Rated 4 out of 5 by Nice hotel with very friendly staff We had a most enjoyable stay at the Westin Portland Harborview in early July. It is located in a part of Portland that is a bit of a walk from the Harbor. However, the hotel provides a shuttle bus. The neighborhood is a little questionable outside the hotel. Fine during the day, but probably would not venture out at night alone. Many homeless waundering the streets and asking for money. July 8, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Best Hotel in the area of Portland, ME By far the best hotel to stay at when in Portland ME. Excellent check in staff, who helped with every detail of our stay. Nice newly renovated hotel. Excellent restaurant on the ground floor. Timely valet staff. The only thing I can complain about is that there is no swimming pool, and the shower pressure is too low. Rated 3 out of 5 by Beautiful hotel; needs better staff I give this hotel 110% for its beauty and its location - recently renovated with good views and nice rooms! However, the service at this hotel fell below my expectations, especially because of the Westin name. The first day we were there we were out of our room for the entire day; when we came back, the room had not even been cleaned! Mistakes happen, I get it, and the hotel compensated us with free breakfast. However, when a mistake is made, it is expected that no further mistakes will happen. This was not the case. The second day I left a note with the housekeeping tip stating I wanted a new robe and extra laundry bags. The maid took the money, did an unsatisfactory job cleaning the room, and then did not provide the robe or laundry bags. I brought this to the hotel's attention and nothing was done to correct this problem or compensate us. Further, the valet and bellman were wholly disorganized. It took 35 minutes for the bellman to come to our room at checkout and 30 minutes to retrieve the car. This Westin experience overall fell below what I expected from the Westin brand. July 7, 2014

Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent customer service and good location The Westin Portland was extremely helpful and friendly during each interaction. The front desk staff was helpful with restaurant suggestions and with any questions we had about things to do and how to get around Portland. The front door and valet staff were also very friendly. They always greeted us with a smile. They let us know to expect it to be busy the next day because of three wedding parties leaving. They suggested we send a text for our car 45 minutes in advance. These types of suggestions save a person time and waiting while on vacation. This is a really nice hotel - well kept and modern. It is conveniently located in Portland as well. We had a few drinks at the bar and they were really good. The bartender was very friendly. Overall, I would recommend this hotel. June 30, 2014

Rated 2 out of 5 by Not Enough Thought Put Into Renovation Really, really disappointing. A great opportunity missed. The renovation could have been so much better--so much more inspired. Instead, it is bland and unremarkable and feels as though the hotel still needs to be renovated. Everything feels low end. The design choices were ill-chosen: muddy colors that don't look like they coordinate, awful tile, cheap shower enclosures, horrible quality bedding (the sheets were very rough. I put a towel from the bathroom over my pillowcase each night so I could sleep.) In room amenities are almost no-existent. Even motels give you lotion. They only had shampoo, conditioner, and a bar of soap. It's like they are not even trying. Housekeeping seems to be lacking because the rooms simply do not feel clean, in particular the bathrooms. In fact, we had to change rooms at 11:30 at night because our room had bedbugs. The staff handled it quickly and professionally by changing our room, but we were offered no financial compensation for our trouble or for having to wake our son (who has epilepsy and his sleep is crucial to preventing seizures) up at 11:30 at night while he practically sleep-walked to the new room. We called for our car 15 minutes before heading down to the lobby one morning and waited another 35 minutes once we got there. Really?? It's Portland not NYC. It's not like there was traffic. Why couldn't they get the car to us quicker? We were 45 minutes late for our meeting because of the car delay. Our son was exhausted from changing rooms in the middle of the night and not getting a solid night's sleep and it was pouring out so we decided to go up to the rooftop bar/lounge to get something quick to eat so he could go to sleep. It was absolutely FREEZING in there. FREEZING. We waited patiently for the server to return and take our order after delivering our drinks but the server never returned. It was so cold we couldn't stay there anymore so we left and had room service. It was disappointing as well. Honestly, there was nothing we liked about the hotel. We would never stay there again nor we would we recommend it. Such a shame because we are in Portland 4 times a year. We were hoping the Westin would be our new destination. It makes me wonder who was overseeing this renovation. It should feel crisp and new and perfect (it's only been open a few months after all), but it feels lacking in every way. July 1, 2014

Rated 5 out of 5 by Everything was exceptional ! I just can not express how perfect every little thing about the Westin Portland Harborview was. Every single employee we encountered was focused on making our experience exceptional. Our every need was met. I am so happy that our daughter choose the Westin for her family to say. As stressful as the wedding was the staff at the Westin was there to assist not only with a smile but a true desire to make our stay pleasant came through in their attitude. Our entire family thanks you all !! June 23, 2014
Rated 2 out of 5 by Not Ready For Primetime! A potentially perfectly renovated historical hotel in the heart of the Portland Arts District. Many employees including some in management positions do not know how to fix problems or interact with the public. There is no concern for guest schedules and the importance of time. For example, a one hour wait for valet to retrieve car; a full day/s to get housekeeping items and services. AC's blow directly on beds which is uncomfortable. Some rude employees and others extremely helpful. Communication among hotel staff is needed. Slow checkout with hotel confusion about bill. Internet keeps cutting off/not reliable. Room service horrible although C2 restaurant is terrific. Had to beg to get sheets changed after week stay. May 25, 2014

Rated 4 out of 5 by Front Desk Staff AMAZING Standing in line to register, I listened to staff help an Italian-speaking prospective guest find a room in another hotel that was less expensive than the Westin since he did not want to pay for a room at the Westin. Talk about outstanding customer service. I was so impressed that she would do that and have shared the story with many others. June 20, 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by New Hotel Needs Some Warmth The new Westin in Portland, Maine hasn't found its groove yet. It is well-appointed, but has no personality. It could be anywhere, or any institution including a modern assisted living facility. It doesn't highlight Portland, especially the museum and downtown area. It feels upscale-ish, but is not particularly welcoming. The staff was professional and caring. It's the hotel design /decor that needs to be more inviting. Wifi, local magazines, art, shopping, restaurant info should be offered. June 6, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Wonderful stat, but.... In terms of customer responsiveness and comfort the hotel was great. However, our first introduction to the hotel was lacking. We drove up to the hotel, and parked in front of a sign that stated "Guest Registration Parking". We went into the hotel to register. A young man came running in after us, saying you can't leave the car there, give me your keys. He did not identify himself as a valet. We suggest the sign on the street read, "Please wait for the valet before leaving car to register". The valet stated later that he has had many people make the same comment. Why do you continue to risk guests starting off with a negative impression. May 5, 2014

We were so impressed with the complete, high quality renovations. The staff were all very welcoming and nice. The Top of the East outstanding. We had a wonderful time. Thank you so much. June 3, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Beautiful rooms and great bar on 15th floor. We feel it is ridiculous for a hotel to not offer free wireless. Also, wanted to get a Coke and were told there were no machines and the only way to get it was room service. The person at the concierge desk was less than helpful or cordial. June 2, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by NYC Prices without being on Times Square $4.00 for a 12oz cup of coffee? $13 for a half size normal omlete? or The biggest issue $24.00 for overnight parking and it was not mentioned in my reservation. The biggest dissapointment was that I thought we were able to walk to the harbor, but no way at least 2-3 miles. On the 15th floor you can see the Harbor. Staff and room were excellent. May 31, 2014

Rated 4 out of 5 by Eastland Do-Over! We recently stayed at the new Westin in downtown Portland, Maine. We have been frequent visitors to Portland and were anxious to see the new hotel as we had stayed at the older one several times in the past. It was non peak so the hotel was not that full. The staff were very attentive and extremely helpful. The room was nice although smaller than we expected. We were disappointed that Wi-Fi was a $10 per day charge. We are SPG members and that fee should have been waived in my opinion. The hotel was a little over priced compared to similar hotels in the area during non peak times. Overall very clean and a great improvement to the city! April 18, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Noisy-and "nosy"- bathroom vents On several occasions I overheard a conversation between a couple in another room through my bathroom vent. They were speaking quietly - I suspect they were in the bedroom rather than in the bathroom.... I could hear TV in the background and entire question-response type conversations. I only caught occasional words and not detail, but it did make me wonder if others in the hotel were hearing my conversations. Friends at the same conference overhead very loud and explicit language from another room on several occasions. I understand that $55m was spent on renovations - it is too bad that this detail escaped the planners. Otherwise the facilities were great, staff helpful, beds super-comfy,etc. April 30, 2014

Rated 3 out of 5 by Good, but ... The staff was VERY responsive. Decaf was not resupplied, but when my husband phoned it arrived in 10 minutes. Ditto a bench to hold our suitcases. However, $25 for parking in Maine??? Awful. We parked on the street. And for a complete remodel, the architect missed some basics -- like all the steps it takes to get into the lobby and then up to the elevators. Ramps are hidden -- have to ask to find them. Rated 4 out of 5 by Comfort and Good City Location 4 night leisure stay at The Westin Portland Maine Harborview, comfortable facility, all the amenities provided, SPG Green Choice available with points or coupons offered.Within walking distance, if you like to walk, of several restaurants and museums. I bit of a walk to Monument Square and Old Port district but very doable. Shuttle offered. Friendly staff, great menus and service in both the Congress Squared downstairs restaurant and upstairs Top of the East lounge/restaurant. Very helpful front desk personnel. Room was comfortable with spacious bathroom and shower. Rooms could use more drawer space for clothes and the closet set up was very inconvenient for hanging clothes of any amount. Overall a very good modern redo of an old historic building. Kudos to Westin for retaining the flavor and architecture of the city. May 14, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great experience - will return The facility, contained within a historic 15 story brick Portland landmark structure, is new, thoughtfully designed, and well placed for exploring Portland. Most impressive, however, were the young staff. To a person they were thoughtful, well-trained, and seemed empowered and honestly interested in offering us a great experience, whatever it took: the front desk, the parking valets, the room staff, the staff of both the C2 restaurant (excellent breakfast) and the 15th floor bar with a panaramic view of Portland and Casco Bay. As occupancy inevitably increases at this fine hotel, please do not let that service standard slip. We look forward to our next stay. April 1, 2014
