Transportation Options

Why not walk? W Barcelona is just steps from main attractions such as Old Town, the Born district, Old Harbour and the Barceloneta boardwalk, so explore on two feet and see more—the city is an open-air gallery of abstract, modernist, avant-garde and Catalan art, from public sculptures and murals to installations and architecture. For more far-flung flings, the Metro is an excellent underground subway system, efficiently well-connected to every corner of the city with easy signage. Taxis are also plentiful and reasonably priced, and will take you from the hotel to the main shopping areas of Sagrada Familia and Passeig de Gracia in 10 minutes. Who thinks four wheels bad, two wheels good? Bicycle lanes allow you to ride like the wind in the heart of the city.

Where to go? Our Whatever/Whenever® service has maps, transportation schedules and directions galore for every nook and cranny in Barcelona. Need a ride? If you're visiting locales outside of town, we'll be pleased to help with car rentals or other private transportation. For a more unique experience, go up, up and away to the Tibidabo mountain or Montjuïc, site of the 1992 Olympics, via funicular railways.

There's no better way to get to W Barcelona from Barcelona El Prat International Airport (BCN) than by taxi, whisking you to our doorstep in just 30 minutes. Barcelona is also serviced by regional airports Girona and Reus, 103 kilometers (64 miles) and 110 kilometers (68 miles) from the city respectively, where most European budget airlines fly to. It takes approximately 70 to 90 minutes by bus from these airports.

Want to arrive in style? Allow Whatever/Whenever® to take care of any of your transportation and transfer details, to and from any of the airports or train stations.

If you are traveling by car, please see driving directions, from the airport or any other location.

Getting Around

  • By Bus

      • Bus
        • Tickets cost between €1.30 to €1.50, and are purchased from the driver.
        • To go directly to the Plaza Catalunya, Las Ramblas and Passeig de Gracia areas, hop onto bus lines 17, 39 and 64 from the bus-stop outside the hotel. Buses run frequently at five- to 15-minute intervals, with one-way fares starting at €1.30 and multi-ride passes available at all Metro stations, but can be at the mercy of slow-moving traffic. Routes and timetables are clearly marked at each stop, and note that most buses stop running before the Metro does.

For night owls, the bright yellow Nitbus is an extremely useful service that runs between 11pm and 4am—often the only option between 2am and 3am, when taxis are rarely available.

  • By Subway

      • Subway
        • The underground Metro subway system is the fastest, most efficient and convenient way to make tracks around Barcelona, with a comprehensive network that links up with the bus system. The closest station, Barceloneta, is a pleasant 15-minute walk from the hotel, or a five-minute bus ride—just get on lines 17, 39 or 64 from our doorstep. Subways run frequently at five- to 15-minute intervals, with one-way fares starting at €1.30 and multi-ride passes available at all stations. In the city center, most stations are no more than a five-minute walk from one another, so you're better off getting from one attraction to another by foot!

  • By Taxi

      • Taxi
        • If a taxi on the street has its green light on, it's ready to go places with you! Cabs, easily identified by their black and yellow colors, are easily hailed on the street and run by the meter. However, take note of day and night (after 8pm) rate differences.
