W New York - Times Square
The Living Room Bar
Bask in the transformation of our lobby’s iconic Living Room. Reimagined by Josh Held Design in partnership with Starwood’s award-winning design team, this place to see and be seen is a sultry yet playful tribute to the Times Square of the past—from the gilded theaters of the 1920s and ’30s to the neon-soaked scene of the ’70s and ’80s.
The heart of this venue is populated by smoked bronze glass and mirrors, antiqued brass, blackened metal, velvety fabrics, and high-gloss lacquers. Glistening chandeliers reflect light onto gold-spotted, curtain-inspired wallpaper.
At center stage is a brass-and-dichroic glass DJ ball inspired by the diamond pattern of Times Square’s New Year’s Eve ball. By day, the ball acts as a decorative screen; by night, it rotates to reveal a glistening, luminescent DJ booth that changes color according to one’s viewing angle. Strike a pose in the nearby photo booth that transmits images not only to @livingroom_wtsq on Instagram but also to mirrors in the WCs.
Appreciate the dying art of neon with a head-turning installation designed by Lite Brite Neon, one of New York’s last remaining neon studios. Running the entire length of the 39-foot bar is an animated, illuminated homage to Times Square.
Graffiti and street artist Lady Aiko was commissioned to create a mural that runs along the corridors leading into and inside the women’s WC. Gaze at this hand-drawn history of Times Square, from the showgirls of the ’60s to the androgynous New Wave kids of the ’80s.
Take a seat in one of the built-in tufted, skybox-inspired banquettes. Additional gray seating has been designed in a serpentine pattern, and nine cocktail tables fill the center of the room. Mix and mingle at the abstracted communal table disguised as a grand piano.
Peruse a refreshed menu of specialty cocktails created by the forward-thinking team at indieFORK. The Sunset Park Mule comprises Herradura Reposado tequila, spicy ginger beer, sangria tincture, fresh-pressed lime squeeze and citrus spaghetti; The Rush Hour SideCar has Remy Martin cognac, blood orange puree, pickled strawberries and house sour; and The Washington Heights Manhattan is Hudson baby bourbon, homemade habanero vermouth, grapefruit juice, black pepper, hopped grapefruit bitters and brandied cherry sprinkle and garnish.
