The Westin is an example of a good Asia hotel. The service from the staff overall was very good and the stay was pleasant.
I have stayed at this hotel 5 times since 2009 and generally always stay here when travelling for leisure. However, unlike other Starwood properties, there has never been any recognition of previous stays and "Gold' treatment that I have acheived at other properties. Not a big issue obviously, and it would not stop me staying again, but the little things do count when comparing Starwood to Starwood!
The Club Floor Rooms are very good, nice size with a good size TV. The Executive Club service is excellent and the selction of food and beverage is on par with other properties.
The Buffet Breakfast on level 7 has one of the best selections of properties in the region.
Whilst it is not down on the "River" with many of the other hotels, I think that this is an advantage. The selection of restaurants, ease of transportation and shopping establishments all within walking/short sky train ride make this location an excellent choice.
The upgraded pool area is very nice now, but there is a lack of shade for people not wishing to "roast" themselves.
Overall, a good hotel in a good location.

Few days before check in, a Westin Experience Specialist contacted me via email to see if I needed anything during my stay, which was a great touch. I did ask them to see my suite upgrades would be confirmed. On the day of arrival, the upgrade was confirmed. I love the fact that SPG Platinum Guest can now dine at Taste for breakfast instead of the lounge. The service at Taste is not perfect, nobody came to take the plates away when I dined there on a Sunday morning. Not sure what happened there.
I did have issues with WIFI and phone service, which the staff was very helpful with the resolution. I think the hotel needs to do something about the WIFI and log in system. The unique user name and password for each device is a pain to manage. The system regularly disconnect s my devices and the device needs to manually logged back in. Too bad that the 1st floor waiting area is not WIFI enabled. I had to call the operator on many occasions to ask to have an “outside” phone line access. The first few calls were made with the operator’s assistance. The public area was a bit hotter than I would of like, so hopefully management can also address it.
The location is very convenient, next to Terminal 21 and steps away from the BTS Asoke. I have been staying here more and more because of the location and the room rate is quite competitive. Staff aimed to please (except for the dining room wait staff during breakfast) and friendly. Overall, I enjoyed this trip and hopefully can continue this feeling in the future.

Although I've been visiting Bangkok since 1981, I had never stayed at the Westin. However, on this trip, I needed to be in the Sukhumvit area, so I thought I'd give it a try. The location, adjacent to the new Terminal 21 shopping mall, as well as a stone's throw from both the BTS & MRT, can't be beat. Being an SPG Platinum member, I was, upon arrival, whisked up to the club lounge for check in. The lounge ladies were exceedingly gracious and professional. I was offered a lovely one-bedroom suite, but declined the offer as it was situated directly above the Asoke BTS station. As I had flown all night, I preferred quiet over space. I was then offered a regular room on an executive floor, which I took. The room, which was a good size and well appointed in Westin's signature earth tones, looked like it had been recently renovated. As always, the Heavenly Bed was heavenly, but I wish there had been a comfortable easy chair as I find the divan provided uncomfortable. The only option was to sit on the desk chair. The club lounge offered an evening happy hour and continental breakfast. Both provided excellent fare including vegetarian selections, which I appreciate. The gym and pool looked inviting although, unfortunately, I didn't have time to use them. All in all, a great stay!!

Once upon a time, I virtually lived at this hotel in Bangkok. However, the love for the relationship started to go, I began to see other properties in Bangkok, and before I knew it, the Westin wasn't even a consideration.
Nostalgia and the need to be in this part of town, made me come back today.
Like dating an old girlfriend again, you quickly realize why you broke up. Although she is familiar, there were so many things wrong.
In the Westin's case, no Kids Club, although advertised, it only exists on Sundays during the buffet. So many fixtures in the room were broken, or in poor repair.. ie lights in living room tied to bedroom so you have all or nothing. Not great for putting a child to bed, and wanting to still be awake. Bathtub wouldn't drain, fixtures broken. "Repaired " twice while we were here, still broken. Tub stained too, and grouted is missing, chipped.. just really unattractive. The heavenly bed in the room was so old it sagged in the middle.
Additonally, the pool has been redone, and has a wood deck that is incredibly slippery when your feet our wet, our child holding my hand and walking slipped twice.
On the positive side, some of the staff still remember me, and the service is very good.
As is the SPG Platinum recognition.
Location great, soft product (staff) great, actual room was average at best.

I love Starwood hotels, so it's no surprise that I think many of them are very good. I only have one favourite hotel, though, and that's the Westin Grande Sukhumvit in Bangkok. Their personal service, and the way they make their guests feel at home, are second to none.
I have stayed in this hotel many times over the last ten years. It is well located, near the corner of Asoke and Sukhumvit, where the Skytrain and the subway meet. Recently, the location has improved, with the completion of the Terminal 21 Shopping Complex next door. Add to that a large park - Benjakitti Park - and the Queen Sirikit Convention Center, plus many other advantages to being at this location.
And like all Westins, this hotel has the high level of amenities that business travelers need - the great beds, work spaces, restaurants and bars, etc. The spa and pool area is exceptional, including recent renovations to a pool area that was already very good.
But many Starwood hotels have all these things. What stands out at this hotel is that the staff go out of their way to make you feel at home.
Perhaps the best example of that is the executive lounge. (This is a hotel in which getting on the club floor is a very good decision.) The unfailingly friendly and competent staff of the lounge make you feel, minute by minute, as if you are a guest in their home, and all they can think of is to make you happy.
It's not just the executive lounge where you see stand-out service. At the restaurants, in the pool area, at the concierge desk, and in the housekeeping team, that same desire to make you comfortable and happy prevails.
There are lots of very good Starwood hotels. To be the best is not easy. The Westin Grande Sukhumvit gets my highest recommendation.

Could improve on the Interior Architecture. We stayed in a five star hotel at Bangkok for 7 nights (Super Duper Stay) prior to 5 nights here. We booked two rooms. Paid more than the previous hotel rates. Problems accommodating wheelchair senior citizen as they have only one room for them and this was booked by another individual. Door access was poor as it does not open clear enough for a wheelchair(wc). One has to push the wc through with scrapes on either side though we were careful. Shower door opens only till approx 65 or 70 degrees. A wc bound person with a walker cannot access. The main bathroom area has no floor trap so any water spill from the bath tub - well you have to clean it yourself , if not the whole space gets flooded. I mean you could have a fish tank in few minutes. All bathrooms have the same problem. The upstand at the bathroom shower does not allow for water form the main area to go through. Shower doors were without the plastic edging. So any shower water whilst showering went out. No hand held shower in the main shower enclosure except in the bath tub. The interior was extremely tacky with greyish mosaic tiles. Beds not comfortable. Only one loose luggage rack for one bag. The others you have to place on floor. No other space for small bags. There is s study table though. I think this hotel has been refurbished and has not been originally designed to meet good hotel interior standard. I am positive there are better hotels under this brand. Good access to the BTS Asoke. Meanwhile this is our experience. Staff were good and hospitable. Did a good cleaning job, efficient in responses except for the taxi booking to airport on the last day. Confirmed at 11.30 am morning and updated for 12.30 afternoon. Advised the conceirge to ensure the taxi driver was informed on change in timings. Our documentation was updated,However the taxi driver was not informed and we had some issues at the airport as the Taxi driver had claimed that he had lost a ferry due to our delay. Its just the room usage was quite unappealling and as such daily stay was not pleasant.

Usually we stay once a year on our way back at The Westin Grande Sukhumvit for a day or two. We always liked the style of the hotel, the convenient location and the services at the well managed Executive Lounge. However things seem to have changed.
Some of the original furniture has been replaced or at least the fabric was changed - unfortunately it no longer resembles the original style and design.
Upgrades have always been an issue and it seems that at this property, other than elsewhere, rooms are not pre-assigned to status customers. Usually the initial assignment is an upgrade to a higher category but not to the "best available room incl. standard suites". This time we were initially offered a corner room next to the BTS tracks with the respective noise with every train passing, and the smell of cold smoke, though it was a non smoking room.
No welcome letter whatsoever and the courtesy fruit basket is stripped down to a plate with 2 bananas.
Other than on previous stays the service staff at the Executive Lounge did not speak english and had to check back with the single receptionist. Food offer is limited but of good quality. Our standard Campari Orange for Happy Hour is no longer available and choice limited to wine, beer, whisky, gin and vodka.
During our stay the pool was closed for maintenance and guests invited to the pool of the sister property across the street. Nothing against that, however other properties would have arranged for a drink voucher or whatever to make up for the inconvenience.
When we left for dinner their was nobody to assist in getting a taxi. The bell staff was away for a moment and though several hotel staff were around waiting for somebody to arrive, none of them took initiative.
When checking out at the main reception desk, staff seemed tired and disinterested. Not even the standard question whether one had a pleasant stay or to wish for a good flight.
All in all unfortunately no longer the hotel we liked and were always happy to return to. It seems little details, but not only that they make the difference, it runs like a red thread through the whole chain of experience.
