Rated 5 out of 5 by Dreamy Oasis Rising out of the Desert OVERALL IMPRESSION: The resort rises out of the desert like some spectacular mirage and the beautiful grounds and exotic Moroccan decor really reinforce the feeling of being in some beautiful Oasis! SPG RECOGNITION: Spectacular! Room upgrade to a Junior suite with view. Delightful in-room amenity: cheese platter and wonderful wine. Drink coupons for the Lounge. Platinum breakfast is a fairly simple Continental (Bagel/roll ad fruit cup) in Rick’s Cafe. THE ROOM: Westin has apparently just taken over the property and there are some signs of wear and tear but nothing drastic. In general, the decor was quite beautiful with luxurious soft furnishings and a North African color palette and feel. LOCATION: After a couple of days on the Strip the rather remote location was just what we were looking for. For those who make it a base, there is a convenient shuttle to downtown. Lake Las Vegas itself has plenty to offer with restaurants and shops. The setting right on the lake (part of the structure juts into the water) is gorgeous. EXCEEDED EXPECTATIONS: I loved the fact that there were small framed info boards all around the property with mini-lessons on all things Moroccan - even in the room (which featured an alcove) there was an explanation of the architectural tradition of the alcove. DID NOT MEET EXPECTATIONS: I applied for a Your24 and it was granted. We arrived after our appointed time of 10AM but, in the meantime, a Platinum Upgrade to an Executive Suite was effected and nobody apparently realized that the Your24 should be correlated so it was not ready even at 10:30. We were told it would be ready within 30-40 minutes but after 90 minutes we were still waiting and we were finally down-graded to a Junior Suite as no executive would be ready before 5. This, of course, was still a bonus over our booked category but pure human nature comes into play and we were disappointed that the Executive had eluded our grasp! The Front Office Manager was effusive in his apology and offered lots of concessions but the root problem needs really to be investigated and resolved as I can imagine this situation would occur frequently amongst Platinum elite. I really don’t understand why some properties - this amongst them - have such difficulty crediting Starpoints in a timely manner. I know they are given 7 days but how is it some properties manage to credit on the same day as check-out and others have to be chased down? January 15, 2013

Rated 3 out of 5 by 2nd visit. Very disappointed We previously stayed here when it was managed by a different company. We were excited to see Westin was now managing property and decided to use our points to stay here one night on a road trip through the area. While the property itself is beautiful we had numerous service failures. First we were given a room overlooking the roof and the front of hotel. We did not ask for a room change because we needed a feather free room and were told it takes an hour to get a room ready. We did have an awesome meal at Lantana. Our problems really started when we went to bed and tried to put some things in the refrigerator.....which turned out to be missing. When I called down to the front I was told that none of the rooms had them and they had to be requested from housekeeping! I asked why it was listed as an amenity if they were not in the rooms. Once again I was told it had to be requested. We were trying to get to bed so I was not going to stay up and wait for housekeeping to find one and bring it up. My son was already asleep. Then in the middle of the night my husband was woke up to this high pitched beeping. Not loud like an alarm. Just annoying. He was bothered more than me and had to sleep with a pillow over his head!! Upon checkout I mentioned the issues about the fridge and was told that only our floor did not have fridges. They were in the middle of swapping them out and our floor was not done. As I mentioned before we stayed here before and had a great time. This visit was very disappointing especially since we used points to stay. Then to top it off I get my American Express bill to find out not only did they charge us our incidentals they also charged us $50 in another transaction. Glad I caught it. Guess they were supposed to bill Starwood for the points we used. Instead someone at the front desk billed me $50 for the points? How does that happen? January 10, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Front Desk Staff is super helpful and friendly From the minute we handed our keys to the Valet, until checkout the next day, we were amazed at the friendliness of the Westin staff. We were treated great and enjoyed every minute of our stay. The outdoor area with its comfortable sofas, fountains and fire places (overlooking the lake) makes the perfect setting for a glass of wine and conversation. Looking forward to coming back in the spring and enjoying the beautiful pool. January 9, 2013
Rated 3 out of 5 by Details We wanted to love this property. The hotel, the grounds and the scenery are excellent however the small details that would make this property on a par with top Westin properties within SPG. I suggest duplicating the "Diplomat" experience. January 7, 2013

We have already recommended This Westin To several of our California friends! We absolutely loved it here, it was a whole new view and perspective of Vegas for us! Will never go back to the strip. Rated 3 out of 5 by Experience Less Than Expected Most problems during our stay were customer service oriented. We arrived at 3pm and our room was not ready till 5pm. The only way to get food was at the bar as all the restaurants were closed. The best one with a very famous sushi chef was closed for the holidays and this was not conveyed on the website. Our room was upgraded to a King Suite (Thanks Platinum) but we discovered that all of the suites back up against all the elevator shafts and there was a constant banging and humming from this throughout our stay. Not a relaxing environment. On the positive side, the grounds were beautiful and the view was outstanding. Now, if the room was quiet it would have been enjoyable. One last thing, at 8a.m. sharp on New Years day the maid started banging on the door yelling "room check" waking us up after a long night out. Poor customer service and restaurants, beautiful setting. January 3, 2013

Too bad you couldn't actually see the fireworks from the hotel combined with a horrible experience from beginning to end at your hotel. Holes in the drapes, dirty sheets and horrible customer service at the front desk. Couldn't get a hold of anyone at the front desk to let them know how horrible our room was, had to call the 800 number and they couldn't even get through! I was told by Desiree (supervisor) that she was moving us to another room and would call us back in 10 min to confirm which room. Never heard from her and when I called back, she left for the day. Talked to Eldrige & was told "we were busy, it was New Years Eve." Had to sleep in a double bed by myself, (too small to sleep with my husband in same bed) dirty sheets and holes in the drapes. Thanks for ruining the surprise trip I arranged for my husband. Never again!! January 3, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Wonderful ! The whole experience was wonderful! Exactly what we needed for our vacation. My family and I were here for 4 nights from Dec 28- Jan1. We caught the shuttle from the Westin on the strip in Las Vegas to the Westin on the Lake . The contrast between the Strip and the Lake was amazing, it was a breath of fresh air to get out to the Lake A service we used a lot was the shuttle that could take you to the strip 4x a day, or the 24 hour shuttle that could take you to the nearby village which had restaurants, casino and shops. You have the best of both worlds, all the excitement you want on the strip and then back to the lake to relax and see natural colors. The resort was beautiful, with fountains and greenery, and not over the top decor. Resort room was clean and comfortable. The The best part was the staff was more than willing to help you, and very kid friendly. I definitely want to come back in warmer weather when we can fully use the pool and try out the lake. This resort is a gem and is probably one of the best kept secrets in Nevada. January 3, 2013
Rated 1 out of 5 by Unsatisfied I stayed at the Westin for New Year's Eve. Not only did I originally book a lake view room, and paid for the view nonetheless, but I also paid for a room elevated. In other words, I paid for an upper-floor room with a lake view. However, after they overbooked their hotel, they down-graded me to the first floor with a parking lot view. Let me tell you how happy my girlfriend was (sarcasm). In any event, we went to Rick's cafe for dinner. They had a special menu for New Year's Eve. Much to my dismay, however, I ended up paying almost $150 dollars for two meals which tasted like absolute garbage. In fact, I don't believe Rick's cafe knows how to cook fish or chicken. And, since when does a diner, that might as well be called a rest stop, have a menu with $60 meals and $20 appetizers? I'm guessing the same cooks that make grilled cheese and french fries are the same ones that are cooking my pecan crusted halibut. To me, it sounds like the restaurant and the Westin took advantage of the day by jacking up the prices for, essentially, the same quality of food. January 3, 2013
Rated 3 out of 5 by Did not meet my expectations I've been to many Westins in the world and this one just did not meet my expectations. Yes, the hotel decor was beautiful and the people at the front desk and at the restaurant were pleasant, but any time, I asked for something (1 hour extended check-out, a tiny amount of laundry soap, more towels), the answer was either no or sure, but it never occurred. My family stayed at the hotel from Christmas to New Year's Eve and the place was dead - like zombie dead so there really was no excuse not to accommodate our few requests. Granted the hotel became 95% booked up just before New Year's Eve when all of a sudden the buffet finally opened up, and the kids could play Wii. The food at the hotel is not that great with the exception of breakfast which you just can't mess up! You definitely need a car in this remote area and the Village is quiet as a mouse with more than 90% of all the stores and restaurants being completely closed. In a nutshell, this place just did not do it and would not come back here even if you paid me to. January 2, 2013

Rated 5 out of 5 by Beautiful The Westin is Beautiful. We were not at the hotel much but next time will spend more time there to enjoy the amenities. The fires were lit at night and the sunrise was beautiful in the morning. Kristen at the front desk was outstanding and went way above and beyond each time I spoke with her. Rated 5 out of 5 by Mediterranean in Vegas This palatial facility has everything you could ask for in pure elegance and beauty, from the lake view rooms with spectacular sunrise serenity to the quaint and picturesque shopping Village just down the road, it almost makes one feel as if you've been transported to the Mediterranean. In light traffic, this facility is a solid 30 minutes from The Strip, but an uncomplicated drive for those jaunts to the Las Vegas Boulevard scene. Unless you're a highly-credentialed drunk driver (like Denzel in his recent movie, "Flight"), make sure you've got a good designated driver. The Westin offers a shuttle service. December 24, 2012

Rated 5 out of 5 by Unexpected Pleasure The Westin at Lake Las Vegas is an excellent alternative to staying on the Strip. The resort is about 40 minutes out of town in a planned resort on man-made Lake Las Vegas. Great rates and service, and a peaceful retreat from the craziness of the city. Good for golfers, with several courses near and for those who want to limit their time at the casinos and shows. December 10, 2012

Rated 5 out of 5 by Exceptional I have stayed in hotels and resorts all over the world and have never received greater service than I experienced at the Westin Lake Las Vegas. Everyone from the front desk to the groundskeepers went out of their way to make my stay comfortable. It was a real pleasure, particularly compared to the attitude of hotel staff on the strip in Las Vegas who tend to be rushed, and tired of tourists. I will definitely return to this oasis in the desert. December 5, 2012
Rated 3 out of 5 by Nice Hotel, Had a Few Issues Property is very nice. Stayed in Suite which had everything we needed. Its quite a distance from the village but they do have a shuttle. HD TV didnt work and it took staff two visits to fix. Also, breakfast vouchers dont cover most breakfast since resturants onsite are $$$. Food was so, so. Service was good. First time at Lake Las Vegas and the whole area is a bit odd since its half vacant. November 28, 2012
