Rated 1 out of 5 by Campos64 Dirty Room, Uncomfortable Beds, Poor Valet
When I was beginning to get my stuff ready for check out, I do my scan for looking around the room for any items I may leave behind. I noticed under the bed there was a used condom and wrapper. Gross! Then I asked the front desk to get my car from valet after checking out and they said to find the man on the street. There wasn’t one working and it took 35mins to locate someone to find my car. It was inconvenient for my friend waiting at a table for lunch for a half hour. After a two day stay my friend and mine backs ached from the bed being way too squishy. I’m not sure if I’d stay at another Westin after this Uncleanly, Uncomfortable, and Inconvenient stay!

We rented two connecting rooms. The rooms were comfortable and clean. My wife and I stayed in a King Bedroom, and our kids stays in a Double. We came to visit DC and see the sights. It is a very quick 10 minute ride to DC.
I have seen complaints about the parking cost, but we were able obtain a free parking pass from the Alexandria Visitors Office and just parked on the street within a 100-200 feet of the hotel entrance. It was actually cheaper and quicker for us to drive into DC and pay for parking than take the Metro.
Overall, I believe the 3.8 hotel rating does not do the hotel justice, its deserves a higher rating.

Rated 2 out of 5 by nly9 Overcharged & dishonest staff
I booked a club room with parking included. When I checked in my club level room had not been inspected yet this was after 6 pm so the associate put me on another floor and said it was the other club level. I've been to enough Starwood properties to know what club levels are and when and associate just flat out lied to me. When I checked out I was charged for parking and rather than be rude and hold up a line of several hotel guest also trying to check out I have emailed Westin about the issue. The location is good for my business travel but I will sacrifice location for good customer service and honest hotel staff.

My first stay @ this property, stayed @ other Westin's.
Like: located in beautiful area, rooms are big & comfortable, staff are friendly, helpful (Robin & Vanessa) were great.
Overall, hotel is great.
Power Outage one night, handled great by night staff.
Not great/need improvement: not acknowledged as SPG Member, I had to ask about my "gold" benefits. Parking was included, but was told to park on street when I came back late. An event was held @ hotel, not enough valet to accommodate hotel guests & event attendees. Asked for my car, valet was rude, too busy to listen to me, had to ask front desk to call for car.
Suggestion: remember to inform guests about there benefits. Be aware of rates & whats included.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Clerikka Great Location. Shuttle service is AWESOME!
Just completed my stay. Staff was very friendly. The guy that ran the shuttle was prompt and very polite. Room was very comfortable. Bed was perfect. The only ding I have to give is for the toilet paper. May sound petty...but how do you have "Heavenly Showers" and "Heavenly Beds" then have cheap, rough, 1-ply tissue? It just doesn't seem to match with WESTIN standards. Maybe it is for enviornmental reasons? Also, if the hotel restaurant is closed for reno, you should not be charging guests the additional fees associated with room service to eat in the temporary facility. Room service food is expensive enough. Luckily the hotel is in walking distance of nice restaurants.

I have stayed at this property all year long, approximately 50 nights. I keep going back because of the excellent customer service, especially the service provided by Joyce and Angelica in the Club Lounge. Simply put, these two ladies take pride in their work and they make me feel at home when I am away from home. Only thing I would change is the water pressure in the bathroom sinks. It is very low which makes it hard to use.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Jeff14 Restaurant hours
I stay at the hotel every time I go to meetings at the US Patent Office. However, it is very disappointing that the restaurant and bar close at 11 pm. Coming from the west coast I frequently arrive after 10 pm and am hungry. I was barely able order a quick salad before last call, and even if you get your order in, they kick everyone out at 11. Most hotels of this caliber have restaurants or bars open late to accommodate the many travelers arriving late (not to mention the locals). Even if the main restaurant must close, at least keep the bar open until midnight with a limited menu.

I don't know if it was a clock tower gone awry somewhere nearby or something in the hotel itself, but there was a gong that sounded every five minutes without fail all night long (three gongs every five minutes). Tried to get breakfast in the hotel restaurant but the employees were so busy with their conversations with each other that they could not serve the guests. A family with two children also got up and walked out complaining about the terrible service in the hotel. The meeting I was attending was a disaster because of failures on the part of the hotel to have contracted services prepared and working.

Rated 5 out of 5 by WeekendWithWheelChair Extended weekend visitor with wheel chair
I stayed for a Thursday thru Monday along with a wheel chair bound friend and was pleased the entire time. The staff is the hotel's finest asset as they were always anxious to be helpful and congenial. The pool had just the right water temperature (not cool but not bath water either) along with a comfortably warm pool room. There was also a motorized lift for both the pool and the hot tub which was operated easily by the life guard after I helped my friend from the wheel chair into the pool lift seat. It would have been better to have a larger pool, so we were a little disappointed by it's small size.

From the time I arrived at the Westin, I was treated well, staff called me by name and remembered me. Special recognition to Ron who worked at the desk for going out of his way to direct me to locations I wanted to visit in the city. If I return to that location, I will certainly stay there again.

Pool was available for only a few hours a day. I couldn't get my swim in before my meeting at 9am. Room was comfortable until... On the one hand it was good to have the option to reuse sheets & towels another day, on another hand agreeing to not replacing sheets & towels also meant that the trash is not picked up and that soap & shampoo is not replenished. After 3 nights, the room was overwhelmed with trash and smelled stale. I also received a charge to my credit card after the first night for an amount significantly greater than the cost incurred for one night. Still trying to figure out the bill.

Rated 4 out of 5 by sctraveler45 Best deal in DC area
I recently stayed at the Westin Alexandria from 1/2-1/5 this year. This was my second time staying here. I had come once before on business and was impressed enough to stay again.
The Hotel is clean, and is ideally located, as it is near Old Town Alexandria, and close to the Metro Station so access to DC is simple.
I was somewhat disappointed in the amenities, as the gift shop was open for less than an hour over 3 days, and there were no vending machines, forcing me to purchase water and sodas through room service at an average of $7.50 apiece.
But other than that, I had a great experience.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Montel2 One night stay
Overall, the staff was excellent, courteous and very attentive. My wife and I were there for my employers Holiday Party and chose to stay overnight. The room was very clean and well appointed.
Two things disappointed us: The food served to us in the ballroom was bland and in our room, the phone on the desk did not work.

Rated 5 out of 5 by jrgreen wonderful home away from home
Visiting D.C for a few days we chose a hotel close by. The Westin Alexandria was a wonderful choice. The staff very courteous and friendly. The Trademark restaurant was incredible with lots choices, and a kids menu big plus for us. Took a dip in the heated pool and worked out in the gym, which was very clean, and offered everything you could imagine. We loved everything about our stay..wish I could of stayed longer. I only wished I had asked what the wonderful fragrance was I smelled in the lobby ..it was delightful. I definitely hope I have the pleasure of staying again. 5 stars!!

My husband and I visit the DC/northern VA area several times a year, and we always try to stay at the Westin Alexandria. It is a lovely, comfortable, well maintained hotel with an accommodating staff. The location is convenient to the DC beltway, metro and Old Town Alexandria. And normally the price is quite reasonable for the value.
What more could you ask for?

Rated 3 out of 5 by Lynn Your Green Program
I would like to suggest that you explain the Green Program to your guests when they check in. I would not expect a Green Program to mean that I receive no services while I am a guest. Not having my bed made or the bathroom cleaned is not green; that is a cost cutting measure for the hotel and adds to your bottom line, but does not do anything for the environment. This was not made clear to me at check-in. I heard several people in my group also mention the same thing. For the price of the rooms, I expect maid service and to have the bathroom amenities replenished when empty.

Rated 2 out of 5 by BusinessTraveler08 Great Hotel / Disappointing Service
The hotel is absolutely lovely. It is clean and smells wonderful. The first night I arrived, everyone from the front desk to the valet was great. However, I ran into issues the following day. Issue #1 - Me and my co-workers took the hotel shuttle to work. Most of the group had bags and heels on. The morning driver had a horrific attitude. He behaved as though we were an inconvenience. It was obvious that he did not want to serve us. He did not, once, offer to help us with bags. It was obvious that we would have appreciated the offer. I reported this issue to the front desk. Keven was very gracious and gave us breakfast vouchers to make up for the terrible service. Issue #2 - I called, from my room, to have valet pull my car up to the front of the hotel. Per the front desk associate, Rachel, it would be there within 10-15 minutes. I went downstairs with 3 co-workers and waited....and waited...and waited. At almost 35 minutes, my co-worker approached the valet. Guess what - They had no idea that my car was to be waiting for me. They did not have the ticket prepared or the keys ready. They just found out when my co-worker mentioned it. When that happened, my car was pulled up immediately. I shared this negative experience with the front desk associate, Ronald. He said he would forward the issue to the Director. I never heard from management about this. Ronald was very accommodating and did what he could to resolve the issue. His service was great. However, management should follow up on those kinds of issues. I should not have waited 35 minutes because the hotel did not communicate with valet. I had somewhere to be and couldn't meet obligations because the hotel staff was negligible. I would not ever stay at this hotel again; nor would I recommend anyone else. The hotel is beautiful; but the issues were not worth the trouble. If your customers run into issues, it is vital that management follow up to provide for a better experience. The front desk associates seemed to care; but management did not. Service is critical in an industry where there is so much competition. My expectations were high. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed. During my next visit to Alexandria, I will be sure to stay somewhere else.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Brad1000000 Great hotel
No complaints here; I was a little leery about staying here after ready some of the reviews. This is a virtually new Westin, and all of my SPG expectations were exceeded, but I'd recommend parking on the street (free at night) to avoid outrageous garage fees. Better yet, take the Metro, which has a convenient stop nearby. Platinum provides breakfast in the hotel restaurant, which would otherwise be very, very expensive. Can't complain about "free", but it was very good to boot. Fitness facilities and pool are very nice, too. Didn't use club lounge as it's closed on weekends.

Rated 3 out of 5 by LA522 Penny wise and pound foolish
It is a crime that for a room over $200 a night you cannot print a peice of paper or access the internet without paying a minumum of $7.50 plus ten cents per page. That was such a turn off that I would never stay there again.

Rated 4 out of 5 by elaine74 Great service/room, appropriate pricing
The staff was fantastic. Jay, the concierge, was more than accommodating and helpful. The bed was very comfortable and the room was very clean. The location of the hotel was much more convenient than I expected. The valet service, while convenient, was my only option. My only gripe about my stay was the lack of parking available. I could not find a place to keep my car overnight, so I had to use valet parking for an additional, unexpected charge. That should be noted before reserving a room. I would, however, stay there again. The pool/jacuzzi could use an update as well.

My husband and I fled our unheated house after the hurricane to stay at the Westin in Alexandria. They were flexible about our check out -- which was appreciated. Room was as expected and the gym was really good. We appreciated the jacuzzi. They were still working the kinks out of the new restaurant format and there aren't too many healthy choices -- but that's quibbling with so many great places to eat on King Street. The location isn't the best for tourists -- but perfect for people with business with the US Trademark and Patent Office, which engulfs the neighborhood.

This was my first stay at an SPG hotel as a platinum preferred member so I was very excited. Upon arrival they asked what "gift" i wanted, so I selected the nuts and apple cider.....this was never delivered to me. The first room given to me was filthy, wine glasses with lip stick marks, food contains all over and the bed undone. This was fixed within five minutes and I was given a room on the same floor of the same standard. The hotel was beautiful but the service was not what I was expecting as a platinum member.

When we arrived at the Westin after a long drive we felt very comfortable when we arrived. The atmosphere and the help just made us feel very welcomed! John at the desk was very courteous and helpful while we waited for a room to be ready. While we were waiting we went to the bar and was greeted with a warm welcoming smile from Wanda! Wanda was very nice and did everything she could to make our stay a pleasant one! Wanda was helpful in giving us any information we needed about the hotel and the local area! The Westin is very fortunate to have an employee like Wanda!!

I was disappointed; My room was in need of repair a large picture had been removed but the fasteners were left and no attempt to clean the wall was made. I could understand the bar and resturant was closed for repairs but the temporary breakfast and bar needed help. I went in the first morning and found a buffet I asked if I could have 2 scrambled eggs the hostess said yes I had 2 eggs butr was charged for the buffet. $16 + $3.96 Service charge + tax I asked and she said I could eat all I wanted but I had to pay for the whole buffet? I was not satisfied but left.

Rated 1 out of 5 by joey427 Nice place great location TERRIBLE SERVICE
No vending machines in the hotel (walk two blocks to 7-11 at 11:30pm for something cold to drink, or order room service). Not enough towels (you get two). Ask for more and you get the towels but you also DON'T get your coffee bar restocked, your bath mat reserviced(don't know how they cleaned the bathroom floor) or the ice bucket and water reserviced. Ask the front desk if they can help and the bath mat or ice and water are still not reserviced and the coffee bar supplies just thrown in a bag on the dresser. But they "are so sorry and will take care of it."

The hotel was very clean and comfortable and the staff was exceptionally helpful. There was never a time when I needed something that they did not jump at the chance to accommodate me immediately. The only thing negative I would say was that I thought the food and drink were a bit pricey, but at least it was good!

This is a great hotel. It is conveniently located, close to King St. and the Amtrak and Metro Stations. You do not need a car to move around. The hotel shuttle service is their best feature. The room was comfortable and very cleaned. I received an upgrade to the Executive Level but because the lounge was not open that weekend, the staff compensated me with free breakfast for two days. The exercise room and pool area, although small, were nice and comfortable. The front desk staff were very efficient and attentive to my needs and requests.
