Rated 5 out of 5 by Peter27 Wonder stay despite the weather
Great family vacation at this Westin despite the weather.
The pools were great! The water was warm and we all had fun despite the weather. We did read the reviews about the expensive prices for food and drink. This is true but you could get all you want within walking distance and we had a fridge in the room.
Also, the beach was wonderful. We had two days of sun and even played in the surf during overcast days.
The room was wonderful. Totally recommend a suite for a family of four.
The staff was extremely friendly.
We all hope to go back.

Rated 4 out of 5 by tmills91 Very big but also very good.
This property is massive but offers a good value compared to W and St. Regis. With that said this is a conference hotel and has the feeling of always being crowded. Food at hotel was pretty good but for vacationers be aware that you're not walking to another restaurant. Everything is a drive and traffic is pretty bad. Obviously that's not the hotels fault but if you're coming w the family be prepared. Beach is calm during low tide but during high tide don't expect much...maybe 10 to 15 feet tops.

Visited this property in 2012 with the family and loved it. Came back here again in 2013 and is has been a disappointment after disappointment. Honestly, I wish I can say otherwise, but the staff needs to appreciate customers especially their Platinum members. Anyhow, we'll be going back to the W Fort Lauderdale for our beach holiday next year where we spent several pleasant stays in the past.

I surprised my husband with a night at the Diplomat for our anniversary and the staff was amazing. They sent up Champagne and fruit and desserts for dinner! Thank you!

Second time here for a vacation. Love the beach location sooooo much and really enjoy the nice view from the balcony.
Hotel was kinda crowded during thanksgiving period with families, however every staff is just friendly as usual. Front desk is very helpful and is able to give us any information we want.
Only suggestion maybe just put more chairs in the business lounge. Kinda hard to find a seat during breakfast peak hours.

Recently we spent 2 days at this hotel after we got off our cruise in Miami. We checked in around 11:30am and were told our room was unavailable - totally understandable. The desk person took my information provided us with a key to the executive lounge so we can wait - so far so good. After about 2 hours I went down and asked about the status of the room, and was told the person in my room hasn't checked out yet, was going to do so at 2pm and she will get the housecleaning staff to work on the room as soon as possible. After not hearing back, I checked again at 4pm and was told the prior guest was still in the room. I asked the manager why someone didn't just call me (they know I was in the lounge and had my cell phone number) so I know the status so we can spend the time doing something else (like have some drinks by the pool, walk around the beach), but the manager didn't have an answer and didn't really apologize. He did offer to give me a similar room in a slightly lower level, which I took, and then I told him that should have been offered to me when I inquired at 2. Once again, no answer and no real apology - hardly a way to treat a SPG Platinum guest. I think things started off right, but when the prior guest kept delaying checkout - the staff obviously is not trained to follow up and take care of guests - which is pretty poor for a supposedly customer-centric business.
The room and hotel's public facilities and pools are very nice. We were in a high floor ocean view suite and enjoyed it. The hotel is a bit isolated if you don't have a car, and the fare offered by the sports bar and the sushi/bar that's part of the hotel was mediocre. The pool side cafe did offer good drinks and food. I think if the hotel improved the quality of its food offerings it would have a much better business at its dining establishments.

The Westin Diplomat at Hallandale Beach is a beautiful facility. The staff is completely capable and usually cordial. It is an idyllic albeit isolated location with no shopping or outside restaurants within an easy walk. While I attended a conference my wife felt quite isolated. Taxi prices in the area are high. The telephone system in the hotel is archaic and, for the room price, charging a "minimal" $12.95 for slow WIFI is a crime. I will recommend that my association find another location to hold its annual conference.
