Rated 1 out of 5 by hammertime2012 This hotel has gone down
I have stayed at this hotel many times over the past 15 years. I had not been here in a while but remembered it to be nice. It has really gone down. The elevators didn't function and no one even bothered to tell us. Everybody was waiting around for 20-30 min for an elevator and it never c ame. We eventually walked and still had to wait another 20 min for our vehicle.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Alex519 Great location
Great location and views from the lobby. I was upgraded to one of their suites, and I can tell you it was among the best I have seen on an upgrade. As expected, the bed was heavenly, and the Westin Workout facility was great. Westin's definitely have the best fitness centers of any hotels I regularly stay at. No club lounge here, and the breakfast was just average.

The hotel was everything I expected in a first class hotel and had first class amenities. A great location to the River and the French Quarter.

I was very dissappointed with the elevator situation. My niece was getting married and had several events to attend not to mention the wedding and had to wait no less than 20 minutes to get on an elevator. Finally we had to go up then come down just to get to the wedding on time. My husband has back problems and could no untilize the stairs. Very very disappointed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Dynes This Hotel has Awesome River View
We stayed for a night to meet my brother who works in a cargo ship based in Germany. The bed was very comfortable. My boyfriend who loves watching trains was able to view a very long cargo train from our river view room. He cannot stop talking about it and said that he will never stay in other hotel aside from Westin and river view room only.

The Westin Hotel in New Orleans is undergoing remodeling and repairs. However I was not informed of the roof repairs at checkin by hotel staff which impacted our stay. We were on the 28th floor directly below the roof repairs. It we had known this we would have requested a lower floor away from the constant noise. It was disappointing and ruined a wonderful time.

Rated 4 out of 5 by JacksonTraveler Good meeting and stay at the Westin
Attended a professional meeting at the Westin and stayed there for 4 nights. Hotel has best location on the Quarter-side of Canal St. Quiet and away from the night-time noise deeper in the Quarter. Perfect location for Canal Place shopping...just ride the elevator down to the shops. Meeting rooms were excellent as well as food offerings for meeting participants.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Janny The Hotel has a great location and very special Staff
The stay exceeded expectations....the only comment that would be constructive would be that it needs to stay maintained...elevator areas need paint etc.....our suite was furnished sparsely...no refrigerator, mini bar did not work.....with that being said very conscientious pleasant and helpful Staff.....great views and quiet at night! A real plus in New Orleans.

Rated 2 out of 5 by DaveNYNY Needs a renovation
The property is located on Canal Street above a terrific shopping mall and movie theater, close to both the Quarter and St Charles line. I've actually never stayed at a Westin that was in this need of a total renovation and I can't imagine staying here again. I plan on posting some photos on a prominent hotel review web-site showing the frayed carpets, flooring, old bathroom fixtures and shabby/run down elevators. The roof pool provides a stunning view of the CBD and river however the condition of the stairs leading up to this area was in need of work and reminded me of something I might see at a lower end hotel chain. Lastly, the original 1980's guest room doors are thin providing little noise isolation from the hallway, if you're a sound sleeper you may need to consider ear plugs. A note to Platinum guests: do not expect upgrades or any type of amenity beyond the points, if you are put on a club floor consider yourself lucky.

Rated 4 out of 5 by dmthideout first time at a Westin
I travel a lot and this was my first time at a Westin. We had trouble at check in getting our luggage and on the third morning had issues with the front desk, but both issues were resolved. The beds were very comfortable but I was disappointed that there was not a fridge in the room. I would consider staying at a Westin again.

We had the most wonderful time at the Westin Canal Place! The hotel was perfect for us for a quick getaway - close to shops for my wife, and we thoroughly enjoyed our room and the beautiful atmosphere of the hotel. We appreciate the attentive and personable staff and will make a point of returning very soon!

Rated 4 out of 5 by Bug1017 Elevators Need Help
For a hotel this size, you need to look into installing more elevators. Four elevators to access all the guest rooms is just not enough! The day we checked out, only two of the elevators were operational. We walked down the stairs with luggage in hand to check out along with quite a few other guests. This is not acceptable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Timothy59 One of my favorite hotels :)
My wife and I, traveled to New Orleans for the Imaging 2012 Photographer's convention, and the Westin Canal Place did not disappoint. This is easily our favorite hotel in New Orleans, and we stay there 3-4 times a year. This is not only a beautiful hotel, but the staff is always friendly and helpful. We look forward to many additional stays with them.

Rated 3 out of 5 by flade62 Rooms were fine...but a little surprised by service experience
I stayed one evening in New Orleans. The hotel is in a fantastic location, views are beautiful, and the comfort of the room met my Westin expectations. There were 2 things that I was surprised about.
1. I was not welcomed as a gold member. It sounds trivial, but after staying at Starwood hotels for 43 days this calendar year, it was disappointing. Also, upon questioning this, I found my reservation had some corporate number (or something like that) and when I showed my card, I was told I wouldn't get credit. It eventually was fixed. Also, I checked my bags with the bellhop. They didn't arrive for 30 minutes after I was in my room, which was after checkin and self parking. I had to call twice to get them delivered. I had driven about 12 hours to New Orleans, and I was hungry and tired, and really just wanted my clothes so I could change and to out for dinner. The bellhop apologized profusely when he finally arrived, and all was well...

My Mom and I had a Wonderful Time ! Great Location in Canal Place! The View from the 22nd Floor overlooking the city was Perfect! The Lobby on the 11th floor was Breathtaking!! My Mother Loved the Big Lit Mirror in the bathroom!! I do wish they had a air vent in the bathroom. The Pool on the roof view was awesome!! Would highly recommend this hotel!!

Rated 2 out of 5 by Torin72 Doesnt deliver
I reserved a king and was told I had to accept a double, this is the second time that I have experienced this with this hotel. If it wasn't a company function i would have canceled and drove home. It is obvious to me that this is a culture mind set driven by management to give away rooms on late check ins and what ever the result it is, it just is!

was very disappointed to learn the elevators were being serviced and not working to capacity. We were part of a large group for a wedding. When the reservations were made by the bride and groom, they should have been made aware of this issue before their decision was made...they had no idea this inconvenience was going to be going on for our stay.

From the moment I pulled up to the entrance there was someone from the staff making me feel right at home. The only problem during the conference was the guest elevators. The food was good, the meeting rooms were very comfortable, and the rooms were the best I've had for the price in a long time.

It has great views and is close to attractions.
My room was not ready till around 5.30-6.00pm which creates a lot of discomfort if you are arriving as a family with kids.
People coming in after us were getting rooms must have been other categories but still very annoying!
The next day the staff were promptly clearing out the room by 12 noon.

Rated 3 out of 5 by cmichellem53 Overcharged incedental authorization
Upon checking into the hotel I was charged $245 authorization on my debit card, after I was told it would be $50. I had already pre-paid my entire 3-day stay. After check-out I had a zero balance, so the amount was authorized for nothing. This amount is still being held on my debit card five days later. The authorization prevented me from utilizing the money I had set aside for my vacation, leaving me a small amount of money left. This substantial amount of money for incidentals is ridiculous. I worked for Starwood properties while in college, which is the only reason I would recommend the hotel, I was very disappointed by both being mislead in the amount that was to be authorized and the staff when I pointed out the mistake after the authorization had taken place. Having worked at the front desk, I know that authorizations can be reversed. I travel a lot with business and this experience will be a factor in where I chose to stay in the future.

Great location, close enough to the Quarter without being too close, as well as shopping - with great views of the river as it makes its horseshow turn

We were so looking forward to staying at the Westin however we were quickly disappointed! The bathrooms were a hot mess!!!! Mold on the ceilings and walls! Peeling paint again on the ceilings and walls... Rooms felt very cramped and tight. I would not recommend the Westin in New Orleans to anyone I know!

Several problems. Elevators worked sporadiaclly. No response to problem with toilet and remote control. Brought it up to staff twice. Only one chair in room. Pillows way too soft. Had to take two elevators to our room. Parking and internet costs out of sight!!!
On plus side, morning coffee and newspaper was good. Staff was very polite.

Me and all other guests said room was too hot: miserable hot. Faucet sprayed/leaked a lot. Parking was way overpriced. Iron and ironing board was cheap, flimsy, and near useless. NO vending machines, forcing you to pay $3.00 for coke in gift shop. Room was overpriced. Will not allow you to take cart, forcing you to tip bellboy.

Bathroom door hinges were rusted, air conditioner did not work at full capacity, overly priced breakfast buffet, 2 for 1 happy hour still cost me $27.00 for two drinks, and interior elevators were dated and loose. However the staff was very polite, and willing to help or resolve any problem as long as they could do it from their post.

The Westin Canal place is a great hotel to stay at because you can walk to everything without being in the heart of everything. Royal Ave shopping, Jackson square and the ferry are an easy walk. But then when you come home, it's far enough away to be quiet and away from the crazies! The hotel is beautiful and everyone is super nice.
