Rated 1 out of 5 by MIAMIJC Not up to par for a W
I didn't know the hotel was under renovation, But having construction crews in and out and the noise were definitely a major downside. The hotel lacks facilities, no bar or restaurant that you would expect at a W. I ordered a meal on my arrival and there weren't many options. Service was very slow, I ordered soap and was brought a teaspoon (cappuccino size) until they could find a soap spoon. The room was beautiful but the W touch was missing? Why wasn't the frig stocked? Where were the amenities and snacks the W usually has? How about a bottle of water? Don't get me started on the parking situation, $60 to park? Not even in MIAMI. But that's ok if the hotel was providing exceptional service, these guys are rude.

The hotel is under construction so the typical public space that I enjoy when staying at a W were not available. I understand construction needs to happen but if given the choice (company booked hotel) I would have stayed elsewhere.

Rated 3 out of 5 by DJDJ61 Over-priced, under delivered
Did not receive the type of room guaranteed. Everything was overpriced. Poorly planned renovation schedule. Lights in hallways were non-existent. The quality of the rooms are camouflaged by "fru-fru" décor.
Very disappointing experience for such a great city and location.

The keys repeatedly refused to work, resulting in a constant parade back and forth to the impromptu front desk, No soap/shampoo in the room, which I discovered as I was stepping into the shower. I then had to stop, get dressed, then peruse the hall for a maid's cart to raid. (I was afraid to go downstairs, as I was afraid that, once again, my key card would fail, resulting in another parade tot he front desk.

The W hotels have a great reputation and I love staying at the W! I have spent so much time at the W in Bangkok - which is awesome!
But regarding this one - I wasn't told of the renovation work. Being a light sleeper, I couldn't sleep through my night because of the early morning construction. The room had no water when I came and the

The hotel was under construction, which is fine. My room was pre-renovation and was really beat up. Everything was worn, it wasn't stocked with all of the standard W amenities and was just overall below par for a W. The staff, especially at check in were not welcoming, helpful or friendly, There were no status upgrades available. Parking seems overpriced for the neighborhood.

I had read a number of negative reviews and was nervous about going to this hotel given the current state of construction. However, even though the entryway and lounge were a bit pieced together, the staff was friendly and helpful, our rooms were clean and quiet. I could see the need for renovation, as things were a little worn, but overall, everything was nice and our stay was enjoyable. The hotel also has an incredible view and is in the perfect location for Chicago travel. I hope to visit again when the hotel is finished!

I was disappointed. wasn't aware of renovations, room wasn't as tidy, issues with getting in the room on several occasions, No bathrooms on the level w/ check in, bar, and restaurant, and plumbing issues at the end of the stay. I HAD SEVERAL STAYS PRIOR AND I WOULD HAVE NEVER EXPECTED THESE ISSUES ;EVEN W/REFRESH AS I WAS TOLD THEY USED ON THEIR SITE FOR RENOVATIONS.. I'm almost certain that HOPEFULLY my next stay will be more pleasurable.. By the way I enjoyed BLISS SPA ( thanks for that day it took my mind off the negatives for awhile )

Rated 2 out of 5 by southerncal they have moved my stuff to another room
I've stayed at the W Chicago Lakeshore from 2/20/14-2/22/14. I was shocked after I came back from the meeting on Friday night and found out all my belongings were gone. It turned out they have moved my stuff to another room( without any notice or discussion with me??!!), they brought them back in about an hour and thankfully I didn't lose anything but a cookie. I was supposed to check out on 2/22/14 and I talked to the manager(I called to address the issue of Friday night), he offered to leave the belongings in the room and he would extend the check out time until late afternoon, however, when I came back, the key wasn't working. I had to make another trip to the front desk. the hotel now is also under construction. some construction noise from 9 am till 4 or 5 pm. the lake view from the room was nice though.

We stayed the night to celebrate my husband's birthday. The hotel is really under construction so we were bummed not to be able to hang out in the front of the hotel overlooking the lake. That said, we still really enjoyed staying at the W. The remodeled room is wonderful! The staff was great. Can't wait to come back when the remodel is finished.

This hotel has serious issues. Lacks quality in comparison with the W City Center although it has the same GM. Billing issues and service issues. I asked for Advil (it took 30-45min); front desk lines are long; I never get upgraded even though I'm Platinum; front desk staff are unprofessional and lack training; accounting department doesn't return calls; room decor doesn't meet W standards; and the list goes on and on...

Hotel cleaning staff was very unprofessional. Never refilled my coffee station, never placed a new bottle of water, never placed a new bar of soap and one lady once dared to give me the coffee pads and cups from another room's trash that was placed out in the hall. The hotel was under heavy renovation during my stay, which wasn't announced ahead of time. When I requested a room the following morning in a more quieter section of the hotel I got placed a few floors down but the noise was as bad as before. Moving to another room after that was no more an option because they were "basically full" but there were still rooms available online. The only good thing that happened during my stay at this hotel was the response I got from the Operations Manager after emailing my complaints. She was very professional in her response. However this stay is not one I'd want to experience again.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Jana424 Great hotel; housekeeping issues
Always a great hotel and renovations are needed, so happy to work around the disjointed lobby etc knowing it will be better next time. However, when I went to my room at check - in (7pm Sunday night), there were room service trays all over the hall needing to be picked up. There was an overflowing tray outside my room, making me wonder whether I should try the key....the room was in fact clean, but those trays were rather disgusting. When relaxing in my room, I saw dirty silverware under my bed. Yuk. Hoping this is just a moment in time and the housekeeping staff is working around construction, leading to some issues. Again, normally a great hotel and well located.

Rated 1 out of 5 by MG7975 WORST W Stay EVER!
The hotel is "under a refresh"" via website is an understatement. It is confusing, & unstaffed. The winding confusing hallway takes you to a desk in the bar area as the "lobby". The room is worn, smoke smelled. The bathroom has a mildew odor and shower curtain has a strong odor. I will NEVER stay in a W again.....a pity as I have and loved my past W experiences, but I feel they've downgraded to a 1-2 star motel now.

Good location, everything else is subpar. This hotel should not be flagged a W. Low popcorn ceilings, tired decor, very dusty rooms, horrible bathrooms. Far and away the worst W I have ever stayed in and I would caution anyone who is looking for a "nice" hotel to steer well clear. Staff was good, but they can't make up for the property.

I was told in telephone conversation that a Pet Friendly policy was a Pet Bed, dishes/bowls, treats. None of these items were delivered. Also Pet Sitter was available. Was told not the case when we arrived.
Fridge in room unplugged, never got cold. No "MunchyBar".
$60 per night Valet Parkin? Seriously...

Lack of communication and follow through regarding accounting policies. Renovation was not communicated at the time of booking. The bathroom sliding door leaves a significant gap exposing anyone who is using the bathroom. Did not feel valued as a loyal spg member and W Lakeshore frequent guest.

Here is how I gauge if a hotel is getting 'old'. They spray the worst smelling perfume cleaner in every room and in every elevator. The sweet smell of cleaner was overwhelming and disgusting. What are they trying to hide?
I had to leave my room door open for 1 hour each night to try to get the awful smell out.
Also, water pressure in shower is horrible. And when was the last time you were In a shower where the shower rod wasn't curved to give you a bit more space while showering.
I've been staying at this hotel whenever I visit Chicago for the last 6 years but sadly, I'm moving on.

We had a great stay here. However the hotel was under renovations and that we didn't know before arriving. Which left us a little disappointed because we would have liked to enjoy the hotel fully we really wanted to see the view from way up but that was all shut down. Our view from our room was nice but a little obstructed with the buildings around could see some of the city. The staff was amazing and helped us with everything we needed. Big shout out to the welcome desk manager Peter Ramos he helped us a lot. Great guest relations with him.

Rated 1 out of 5 by SFOTravelers NOISE Unbelievable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Never again!! The noise was unbelievable every night. Security called repeatedly. The young crowd & "drunk-fest" was a problem at 3 am, 4 am, 5 am, 6 am despite multiple visits from hotel security. Noise in hallway carries throughout & paper thin walls. The manager Adabel was professional & courteous about rectifying the problem & bought us breakfast but we'd much rather have had sleep & relaxation. The guests were finally asked to leave hotel but not before they pounded on doors yelling at the guest "!@#$ you all" for getting us kicked out. The 2nd night guest spent the wee hours of the night calling each other the "N" word! Interesting clientele.

When I booked my stay there was no mention of the hotel being remodeled and under construction. The entry to the hotel reception was very unappealing. The restaurant we were eager to use, was now in a basement with no view. The bar looked like it was in someone's basement, which it was and also was unappealing. My room was next to the elevator shaft so I heard noise all night. The shades on my window were broken and the light in the makeup mirror was also broken.

Dirty room, 1427
No soap or shampoo in room. Called front desk, yet nobody delivered replacements.
Construction, loud and unexpected.
Seemingly untrained people at front desk. After the typical, mechanical exchange at checkout, I explained my experience and the response was "that's too bad".
"Hip" theme isn't working. Without a refund, will probably not return.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Catty Great location
I stayed there with my sister who is a Platinum member so she got upgraded to a suite. The room overlooks the navy pier and the night view was magnificent. The room was very clean and spacious.
One big complain I have is the rude valet service, they were inattentive to our arrival. After we called them over and asked if it's okay to park the car there for few minutes since we were would check in and go somewhere else, they said yes but will need to put it in the lot if it's more than 10 minutes. That's reasonable, however, as we were grabbing our stuff in the car, the repeatedly (with the voice raised each time) said "You gotta pull up to the curb!" number of times even I told them we're just grabbing stuff in the car. They didn't even help us with our heavy luggage in the trunk.

This was the worst hotel experience I have ever had. Staff mis-informed, and clueless. What hotel doesn't empty the trash or replentish towels as part of the general customer service? Especially for the price. If I wanted to stay at a Hostel, I would have. When I spoke to the manager, it was obvious he didn't care a bit. "Sorry." is what I got from him repeatedly. No effort whatsoever was made to rectify anything. I had been looking forward to staying at this hotel but I will never stay at another "W".

Lobby is small and with 3 check in stations, only 1 person ws checking guests in. There where 7 in line and one staff dedicated to organize the line and tell people when to go to the counter. That person would do so much better at a check in desk. The facilities are rundown. The furniture is all scratched, wall paper pealing, window treatments are poorly designed and of little ease of access and use. Lighting is very poor and the sheets were horribly hard. At the bathroom, supplies are scarce, we only had one bar soap for two people three days, not even one for the shower and one for the sink, just one. It was a big disappointment and not the quality I would expect com this brand and for the price paid.
