LEARN MOREWhat has RSS got to do with it?
RSS stands for Real Simple Syndication. The RSS feed is a special Web page formatted for RSS readers. An RSS reader, sometimes called an RSS aggregator, is a program that displays the content, usually headlines and article summaries, of the feeds to which you subscribe. We offer feeds for our W Happening events and our exclusive offers.
To receive an RSS feed you will need an RSS reader. There are many different versions, some of which are accessed using your Web browser, and some of which can be downloaded to your computer. All allow you to display and subscribe to the RSS feeds you want.
How do I get this RSS reader?
The RSS reader receives all the RSS feeds you have selected and displays them in a format similar to e-mails displayed in your inbox. With each new event that we publish on the W Hotels website the RSS feed will include all of the event titles and the abstracts for those events, with links to the full event detail. Usually the reader also indicates whether you have already viewed a particular event.
There are many different RSS readers, some of which are accessed using a browser and some of which can be downloaded to your computer. Once you have selected an RSS reader, you can sign up to receive the latest W Happenings events. W Hotels does not endorse any particular Web site or RSS readers.
How do I find and choose a Reader?
What reader you should use depends on your own needs. Often it is best to try several out before deciding which you prefer. Needs which differ include how many computers you use, how many feeds you read, how you’d like to read the feeds, etc. If, for example, you use multiple computers, then you probably want to use either an online reader such as Bloglines, or an aggregator that allows you to synchronize across multiple computers, such as NewsGator. Some people find it convenient to read RSS feeds in a program that they are already using. For example, My Yahoo! has an RSS module, and NewsGator integrates into Microsoft Outlook. Some people prefer an aggregator that shows new items as a news ticker on their desktop, and others prefer a full-fledged application to read RSS feeds in. I should also note that the aggregators mentioned on this page, with the exception of NewsGator, are all free to use, at the time of this writing.
