Great location, friendly and helpful staff, and nice lobby. The only negative was that the bed was too soft for my taste. I recall the Westin Heavenly Bed in other locations being very comfortable with a good balance of support and plushness. Perhaps my preferences have changed, but it also could have been that specific mattress.

As a platinum I was upgraded to a very nice room that had plenty of space. It is a historic hotel so it does have an old feel about it, but it doesn't feel dated. The paint is fresh, the carpets are nice and the bathroom was quite good and clean. The free platinum breakfast option is very nice - coffee (espresso is an upgrade you have to pay for), pastry, fruit and yogurt. The fitness room is surprisingly nice as well... Overall, I really liked this hotel and will definitely stay there again.

I arrived very late in the evening (2am), and the front desk looked like they would rather be doing other things. No mention of platinum membership or what I'd like my amenity to be. After I was handed my key card and wished a good night, I requested the breakfast amenity at their il Fornaio restaurant, which turned out to be the most spartan platinum breakfast I've received thus far in my SPG journeys (essentially fruit, a muffin, maybe 3 spoonfuls of greek yogurt, and coffee & juice).
I had a rather narrow and cramped feeling room that looked out onto another building directly. Okay, can't really be upset here, I arrived very late and there was a large conference going on across the street. Just keep in mind these rooms are here and there's a decent chance you'll get one.
I was awoken at 6am by my neighbor having a rather animated conference call that the walls didn't do much to dampen. After tossing and turning for 15 minutes I decided I may as well check out the gym. The gym is pretty bare -- ellipticals, treadmills, and dumbbells up to 50 lbs with two benches. No other weight machines to be found. You have to get creative.
At the end of the day I'd only recommend this hotel if you're attending a conference across the street. The breakfast amenity is a joke and is severely outdone by the cheaper Four Points at San Jose airport just down the road. The rooms are also more comfortable there too, and I received better front desk help.

I stayed at the Westin San Jose for 3 nights and it felt like I was in an old extended stay hotel of some sort. The room was tiny and the decor was outdated at best and hideous at worst. The breakfast at the restaurant was overpriced (not surprising) but also cold. One of the nights I stayed, I came back to my room to realize there was no power and needed to change rooms. The staff handled it fairly quickly but they mentioned they had a outage earlier; disappointed the issue wasn't proactively handled. The toiletries in the room were the worst quality I have seen at any Starwood Property. I travel to San Jose fairly frequently and was excited to see a Westin opening but this was a total disappointment.

I travel frequently for both business and pleasure, and I have to say this Westin was pretty mediocre. I realize the property is in a historic building, but the rooms are incredibly small. To put it in perspective, I've stayed in bigger rooms in Midtown Manhattan and downtown San Francisco. On top of that, I received a room that faced the ugly backside of the property. Since I was only staying for one night I didn't care too much, but if I had been at the property longer, I definitely would have requested a different room. Finally, the food options and amenities are pretty limited. Il Fornaio (a mediocre Italian chain restaurant) is located in the lobby, but that's about it. Overall, I probably would choose a different place to stay next time I'm in San Jose.

From check in with Lindlsey to checkout was excellent. Special consideration should be given to the housekeeping staff who take such great care to make sure the room was clean, tidy at all tines

everything was good with the hotel except the valet. It took them 20 minutes to get my car and they told me it'd take 5-10 if I called ahead.
neighborhood is a little sketchy though
