Rated 4 out of 5 by Great location, good hotel Having spent 300 + nights in Starwood hotels, I have my fair share of experiences to compare to and this hotel falls into the "good" category. Great location, very good accommodations, good/inconsistent staff, poor food options/value. Pros: -Location, location, location. If you are in town to experience all that is New York, it's a great spot and convenient to much that NYC has to offer. -Room size & quality. Compared to many NYC hotels, this is a good size room…especially if upgraded, which i took advantage of with a confirmed suite night award…loved the extra space! Also had a high floor and didn't hear all the hustle of the city and had a phenomenal view. -Ease of getting to room. Always appreciate hotels when dedicated floors are attached to separate elevator shafts, so it was quick and easy to get to my despite them being busy -TV. Giant 60 inch TV in both the living room and bedroom Cons: -Staff friendliness. Not always the best in NYC anyways, but when checking in, the staff member took my card and ID and said "you requested an upgrade, I'll be right back," and went into the back with my card and ID?? I had a confirmed suite night award, not sure what was the issue -Outlets. As with most older hotels, lacked the accessibility to outlets by the bed without having to move the entire bed to plug something in to charge. -No Westin executive room. Heard it may have been removed to add space to or remodel the gym. Would've loved to have had one as the breakfast at Shula's in the lobby is overpriced (even considering NY standards) for what you get Overall, i'd recommend the hotel based on the above thoughts. Would suggest more for business travel and less for personal travel, but will travel to NYC in the future and will consider the Westin once again. April 15, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great location for visiting NYC SPG Status: Lifetime Gold Date of Stay: April 2014 Length of Stay: 4 nights Arrival Day: Thursday POSITIVES: Upgraded room- I reserved a Traditional King. I was upgraded approximately three weeks prior to arrival to a Deluxe Corner King which was a very nice size. View from room- We were on the 28th floor with a very nice view of the city skyline and the river. Check-in- When we arrived there were seven people in the dedicated SPG check-in line with two front desk agents working that line! I’ve never experienced a property that paid that much attention to the elite check-in line. The regular line had 15 in it with only one front desk agent working. Approximately three minutes after arrival another front desk agent appeared from the back and started working the regular line. Cleanliness of room- The room and bath were spotless. We requested that the room be cleaned during a specific period each day before we departed for the day. The room was always ready when we returned. Water temperature & pressure- Self-explanatory. In-room safe- Self-explanatory. Location- Great location and within walking distance of restaurants, bars, shopping and most Broadway theatres. Television- The room had a 47-inch HD TV which puts most hotel’s standard 32-inch sets to shame! A good selection of channels, all in HD, was also available. Availability of electrical outlets- There were three outlets available at the desk and additional outlets available by the nightstands. Internet speed- I opted for free high-speed internet for my Gold amenity and chose the 10 mbps higher speed option. The speed test delivered Ping 6ms, Download 10.21 mbps, Upload 10.07 mbps. Shula’s- The hotel’s dining options (other than room service) were Shula’s Steakhouse, Shula’s Bar 10, and Shula’s No Name Bar (attached to steakhouse). Drinks at Shula’s No Name Bar were excellent as was the food, service and wine selection at Shula’s Steakhouse. Breakfast service and offerings at Shula’s were very good. Each time we returned to Shula’s we were made to feel very welcome. NEUTRAL: Heavenly® Bath- The room and bath had recently been renovated and what apparently is the new Westin Heavenly® Bath shower heads were in the shower. This consisted of a rain shower head with a hand-held shower head. NEGATIVES: Guest room chair- Truly only one negative. The guest room chair must have been re-purposed from the previous rooms as the stuffing was coming out of the chair cushion in two locations. Overall, this was an excellent stay and I will definitely return to The Westin New York at Times Square again. April 15, 2014

Rated 2 out of 5 by Platinum Status Meaningless Suite night upgrade confirmed and then not honored without notice; arrived to find family of 3 assigned to a room with one bed; took several phone calls to obtain a room with two beds; reassigned to suite on Day 2, promised a fold-out couch and luggage transfer; returned to hotel at 11 PM to emply room with ONE BED and no luggage; rollaway bed brought to room instead; first two nights of a five night stay were entirely unenjoyable; management offered 3,000 points and some chocolate for the inconvenience; really did not feel cared for or appreciated at this hotel; unlikely to return for business or pleasure. Rated 3 out of 5 by Poor Customer Service I love SPG hotels and use them frequently but for this visit the service was horrible. I arrived on Thursday morning at 11AM and was told that my room would not be available until 3pm and they would call me once it was ready. I walked around the city waiting for a call but never got one. Because I did not receive a call I did not return until 5pm where I was told that my room was ready as promised at 3 but I never received a call. So essentially I walked around for 2 additional hours after a long flight for nothing. A day later I called and requested a pair of scissors to cut a tag off of a garment and I was told someone would be bring up the scissors shortly. After an hour I called back and was told that I would have to come down to get the scissors since it would be against policy to have them delivered. Again, I was told something would be done and it wasn't. When we receive wrong information it affects how we plan, I waited for an hour when it wasn't necessary and I had tickets to a show. My third complaint was not receiving a copy of my bill under my door. I requested this as I always do at check-in and I never received the bill. I then called the front desk and requested it again but it was never delivered. What makes a hotel outstanding to me is recognizing the value of your customers time, being consistent and knowledgeable and recognizing I rely on the staff to make my stay more enjoyable and this did not happen on this visit. Everyone else, bellmen, housekeeping, etc. were wonderful but the in-room service was horrible. It appeared as if no one knew what they were doing. Not a good stay. April 7, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by The hotel accomodations and staff were fantastic I spent a week at this hotel with my wife and kids and the experience was incredible. The staff was always courteous and responsive and by the end of the week my family and I were treated like family. I not only recommend the hotel, I am setting my parents up with a 3 day stay in May, this hotel is worth it. April 4, 2014
