Rated 3 out of 5 by TravelinKen Average Westin
This hotel is an "ok" Westin property. I could clearly hear (and feel the walls vibrate) as the doors slammed from neighboring rooms. If you like a quieter room ask for an interior room. I was in a "13" room which has a very nice view of the outside/front of the hotel and down the street but the window insulation wasn't very good and it sounded like a car would be driving right through my room. It was a corner room at the end of the hall but it wasn't very quiet.
The front desk staff were pleasant and the housekeeping staff were very friendly and always smiling. However, no mention of my Platinum status upon check-in and no upgraded anything offered.

Rated 2 out of 5 by JMK3 Need to Deliver on What You Promise
I had a one night stay here and while I had some hesitations about staying here based on the recent reviews, I was actually excited about staying here because a few days before my checkin the hotel reached out to me with a personal email welcoming me and asking if they could prepare anything for my arrival. Fast forward a few days. A long check-in que, No upgrade, a noisy atrium room across from a loud ice machine, and then the topper was, my simple request of having some chilled sparkling water in the room upon arrival with some fresh lime wedges didn't happen.
OK. Thought I was just a little early so sent an email to the person who contacted me enquiring about the sparkling water. Was told that they didn't realize that I had wanted it upon arrival, and the usually deliver around 5pm. Strange as the emails were clear. Was told it would be there in 30 minutes.
OK. Not there an hour later. Sorta gave up at this point but left for dinner and guess what when I came back several hours later it wasn't there either.
I know the hotel was going above and beyond by making the offer which is great, but then they need to deliver on their promises. Seems easy to me. Sent a note letting them know it never arrived and was offered free breakfast instead -- kinda useless as I left the hotel and was 1/2 way to New York at that time.
Anyways, a real disappointment after having my expectations set really high.
Was also told that the hotel would be going thru a renovation this fall -- it certainly needs it, but is definitely serviceable.
I would suggest staying away from the atrium rooms, as they suffer from the common noise problem associated with atrium style hotels.
Anyways, will look for other options in DC for the next time, unless the rate is too good!

Rated 4 out of 5 by MarkTexNYC Exceptional customer service and perfect for groups and events
Typically I travel solo and don't have to worry about anyone other than me. This time -- different. I was responsible for ensuring successful stays for a group of 40+ coming from all around the country for a big event at the Kennedy Center. I needed a place that would bend to our every need and ensure that a highly stressful, nonstop work, five-night stay went off without even a bump.
Some "non positives".
- The property is showing it's age: elevators are slow, carpeting needs replacing, interior facades are worn an not attractive to the eye.
- Most room windows open to the interior courtyard--which has plenty of light, but not the same as natural, exterior light.
- Elevators are slow---seemingly on their death bed.
- On-property Starbucks is strange, not a real Starbucks.
- Hotel bar, one night, shut down a bit before midnight as our large group strolled in, hungry and in need of a night cap--to no avail. The kitchen was also closed and the staff seemed to not be able to help us.
- No Club Lounge
On the the big positives--and let me repeat...POSITIVE:
- From first contact with Lynn (chief concierge) and Jessica (sales manager) -- we felt like family and had every single need (some of them, in retrospect, ridiculous) taken care of with care, calm and expediency. Lynn and Jessica single handedly made every dime we spent well worth it.
- We needed several on-property breakfasts, lunches and dinners -- all were executed perfectly and within budget.
- Accompanying our group were some of our top donors and other VIPs--they showered us with the highest compliments similar to the ones above...telling us "great hotel choice."
- Every single staff person (from front desk, to porters, to operators, etc.) were spot-on, professional and more accommodating than any other hotel I have ever stayed in.
Certainly for the same rate there are some hotels in this area of DC that are "nicer" and perhaps closer to some of the landmarks, but I wouldn't trade my experience here for anything.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Theresa This hotel exceeded expectations
I had read the reviews for this hotel, and had some reservations about staying here. But the hotel exceeded my expectations. We checked in on a Friday night, and were given a suite upgrade. The staff was very helpful. When I mentioned we were planning to visit the Holocaust Museum, the concierge provided front of the line passes. The hotel is quite close to Dupont Circle, and we walked over for dinner several nights. The complimentary Continental Breakfast was adequate. The only (slight) negative was that the hotel was not very close to the Metro.

Staying here, I felt transported back into the 1980s. The hotel has a funny retro feel about it, elevators are very slow, nothing is where it should be, and why in the world are those rooms with indoor balconies?? My room faced the inner courtyard, which means anyone can basically look into your room at any time of the day or night, which means you'll have to keep your curtains shut.
There is no club lounge, and no minibar. The gym room has dated equipment and no natural light and feels very stuffy.
Whilst the location was very convenient both for meetings and sightseeing, I will probably not stay here again if I can avoid it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Michelle28 Nice location, but unfriendly and stinky closets
As an SPG Gold member that is almost Platinum, I was surprised by the lack of friendliness and helpfulness at this hotel. It does not AT ALL compare to the level of service at the W. Check-in staff was unfriendly and acted as if I was a major bother. Though my bed was lovely and very comfortable, my closet smelled horrendous.. like there was something rotting in there. I could not hang any clothes or even open that door. Gross. Overall, the hotel needs an upgrade. The elevators are scary.. wasn't ever sure I would make it out alive. Location is great though. Many delicious restaurants within walking distance.

Rated 1 out of 5 by DBM27 Worst experience at The Westin ever
I am a SPG member and always try to stay at Westin hotels in every city that we're traveling to whether its for business or pleasure. I was extremely disappointed by my recent stay at The Westin Washington DC City Center location. I was surprised upon my arrival to see that the hotel is undergoing major renovation. We were given a terrible room on the 5th floor which had a terrible odor and was seriously lacking in amenities. We were not given any toiletries and had to call the service express several times to get them. We elected the internet as our complimentary SPG gold member gift but upon check out we noticed that we were charged for the usage of the internet. In addition we were charged for 2 nights parking in the garage and we did not have a car on this trip. The inappropriate charges were removed upon our check out but the following day I received a revised bill from the hotel with the garage charges reinstated. I called back to the hotel front office to inform them of this error again and they referred me to the accounting department where Emanuel the accountant asked me a few inappropriate questions like "am I sure that I did not have a car" or "did anyone visit me at the hotel during my stay that had a car". I am surprised at the unprofessional service at the hotel and the apparent lack of caring by the staff. This combined with the ongoing major construction and the terrible room that we had will ensure that I never stay at this property ever again. There were several other great hotel options in the area but because of my love for Westin I chose this location and I seriously regret my choice at this time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Brandon2012 Top Notch Hotel
I was very pleased with the hotel the rooms were clean and up to date. It was exactly as advertised. I know some reviews say that the veiw is not good but that can be expected in DC the veiws are all blocked where ever you stay. It is about comfort of the room for me. This location was up to and exceeded the expectation of staying at a Westin. Staff was fantastic, quick check in. Location is only 4 blocks away from a Metro Line and about 6 to the White House. My profession is a travel agent so I am very picky when it comes to the details of staff, cleanliness, and location. They did a fantastic job and will stay here again and continue to sell this location.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Fundi Construction so loud you can't even hear anything in your room
the construction in the hotel is so loud that you can even hear another person talking in your room. We had a meeting with clients and co-worker but we had to stop all our work due the noise of the construction.
We asked for another room but the manager told us is was not her problem. We had to pay the room but we couldn't use it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by CG2012 Good location, upcoming renovation
The hotel is about to do a renovation, and it is needed - currently, it looks pretty tired. The location is very convenient and the room was clean and comfortable. The restaurant is dreary in its current state. The staff's attention to detail is not up to par - I had the Indulge package rate, and I had to call attention to and ask for every single item that was included. It took multiple requests to receive the wine, and I finally got it late in the evening, well past the point at which I wanted to enjoy it. So pay attention to what's included if you get a package rate because the stafff is not paying attention.

This hotel has a great location, and generally the rooms are comfortable. My last trip, I even had a note and gift because it was my 25th stay at the property. That was the good. Accidentally dropped something on the floor almost under the bed. Reached down to get it, and saw a collection of condom wrappers under the bed. At least three. Kinda took the shine off the spacious room with the chocolates. Reported it to the desk the next morning as i went out for the day, clerk didn't apologize, just said flatly it would be taken care of. Sure made me feel special. Yeah, think I'll find an alternative Starwood property in DC.

Rated 4 out of 5 by TMJones801 Good place to stay in D.C.
It took a little while to check in because a lot of people arrived at the same time. Our room was at the end of the line which made my mother, who walks with a cane, a little disappointed. Nonetheless, the room was clean, beds were VERY comfortable, and it was overall a nice stay. Someone discharged a fire extinguisher at 2:00 in the morning which caused a lot of chaos on our first night, but other than that it was a quiet stay and the hotel staff provided an apology letter. It would have been nice to go an extra step and provide a credit or something but oh well. Would probably stay here again on a return visit anyway.

My mother and I stayed here for our first visit to DC and we can not have enjoyed ourselves any better than we did. The hotel is located in a very good location for visiting the city. The metro stop is just a few easy blocks away, there is a Whole Foods store three blocks from the hotel. The staff is very accommodating and when I requested a quiet room, they gave me one! Although the property is a little dated, it is very comfortable and very clean and I will stay there again on my next visit.

looking forward to a relaxing fun weekend in DC but, walked into a hotel renovation that wasnt disclosed, unhelpful staff, had several noise issue during the evening and security didnt respond or address. I understand noise when renovating but pounding on adjacient walls and ceilings all day . Maids just walked into the room without knocking. I spoke to manangement and they wanted to credit my account 20,000 points yet after checking they only credited me 10,000. I guess their word doesnt stand for much either.

The staff is not accommodating - and certainly doesn't care if you stay at that hotel regularly or care about your status in Starwood. I am responsible for bringing my company's business to the hotel and I believe it was a mistake. Terrible room locations - lots of noise and a staff who doesn't care.

Rated 2 out of 5 by KevHeart1 Traveler Beware!
This property is under construction, something we did not know or were told about when booking the room for a fun weekend. It is clear the hotel needs the renovation. The reception desk has been moved to the mezzanine level and directions to reception at the front door don't exist. Locations are at the elevator in the back of the lobby. This issue is minor compared to the elevator issue. While a elevator was always waiting on the ground level, we waited over 10 minutes each time we left our floor. I believe the fact they sat at the ground level caused the issue. We could not use the stairwells to avoid the elevators. Construction noise existed and was annoying, but not intolerable. Ear plugs were in the room - only 1 pair. When I shared with the front desk clerk my issues with the elevators, I was told they were sorry about the problem, but this is part of construction and it is what it is. That response was NOT acceptable and will keep me from returning to what I am sure will be a nice renovated hotel.

After staying at the Westin in Richmond, VA we anticipated having the same level of experience at this property. No where in booking did it state the current condition of the hotel on booking. The hotel is a current mess and the quality, or lack thereof, of rooms is not in keeping with the Westin or Starwood brand. For the room rate being charged, we should have been paid to stay at this hotel. Being a travel agent I will not recommend this hotel to anyone going forward.

This was a disappointment through and through. I have stayed here for years and always reliable - used my suite upgrades only to find a non-lobby and small room (for a platinum guest) and no amenities. The staff swore up and and down that there was plenty of notice on their sites - well I did not see it and if I had, I would have switched. If you have statues, ask for ask for a room facing OUTSIDE.

Our stay at this Westin was excellent. The hotel is beautiful, modern and the staff was beyond friendly. The front desk was extremely helpful in getting a room change from a King to a double for my sister and niece who were travelling with my husband and me. The valet, concierge and bell were courteous.
The bar/lounge had excellent service and drinks.
The rooms were modern, clean and bed and linen were comfortable.
The Westin at M street was walking distance to all the sites in Washington DC and to many good restaurants and cafes in the area.
I would definitely recommend this hotel to all my friends and family.

Rated 4 out of 5 by LegalEagle surprisingly personal service
Despite attracting business travelers, City Center managed to make families welcome and provide extra pleasures for leisure travel like mine this weekend. Ada the concierge was a joy. Wilny the room service waiter was wonderful. The list of each day's special events was extremely helpful in a city that offers so much to so many. The deluxe room was very comfortable, the view fine, and the staff was delightful. This older professional woman traveler will certainly return.

Rated 4 out of 5 by TomL Very nice older-style hotel
This looks like a 1970s-style hotel with the rooms surrounding a large atrium. Although the atrium provides interesting views from the rooms, it can be noisy due to echoing sounds.
This hotel has been maintained well and is in very good condition. The carpets and furniture and fixtures in my room were all in like-new condition. The room was clean with plenty of towels.
Although I didn't ask for anything special, the check-in staff was very friendly and efficient.

It got off to a great start. The gentlemen that checked me in was excellent. Professional, curteous and welcoming. And there was a fruit tray waiting for me. And the room had a lovely view. The facilites are little worn and need sprucing up. And when I went to clean up the next morning, it was not good. The water was luke warm and was cold before I got out. And I could not find soap, when I called I was told they no longer had soap only body wash. That does not cut it for me. I like to wash my face with soap not body wash. I do not understand that policy at all. There are better places to stay in DC.

Having stayed here numerous times on business, this past stay convinced me it would be my last. I had to have my room changed 4 times due to lack of air conditioning and cigarette smell. When I got a room w/ AC and no odors... then the internet connection was horrible. I gave up and stayed there. As a Platinum Member, none of my profile requests were noted. Other than the bellman, the room service person & the man who tried to fix one of the AC units, the staff was unprofessional. I appreciate they are about to undergo a major renovation, however consideration must be given to the current guests.

I have to admit everyone we came in contact with provided exceptional service and professional attitude. Not sure how they are able to keep that many great staff members! Used thde suite upgrade and got the atrium suite. Awesome suite and very private considering you have no room next to you at all! No club lounge but the front desk had no problems giving out water. Great location, highly recommend.

I was placed on the SPG Floor. All of the requests from my SPG profile were honored and I received a nice note from the hotel manager upon check-in. In my rush to get to DC, I left my shoes at home. Concierge was quick to point me to the nearby Macy's and gave me coupons to use. Room service was quick and accurate. We didn't hear any noise from other rooms or outside. I will definitely return!

Hotel has great location and generally nice facilities. Gym is great. We were disappointed that the lobby coffee shop was closed on Sunday morning; and the gift shop was not open during the advertised hours. More concerning was the bad service we received in the lounge when we asked for a cup of coffee one afternoon. The waiter was rude and dismissive of us and his presentation of the coffee was worse that one would receive at a McDonalds. Shameful. While I would suggest this hotel to others I would warn them away from the lounge.

I've stayed at this DC hotel several times. It provides the expected and comfortable Westin stay. The breakfast buffet -- and I'm not a fan of buffets -- was truly exceptional in selection and style.
My only concern was the absence of a mini-bar. They are a great convenience when you are working in your room or return late after meetings and prefer to just relax alone.

The Staff at the Westin DC City Center is extremely accommodating. They are always willing to help and are extremely knowledgeable of the city. Great location 5 minute walk to the White House. I had noted we were visiting for a 30th Birthday Celebration and we arrived to a bottle of champagne and cake! It was a lovely surprise that made the trip that much more special. The hotel will be renovated in the near future, which it needs. The hotel is clean and functional, but dated. The new designs on display in the lobby look lovely! Thank you, Westin DC City Center!
