to dry off inside the Lemongrass, how nice that for $18 each we were able to get the tail end of the lunch buffet.
Finally the ports opened at 5:00 and we were told that we could stay and could get a room at the Westin,( although we were previously told that there were no rooms), or take the ferry to St Thomas. We chose the ferry not knowing that the flights went off as scheduled and that when we got there, we were not allowed to stay in the airport overnight, or that there were no hotels available in St Thomas! Again some communication from the Westin staff on St John would have helped in our (and a lot of other people's) decision making.
The young ladies at the Westin booth in the St Thomas airport were somewhat successful in getting us rooms, however, when we went to the location they had booked, we were told there were no rooms available and that the Westin was booking these rooms on line, without calling. The young lady at hotel told us she had called the Westin several times and told them they were fully booked, but they continued to book on line (system hadn't updated the availability yet) and send the people there. Again, a complete lack of communication after another hour and a half, and a $90 cab ride, we were able to get into a room (10:30 at night) that was under repair.
It appears to me that there was not very much thought to the contingency plan should the guests not be able to leave St John, a severe lack of communication among the staff themselves(carts of people continued to be brought down to the dock, despite the fact that the ports were not even open) and very little concern for the stress and anguish of the guests. I basically felt, "Oh well you checked out, too bad!" We were so thrilled with the facilities but this experience has put sever damper on our visit.
As for our guests, I don't think will ever want to visit this beautiful resort again, for as I am writing this they are, on Monday, 8/4, STILL trying to get home from St Thomas.
Again, I realize that the ports closing were a out of the Westin's control, but simple, honest and frequent communication would have gone a long way.

This place is under extensive construction prepare to hear noise as early as 8 am. The pool renovations that they discuss are only for the pool deck and bar - the pool is unchanged (i.e. no kids slide) and they took away the volleyball net. There are also no ocean toys as in the past trampoline and climbing wall. You also have to pay for the use of snorkel, mask and flippers $10 per day. The kids menu is nothing any kid I know would eat of off - how about a Cobb Salad??? No French fries, chicken fingers, or hot dogs here. But you can order off the adult menu for almost double the old price.
