Rated 4 out of 5 by Great Stay Althought this Westin is a little older, the service and staff is still 4-star! Very comfortable bed, impeccable housekeeping and this hotel knows how to meet a challenge! The city of Tampa had a water alert while we were there, and the Westin didn't miss a beat! Bottled water, chilled was out before I could hit the lobby to inquire about the alert!!!! Friendly staff made this stay extra nice! We will be back next year for Gasparilla and our stay at Westin! Rated 3 out of 5 by Less than expected The location was great. The price was high. The windows were filthily dirty. The bathtub drain did not drain. No towels in the swimming pool area. February 25, 2013
Rated 2 out of 5 by Renovations The hotel will be nice when the renovations are complete but the lack of elevators (only 1 or 2 seemed to be working) and the wait time was an issue. We ended up using services elevators and stairs. Having to pay for internet was also disappointing. Staff were very courteous and did their best given the work going on around them . Rated 2 out of 5 by Needs major work to reach "Westin" standards The rooms were clean and well furnished, but all common areas were lacking. It honestly took up to 10 minutes at times for the elevator to arrive. The pool area needs major work. Also, one day we waited 45 minutes for towels at the pool, and had to call twice. The pool bar is a joke - no music, unmotivated bartender. The onsite restaurant is so-so. Overall this did not meet my expectations of a Westin. February 25, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Satisfied Customer I would like to acknowledge the staff for their warm disposition and willingness to help. The room was comfortable and clean. The facility seemed well organized and managed. I would stay again or encourage others to choose this location if it aligned with their needs. February 24, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Stay!!! This was the first time staying with this hotel and I was blown away by their service. I stayed here to run the Gasparilla Race and will be staying here next year as well. Everyone was so friendly and went out of their way to make sure you had everything you needed. The hotel really catered to the runners for the race in more ways than I can even mention. Great job staff, I'll be back for sure! February 24, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Caring staff that make the difference During our stay we had the opportunity to experience the F&B department more than usual. At our arrival it was refreshing to get offer complementary wine. During my interaction with Derek he was really polite and genuine when explaining the menus to us. In the menu the lobster bisque caught my attention but I had my reserves as my previous experience in other restaurants have always being disappointed. I happened to share my concern with Derek and he encourage me to try it and insisted that I would not be disappointed. I took his offer and went to the bar where we were greater by Paul. While we were waiting for our drinks Derek came out with a small plate with the bisque for us to try to ensure the soup would be to our satisfaction. Wow his service was above and beyond. If would not beign for his initiative I would probably would not have dare to try the soup. I order the soup every day during my stay. Even my 3 year old grand son loved it. Thank you Derek. Then on Sunday the day of our departure I came down to have breakfast and I asked my grandson what he wanted. To my surprise he said soup. How do you reason with a three year old. Well I dare to asked German my server and he smiled and said let me check with the kitchen. Later he came back and said no problem the cook will do it for you. Wow again i was not expecting them to be that accommodating. While my grandson was enjoying his soup I notice that the chef/cook came to the dining area delivering some toast. There I learn that he was responsible to make it happen and although I reward him I wanted to let you know that Chris willingness to satisfied us was a great way to culminate our stay. Lodging can be found anywhere but after our experience I now have a favorite place to stay when visiting the Tampa Bay Area because your staff really care. Also special thank you to Justin how was very helpful at checking and Denisse from HR for her hospitality. February 22, 2013
Rated 3 out of 5 by Elevator noise in room As a "Platinum" member, an "upgrade" to a room next to a noisy elevator shaft is no upgrade at all. February 21, 2013
Rated 2 out of 5 by Hotel under construction Elevators did not work I was trapped in a service elevator for 30 minutes and had to use the phone call box I had a broken foot and the hotel was not well equipped for getting around without elevators functioning room service food was bad hard to get a cab February 20, 2013
Rated 3 out of 5 by Great location! I would recommend this hotel due to it's location to the Convention Center. Just a short walk over the bridge. What was disappointing was the elevators not working properly. We were on the 5th floor with only 1 or 2 elevators working. We were allowed to use the service elevators to get where we needed to go, not a pretty site seeing behind the scenes. Pool was accessible through a sep. elevator, weird! Small gym, older equip. Rated 2 out of 5 by Needs Improvement We stayed for 2 nights in February 2013. The hotel wouldn't provide our room block with rooms that had double beds, so we requested a roll away / cot for our room when making the reservation (2-3 weeks in advance). When I checked in they mentioned that they saw the roll away reservation but they were out of them because they didn't hold one for my room. The hotel staff did nothing to rectify this over the course of my stay. The Elevators have been "under renovation" for a couple of months now. We consistently had to wait 5-10+ minutes every time we wanted to use an elevator. They had signs pointing us to the service elevators, however we would wait just as long for them to come. Whenever we used our shower, it leaked all over our bathroom floor. February 19, 2013
Rated 1 out of 5 by WARNING I was shocked that a Westin facility could be in such poor shape. First and foremost, the elevators were malfunctioning the entire stay (6 days). We were directed to use the service elevators, which meant riding with trash, food, and LOTS of other people. It was not uncommon for people to have to wait 15+ minutes for an elevator making it hard to run to your room in between meetings and causing us to be late to the airport. February 19, 2013
Rated 3 out of 5 by Tournament stay Hotel has some nice features but for the price, not worth it. February 19, 2013
Rated 1 out of 5 by Tournament stay The Habour area is beautiful, the hotel has a great location for our visit but the hotel is rundown, the elevator didn't work, the staff was rude and very un-attendant to basic needs, our room was very small even that I chose and paid for premium room I received the standard and charge for the other, I will never stay here or recommend this hotel not very "SPG " February 19, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by In town on business Stayed one night on business - this place will be great after the renovations are complete. The great bed was really all I needed though. February 17, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Enjoy Tampa on the water Location was great. The staff was friendly and welcoming. Breakfast buffet was extraordinary and servers very efficient. It was very relaxing at the pool to observe all the water craft on the channel. February 14, 2013
Rated 2 out of 5 by Vastly overrated To pay $250 for a room where one has to wait up to 10 minutes for an elevator is ridiculous. Also, unbelievable to me that a hotel of this apparent caliber does not have Saturday WSJ's, and then the staff responds, "You get what you get." This is by far the worst Westin experience I've ever had. Last, the restaurant staff was completely unintelligible (not all but the table wait staff) when I had questions; didn't appear to understand English. February 12, 2013
Rated 2 out of 5 by Completely underwhelmed The Westin Hotel in Tampa is basically an expensive mid tier hotel. The place is tired. The management recognizes that fact because on the desk in the room and attached to my invoice there was a letter saying that they are going to be performing an upgrade to the hotel. The elevators worked, sometimes. I took the service elevator almost as often as the regular elevators. They even had a sign up to direct you to the service elevator and apologizing that the regular ones did not work properly. My question is, quite obviously, why do they charge premium rates for a substandard hotel? The hallway carpets in the public areas are old and stained. The room carpets are old. There are no bathrobes in the rooms, no fans in the bathrooms, the plumbing under the basin in the bathrooms is exposed, the shower nozzles are not affixed to the wall properly and I could go on and on but you understand what I experienced. Rated 4 out of 5 by Hotel Staff was exceptional, room was nice and stay was most enjoyable!! I booked this room as a surprise Birthday present with some tickets to a concert at the Forum nearby. It was very close to everything we needed, within walking distance at that. The staff was awesome, nice and very helpful. The only issue we had were the elevators, waiting for them, but they had signs up they are redoing them so we took that into consideration. It was a great stay even though the concert was cancelled at the last minute, we enjoyed our getaway from home and they made us feel like we were home.... February 11, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Good Hotel with a Few Kinks Nice location (on a private island, quiet but very close to eveything, e.g. downtown, Ybor City Channelside district etc.), friendly and helpful staff, good SPG recognition (upgrade to a corner suite with nice water views). A few areas need improvement: First, the elevators do NOT work properly. We pressed the down button from our floor and the button would light up for a few seconds and then go out. This happened constantly, so we had to press the up button to get an elevator to then go down (this worked most of the time; at other times, we just had to pray that the elevator would stop on our floor to let someone off). Secondly, the carpet in the room is a bit old and worn and needs replacing. February 10, 2013
Rated 3 out of 5 by ok stay The hotel has 3 elevators, 1 never opened , 1 worked, 1 wouldn't stop on my room floor. The elevators are slow and often was a 3-5 minute wait at a minimum to open. February 7, 2013
Rated 3 out of 5 by Not up to par with other Westin properties The hotel elevators are under renovation. The hotel is very noisy, you can hear everything that goes on in the hallway and your neighbors using the restroom. The fitness room is a bit cramped. Bedding is nice and double shower heads are great. There is a weird smell in the hallways, may be related to renovations. February 2, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Quiet and comfortable My room was quiet, clean and very comfortable, and had a great view of the city. The staff was friendly and helpful. February 2, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Very good Hotel Staff was courteous, rooms are clean, and location is good. Only negative was the fitness center is cramped. February 1, 2013
Rated 2 out of 5 by Stay in Tampa Westin Very dissapointed with the conditions of the hotel and the rate associated with my stay. The other nearby hotels had equal or lower rate and wrer much nicer facilities =. I know you are renovating and I think the cost of the rooms shoiuld be much lower until the renovations are complete. The elevators were horrible as far as waits. January 29, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Customer Service Thank you to the staff and managers at The Westin Tampa Harbour Island. When we checked in and went to our room, we had trouble with the lock getting into and out of our room. The manager immediately switched our room and upgraded it. We had an excellent time during our stay for the BICSI conference January 27, 2013
Rated 2 out of 5 by Avoid this hotel during remodeling It is a regular Westin room, roomy and comfortable. Elevator is a huge problem. If you need a gym to work out, this might NOT be the best time to visit. Find local restaurants, not at this hotel. January 26, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Business trip Hotel is in a perfect location and views are beautiful. Room are nice size and bed is comfortable. Staff is friendly. I recomend the hotel. Negative is that it is going through renovation and hotels are being worked on and slow. Exercise room is small. January 26, 2013
Rated 1 out of 5 by This Hotel needs improvements From the moment we walked in I could tell this was not going to be a good experience. We wanted the group rate for $179 but had to pay the regular price of $250. The hotel looks worn and tired. The hallways were cold, always a chill in the air. When we got into the room it was freezing. The heater was not working so we called and they came and said it was fixed. It was not. I called again and they said it was fixed. It was not. The third time I told them they finally fixed it. The light in the hallway was out so we could not see to get dress in the mirror. I had to call two times to get it fixed. The third time I went down to the lobby and they said that it was not the bulb but the electrical wiring. Needless to say they did nothing. I asked for more towels but the next day they took all the towels and gave us less than we had at the beginning. No hand towels or face towels were left. I put a sign on the door, do not disturb and the housekeeper knocked on the door to clean the room. I told them about fixing the light but it never got done. I'm too upset to go on... Rated 3 out of 5 Was better last year I stayed here last year and loved it. I recommended this hotel many times because the staff and the facilities were wonderful. This year the staff was not as pleasant. Although I was booked for four days, each day I was told that it was my last day of my stay. The staff was apologetic and kept me in my room, but if I hadn't spent time in the lobby I don't know what would have happened. January 21, 2013
