Rated 4 out of 5 by Great Weekend Stay My wife and I were recently looking for an easy weekend trip to take so that we could build up a couple of nights towards Starwood elite status for next year, and the combination of a relatively easy driving distance to Washington, DC and an outstanding rate of $90/night at The Westin Arlington Gateway made the decision an easy one. We love visiting DC, and we also generally love Westin properties, so this was a no-brainer. The hotel is located fairly centrally in Arlington, just around the corner from Ballston Commons mall and a short, five minute walk to the Ballston Metro station. We use Metro frequently to get around in DC, so having a station close by was a real plus. There are also several restaurants and bars within a close walking distance to the hotel as well, so if you’re here to visit Arlington and not Washington, there’s still no shortage of places to eat and drink nearby. We arrived around 5:45pm on a Friday afternoon. The hotel does not offer a self-park option and only offers valet parking, so we were stuck waiting behind a few other cars in the valet line to park. Fortunately, the valets were moving fairly efficiently, and our wait was not excessive. We were staying in a two double room, which had all of the amenities one would expect from a hotel of this caliber. The room was clean and well appointed. My wife loves the Westin bath amenities and the rainfall shower heads, and we’re both fans of the Westin beds, among our favorites of any hotels we travel to. One area for improvement comes on the room service menu. We spent most of our time away from the hotel, but when the wife decided she wanted some late night dessert one night, she looked to room service. Unfortunately, she has a severe tree nut allergy, and all four of the offerings on the menu contained tree nuts. A couple of the items didn’t mention nuts, and she had actually placed an order for one of those items before getting a call back saying that upon further checking, that item actually contained nuts as well. Props to the hotel staff for double-checking on the item to prevent a major allergic reaction problem for us, but it was disappointing for her to have to settle for just ice cream when what she really wanted was something else. While we had a fine experience with the valet upon arrival, we were delayed on departure. Called down about ten minutes before we went downstairs to ask to have the car pulled around, and unfortunately it was not there when we arrived downstairs ten minutes later. In fact, I’m pretty sure I saw the valet manager hand the key to another valet attendant once we got down there, which was very disappointing given that there was only one other car pulling in at the time that we were departing (around 4pm). Overall, our interactions with staff members at the hotel were very friendly and accommodating. In conclusion, despite the minor hiccups and areas for improvement, we really had a great stay here. A great central location with proximity to transportation, friendly staff, and clean, well-kept property would definitely lead us to look to The Westin Arlington Gateway again on future visits to the DC metro area. Rated 1 out of 5 by Lots of Potential My colleagues and I stayed for 3 nights as part of a business trip to the DC area. The rooms smelled of cigarette smoke as well as one of the main elevators. After notifying the staff they took no action at all and the issue was unresolved. On the last night of the stay the entire floor I was staying on smelled of sewage (disgusting). Again after notifying staff there was nothing done, and the problem only got worse throughout the evening. The staff didn't seem to care and offered nothing in return for the inconvenience. For the cost of the hotel room you'd expect a lot more. Plenty of potential here, but overall poor customer service. March 12, 2016
Rated 1 out of 5 by Bad Experience Management, I have stayed at your hotel a few times in the past, but I very unlikely to stay with you again. I was in room 742, there were a few issues with my room: 1. The room smelled of stale cigarette smoke 2. The handle in the shower came off in my hand when I tried to turn on the shower 3. There were no face cloths in the bathroom My employees were staying in 2 separate rooms on the third floor and they had issues as well: 1. Their first night, the hallways and their room smelled of chlorine. 2. Tuesday we returned from our meetings and the hallway and their rooms stunk of sewage Each of us went to the front desk to express our concerns, we were told they would be addressed, but nothing was ever done. I have always enjoyed my stay at Westin hotels, but this experience has me considering other options. March 10, 2016
Rated 3 out of 5 by Perfectly decent A perfectly good hotel, particularly if your visit is centered around Arlington, and you want to find a good deal. I loved the room and the bed, and it was right close to the Ballston metro station, though keep in mind the metro runs infrequently on weekends. Service was mediocre. The check in process was slow and no staffers jumped in to tend to those of us waiting to check in while one customer had an extra-long checkin process. The water in the shower was tepid rather than hot, and there wasn't a lot of water pressure. This is pretty much a solid, functional hotel when you're traveling on business and a nice step above "budget" options. March 6, 2016
Rated 4 out of 5 by Careful with clerical errors The hotel is ok, what was expected from reviews. The staff was pleasant and polite. The problems surfaced upon reviewing my CC statement. They overcharged for the room, and as an added "plus" they charged my CC 2 weeks later for other persons stay ? If you go to this place double check your card statements even a few weeks later since surprises may take place! January 28, 2016
Rated 3 out of 5 by constant problems here Every time I stay there is some problem...Ice machine on floor not working, noisy room, weak water pressure, food delivered without utensils. This time I found dirty clothes from a prior guest under my bed. Clearly room wasnt cleaned properly. January 13, 2016
