Rated 3 out of 5 by Thrival Good standard Westin with some perks
I am a regular Westin guest across the U.S. This Westin is average as far as the Westin family goes as it's showing its age although the upgraded shower with two heads was phenomenal and I loved it. The fitness center/pool was closed which was a big bummer for me but the hotel includes a lovely 1.5 mile walk/run trail in the hotel area around a lake which I used instead. 1st room I checked into smelled like smoke and they quickly moved me to another room on the same floor even though it was midnight. Restaurant service (Shule's) was excellent and super courteous - way above the norm. I only had two salads not a main course. One was excellent, one was mediocre. Power went out for a few hours due to a wind storm so only lights on in the hotel were the main hall/lobby area. Rooms were pitch dark. Interestingly enough this is the second Westin I've stayed at that has been out of power for an extended period of time in the last 12 months so I actually travel with 12 hour light sticks just in case and it sure came in handy this trip or I would have been blind in my room. Hotel staff was lovely and helpful. Parking was easy and close. Bed was typical comfy Westin quality so I slept well. Room had a cool box which was great and I love the option to not have the room cleaned and instead your get points or Starbucks card. Nice touch. Also two bottles of water awaited me for free (paying for water is a pet peeve of mine when I'm paying $200+ a night for a room)...

Nice hotel. Upon arrival there was a prom in the atrium. It was very loud but the attendees soon were moved to a ballroom. The second night there was a wedding. Check ahead of time if this is something that would bother you. The noise wasn't bad. The hotel is easy to locate and parking was abundant. The room service is very good. We enjoyed our food and it arrived quickly. Best room service we have had in years. Have to agree with a fellow reviewer regarding temperature issues. We could never quite get the room cool enough to our liking. The gift shop was very nice as well. We usually stay in Chicago when we visit but all the hotels we usually stay at were booked. I am glad we decided to stay here. It was peaceful and enjoyable even with big events going on. The 11th floor has some great views and the grounds were lovely. The biggest complaint was a cold pool and a pool that closes at 9pm, the hot tub wasn't working and our room keys didn't work very well even after having them re-done. The bellman stated the keys were usually an issue. When the staff can't get them to work it's an ongoing issue that needs fixed. Upon check out I stated they were an issue and the clerk seemed surprised. I have to believe the bellman. We didn't go in and out that much but it was very annoying when we did. If the management read this, stop pretending there's a problem. We had 2 sets made and each set were a problem.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Jess52 Westin could do much better
I have enjoyed being an SPG member and card holder and staying at many SPG hotels and this hotel was lacking. The staff were very unfriendly, literally every person I came in contact with. They provided basic info such as how to get to my room but nothing about where the gym, pool, spa, restraints were located. Also, as most hotels have a book in the room providing all this info this one did not which for a Westin was very surprising. I had to call the operator for absolutely every question I had. At one point they directed me to Channel 2 which was supposed to provide this info. Channel 2 contained only the items available for room service with no mention of how to order or what number to call. The room was amazing, comfortable and cozy and the housekeepers were amazing. A staff member even asked to offer me directions when they say me walking around aimlessly. Also, the spa was being renovated with no mention of this on the website. I always use the spa when I'm traveling and had I known I would have booked another Westin. The gym was amazingly clean with a great view. They also have a complimentary shuttle to the train station which is great. Also, the operator was amazing, when I couldnt find my driver's license and thought I had left it in the courtesy shuttle, he personally went down to the van which was locked up as it was afterhours and searched it while I was on the phone. Another operator helped me arrange a cab from the airport and yet another arranged a flat rate cab from Chicago back to the hotel after I missed the last train back, all when I was on the phone. Aside from the negatives I mentioned my stay was great, but I wouldn't return or recommend this hotel to anyone coming from out of town. It was quite frustrating trying to search around for info all the time and for a traveler, ease and reduced stress of the hotel experience is essential and priceless.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Tregg01 Very Nice Stay!
I made a last minute reservation at this property after considering it many times for my visits to Chicago. Since the reviews are somewhat mixed, I was a little worried as I have had some fantastic experiences at other suburban Starwood hotels, but I decided to take the plunge on this visit.
Upon arriving at the hotel, the exterior appeared austere, but the interior lobby is soaring and inviting. The hallways and room doors are exposed to the lobby, which is one large atrium, and that has always felt a little odd to me. The elevators are glass, and you can see most of the lobby on ascent. Very reminiscent of a cruise ship.
I asked the receptionist if she had an upgrade available for the evening, and she graciously bumped me up to a one bedroom suite. When I saw the doorbell on the outside of the room as I entered, I knew the room must be spacious. It was enormous, and well appointed, with a separate (very large) bedroom, large bathroom, living area and dining room. Also, a small kitchen, but I had trouble accessing the refrigerator.
All in all, the room was nice and fairly luxurious, although it did show signs of some wear. Nothing too significant, but it lacked the fit and finish of other Westins. My one big problem was with the internet. I could not access the wi-fi during several attempts, and I finally gave up and used the computer at the valet stand near the front door. Not optimal, to be sure, but I needed to make do.
As a Platinum, I was entitled to breakfast in the morning, and it was very nice, indeed. I was informed omelettes were part of the buffet, and there was a nice selection of fruits, cereals, hot food and breads/pastries. I enjoyed a nice, long breakfast and they kept the juice full!
I have stayed at nicer Westins, to be sure, but this one was "good" to "very good". What it lacks in contemporary, updated touches it makes up for in customer service and spacious rooms. Plus, with free parking near the airport, and low rates and SPG points redemption, it makes a wonderful option in the suburbs.

Well our stay began by being greeted by a friendly door man and helpful front desk clerk. Get into a beautiful suite room and it was not completely clean when we arrived. The counter tops had ring marks from drinks all over them, the lights on the wall were broken, stains on the carpet. Ok that was fine, then the light in the bedroom had a broken switch kept turning off and on, next we go into the bathroom, the toilet was not bolted down to the floor almost tipped over not to mention the tub was not very clean and bottom had a worn finish. Called down to front desk and the manager sent someone up right away to correct problems with the toilet and light, Thank you Josh! Now comes the next morning ..breakfast ... we upgraded to include breakfast well there arose another problem with communication and allowing the three of us staying in the room to have breakfast but yet again the manager Josh took care of things. Now comes the second night...after a long day we are greeted by LOUD music engulfing the whole room. There was an event going on downstairs in the ballroom which in turn the music from the event could be heard and felt throughout our room until 1:00 am! Next morning after not having a very good night sleep and having to wake up early... same problem with breakfast yet again! Got corrected after speaking with front desk and hostess. After breakfast my son and husband decide to take a swim, my son hits the side of the pool /hot tub with his arm gets a cut that will not stop bleeding, proceed to the front desk for a band aid to at least stop the bleeding and was told to go buy my own from the gift shop?? Really, my son cuts his arm in the pool area and I have to purchase my own band aids?? Was told by front desk that the hotel was not allowed to give out band aids! Ok but at least apologize! That was the breaking point of the weekend stay!
All in all the hotel is nice(suites were spacious and comfortable)had a few problems that all combined to make the visit somewhat unpleasant but the staff was friendly but needed more communication among them .Breakfast did end up being nicely presented and plentiful.

Rated 1 out of 5 Dirty room, lazy staff, group benefits not provided as promised
The hotel looks nice from the road and lobby, but that's where it ends.
The hotel room was filthy there was hair all over the bathroom, peanuts and other food under the dresser and desk, huge stains on the carpet, dust on the headboard and the worst was the large pile of white flakes of dandruff or some other substance covering the chair in the room.
We called to have the chair replaced and instead or replacing it they wanted to clean it. The person who came to the room looked like they were good to throw up when they looke at it. About 20 minutes later, the chair finally got replaced, but we felt dirty the rest of our stay as we knew the rooms were not cleaned well at all.
For some reason the room choice are one king or two double beds. The rooms and headboards look like the used to have two queen beds as there was 5 feet between beds and plenty of room on either side as well. It would have been much more comfortable with queen beds as it is difficult to sleep two comfortably in a double bed - even two kids.
We were part of a group for a soccer tournament and were forced to sign a code of conduct sheet and were threatened with a $100 fee to clean the room if it was left with 'excessive garbage'. All the more insulting when we walked into a filthy room. We were also promised 'Deluxe Continental Breakfast' for the group. This consisted of cold cereal dry pastries and coffee and milk. Not what I call 'Deluxe' by any stretch of the imagination. They also told us the breakfast wasn't available until 7:00am when many of us left the hotel before 7:00 for our first games. The planning and ability to meet our needs was less than stellar.
We also noticed disgarded room service plates in our hallway for more than 24 hours. We saw the room service people come and go and never pick up the dirty plates. It was clear that cleanliness was an afterthought at this hotel.
The snack shop was closed by mid afternoon Saturday so if you wanted anything after 5:00pm you had vending machines or Shula's steak house.
I have traveled extensively for business for over 10 years and I have to say this is one of the worst hotel experiences I have ever encountered. The staff clearly felt like our soccer group wasn't their normal clientele and treated us as such. I have stayed in a half dozen other hotels in this area over the past couple years and this is clearly the worst. If this were the only hotel with availability within 30 miles, I would sooner drive the extra 30 miles than stay here again.

Rated 3 out of 5 by TLR6 NICE HOTEL/ SERVICE NEEDS IMPROVING
I thought this property was ok below the Westin standards that I was acustom to. The rooms were clean but on a king bed the pillows were very small and uncomfortable requested extra pillows never came. I needed to open a bottle of wine and it took 30 or more minutes to find a cork screw the attendant in Shulas said he could not find the plastic cork screw that they use for guest but told me I needed to use it and return right away well needless to say I was disappointed since I was on the 12th floor and had to go all the way open the bottle and return the cork screw back at Shulas steak house, I thought this huge hotel and you can't find a cork screw that what I would expect at some other smaller hotel property but not a Westin. The next morning for breakfast my wife and I had the buffet the Eggs were warm/cold. The cereal and muffins or pastries were not stocked they may have had 2 - 4 boxes of cereal on this entire tray and the few muffins or pastries that they had were hard and stale and appeared to have been there for a while and was never stocked or replenished the only item they added was sliced bread. We asked the server for water and apparently she went on break because our water never came and we did not see our server until 50 minutes later as we were leaving. apparently there were some groups there that also complained about getting coffee, tea, etc and when they asked the men working behind the bar cleaning glasses he stated he could not help and that they would need to wait for their server and that she should be out there somewhere. Another gentleman asked for water for their table and the guy setting the bar said again they would need to wait for their server, for water now he has glasses water and ice back their and did not serve them he stated he was the night bartender and did not know where their server was, what does that have to do with getting a customer water ? I thought this was about the worst customer service I've see in a long time. I just would not expect to find this service at a westin Property. I mentioned it to the check out clerk that morning and said to please let management know and he made it seem as if they already know and that they had several people call in sick and are short staff the issues that I see were not from lack of staff but from lack of staff taking care of the customers first , I mean the bartender even if its not your job get the customer a glass of water. The chef that came out to replenish the meat (sausage and bacon) never replenish the cereal or pastries it was just a wast of money I paid almost $20 for this per person for $15.00 at other properties I could have gotten a cook to order omelet, waffle or pancakes an assortment of bread and pastries as well as assortment of cereal. I wish I could have gotten my money back.
The rooms were clean and nice just needed more pillows, but on this day the service was not satisfactory. I have read other reviews and it would seem that this is not the norm and MY wife and I just came on a bad day but at the same token there was no excuse for the bar staff to not help get customers water or at-least lack of food stocking not sure what was going on because the chef came out and replenish the Turkey Sausage and bacon but the same few boxes of cereal and hard muffins& pastries were still there very dissapointing.
