Rated 5 out of 5 by Sunset Key Cottages could be anywhere! I travel every week on business and brought my family for long Easter weekend stay this time. What a beautiful island and just a quick 5 min boat ride from Key West Westin. Once you are on island the care and service you get are amazing. Awesome beach, dolphin trip, snorkeling, fishing all arranged by Concierge. Even had an easter egg hunt which my kids loved. Truely a safe and wonderful place to let the kids roam and do their thing and not have a worry about saftey or lack of things to do. Couldnt be easier and more relaxing. Latitudes was excellent and delicious! Enjoyed party time in Key West and quiet comforts of Sunset Keys only 5 minutes away. First vacation my kids actually thanked me for taking them on!! Rated 5 out of 5 by WE love the hotel We have stayed there a number of times. Really love everything about it. Only had one bad experience and it was due to boat being filled and the crew not letting the hotel guests on and was not real nice about telling us. August 4, 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by Overpriced Great Location I went to the cottages because I wanted to have a great time and spend some time away from civilization with my family. We usually go to a five star in miami beach, but this time we felt more adventurous. What a mistake: 1. Starwood Status recognition was terrible. Late check-out was noon on a Monday when the hotel was completely empty. 2. Services always full regardless of status. Spa - booked, restaurant - booked, monday spa - closed. Can we do something? Not really. 3. I was feeling ill. "Is there a doctor in house: I could get you some pills?" 4. Location is awesome. But totally overpriced. Resort fees of amenities you cant use because they are booked. 5. Top tier price but mid tier service. 6. Pool bar on a weekend, closed after 3:00 PM. Want anything to drink? Go all the way to the entrance to pick it yourself. 7. Pastries in the morning. Great. for such a high price a night its the minimum you would ask. October 3, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by The Sunset Key Cottages are outstanding We have stayed here four times in under one year. We have stayed in both the two and three bedroom cottages. The hotel is truly a perfect environment. From the five minute boat ride to your private island to the beach cottages that are perfectly accommodating and furnished, your every need is met. Also, the gym is well done, the spa worked well for my wife, the pool was great for the kids and the beach was pretty and private. There are employees at all both the pool and the beach taking care of everyone's needs. Finally, the restaurant and room service is impeccable. The Sunset Key defines 5 star resort and is absolutely worthy of all of the accolades it has received. January 18, 2012
Rated 3 out of 5 by A Definite Disappointment My friend and I booked 2 nights at the Sunset Key Cottages, instead of the Westin, thinking that the rather large jump in price would be worth it. Not so. Overall, the resort it really beautiful, although the beach is a little small. The amenities on the island are nice, but we were kind of surprised that the pool bar closes at 6pm. Don't they know that a lot of people like to swim and have a drink at night? My real issue with the resort is this: I have been SPG Platinum for 11 years now, and in that 11 years, have never encountered a property that did not give SOME sort of upgrade for free. My friend arrived a few hours before me and when he checked in, we were assigned a 2 bedroom cottage (what we had booked) with a garden view. Well, the view left a lot to be desired, so he inquired if we could be moved to a cottage with a better view. He was told yes, but the fee to upgrade would be $300/night. He agreed. I didn't know about this until after we had checked out and saw the bill. I contacted the SPG Platinum Concierge who was also a bit surprised and she contacted the hotel on my behalf... And was told that the Sunset Key Cottages, while a Westin property, has limited participation in the SPG program and does not offer any complimentary upgrades for platinum members. While I was certainly not expecting an upgrade from a 2 bedroom to 3 bedroom cottage or something like this.... but $300 to upgrade the VIEW? It was the exact same room type, just on the beach instead of in the "garden". That seems rather excessive, especially considering that the hotel was not nearly at capacity. I have stayed at other resort properties that have limited SPG participation, but they ALWAYS upgrade my room and/or offer some local gift, a bottle of wine, something... Anything.... What is the purpose of having a platinum level if there are really no benefits at the top tiered properties? Internet Access? Nope, it's included in the $100 per night resort fee. Free Parking? Nope, $22/night valet fee. So what are the benefits? 500 extra starpoints... Which to say the least is very disappointing. While we had a very nice stay, the staff was overall pretty friendly, and we had a good time... upon seeing the final bill, I would not recommend this resort as it just isn't a good value for the money spent. If you're platinum and planning on staying here, don't count on being recognized for your loyalty... it's not going to happen. September 8, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Simply the Best! Sunset Key provides any and all needs. It is a beach, a quiet place to relax, minutes from Key West by boat for all the excitement you might crave.. The personnel are outstanding. We have been going for 10 years and we don't know how but it gets better every time. The facilities are constantly being upgraded and the personnel always remember you. Can't say enough May 29, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Will not find a better view than this in Key West! From the moment you step off your vehicle to the moment you check out, you will be treated like royalty. The staff is incredible polite and helpful. Our host met us at the dock, I believe her name was Gina, Russian girl, walked us through the check in process. Took us to our villa, showed us around and left us to enjoy the resort. The pool side bar was excellent and so was the service. The bartender was so attentive. Now, the view was spectacular. We can see Mallory square across the water and at night, we laid in the hammock listening to tw music played across the way. The 3 bedroom villa is spacious, well appointed and comfortable. Casual decor makes it feel at home in the keys. Will be back many times, God willing! May 16, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Heaven! I have never posted a review online before but I loved this resort so much I just had to commend it. We stayed here the last week in January 2013 and it was wonderful!! My children felt safe and secure to run to the beach or pool or tennis courts by themselves. The staff were very friendly and the cottages were spacious and beautifully appointed. Breakfast on the patio was a nice touch! We loved being away from the hustle and bustle of Key West on our "own private island." We only wish the weather would have been warmer (and less wind). We loved everything about this hotel. What a lovely treat! April 27, 2013
