Rated 3 out of 5 by San Fran W Stay Unfortunately our experience was underwhelming. Both my wife and I had stayed at W Hotels across NA and the San Fran experience didn't live up to our expectations. The room was tiny, the walls were paper thin, the bed covers and blankets were falling apart. Overpriced and under achieved. I don't know if our experience would have been different in a different room, but we would not repeat the experience. Thanks for considering our comments. September 20, 2012
Rated 2 out of 5 by Off experience This was a bad experience at a hotel that I normally really enjoy. I had to wait 15+ min to check in because only 1 person was working the front deck despite a long line of weary travelers. My room ended up being next to the ice machine which was ridiculously loud. When I complained the first night the staff graciously turned it off but the 2nd night I was told that it was on a timer that shut off at 11pm and there was no flexibility. Being on east coast time and traveling for work I wanted to go to sleep ahead of 11pm and found the service lacking in empathy. They were clearly booked to capacity but thats no excuse for bad service. August 23, 2014
Rated 2 out of 5 by Old, tired and overpriced How on earth do you have the audacity to charge almost $500 per night and squeeze your "guest" for room email access and a bottle of water? Charge for your room, which is pretty run down, but stop squeezing pennies. Also, not once but three times, housekeeping just walks into the room!!! How about a knock and an announcement of who is coming in?? (YES, 3 times). The closing insult is a $280 quote for a car to the airport. Really? A regular taxi was 80. You needed to attempt to squeeze us for another 200? The novelty of your brand has diminished, Cool vibe bar and overpriced everything only works if the quality is there. What a let-down August 12, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by people make the difference have stayed here multiple times, with kids, and despite the trendier clientele here, our family of 4 always get the red carpet treatment. We needed some swim goggles of all things so the kids could enjoy the pool, and Robert from the Bliss Spa not only tracked some down for us, he hand delivered them to us at the pool. I thought, wait am I back traveling in Asia? I haven't seen this level of service in a long while. April 1, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Service This hotel went out of their way to provide a long lost feature-- SERVICE--- We were delighted. I forgot some items I needed and they actually sent someone to the store to get them for me, without charging. That is unheard of in the USA. Being provided with water, coffeemaker and just good attentiveness was a delight. This was my first stay at a W Hotel and now I am sure there will bge many more. Thank You February 19, 2013
Rated 1 out of 5 by doesn't feel like W hotel. I have always loved W hotel, but this one really does not meet the standard of W hotel. The hotel is very small and very crowded. stayed with my husband this past weekend, the first day they only give us one small bottle of shampoo, I have to call to ask for additional, 2nd they gave us two conditioners but no shampoo, I waited for 15 minutes, finally they brought it up. when I got out of shower i found out they did not give us any bath towel, I had to use hand towel to dry myself. When I call to ask them for bath towel for my husband, it took them another 15 minutes, don't remember if they even apologized. Sat evening we went back to the hotel with friends for a drink, all the table were either reserved or roped off for opening bottle only, they have all the table open but hotel guest has no place to sit. we end up had one quick drink and went back to the room. very disappointed. Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent Was very happy with my stay here. The staff was very friendly and I had no issues with any part of my stay. They had very good recommendations for entertainment and restaurants. Room was very clean and the view was amazing. It's definitely worth getting an ocean view. I have stayed at a few SPG hotels in the area (there are around 5) and this was by far the most enjoyable. August 13, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent Sara at the front desk was warm & welcoming when I walked up for check in. She was so professional, helpful, and a great first impression of the hotel. She also recommended Trace restaurant for breakfast; and helped me with scanning document and mailings. I was so delighted with the level of service and what was the most convenient hotel for my business travels. June 18, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by The W Staff was incredible Everyone at the W were so helpful and friendly. I had to postpone my stay for a week and the Manager, M. Pace was very understanding and let us come a week later. We were treated royally from the moment we step out of the car. Everyone remembered our names and we never had to ask for anything except for the car when we had to leave. We'll be back soon. September 17, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Stay Level of service is amazing with solid follow-through and up. The Acura service/promotion was great; we were fortunate to be able to use it last minute. Staff was great in helping us get through the heavy traffic surrounding the hotel area. After running a half marathon that morning we're starving. Our room service dishes were very good! Rated 5 out of 5 by Great The stay was WONDERFUL!!!! We were placed by the construction - being awake at 8am because of the construction noise while on vacation was not ideal, but understood as the city was compressed. Maybe a corporate traveler would be better in the construction rooms. June 3, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Last night in San Fran Stayed there on the last night of my vacation, lovely Bliss spa treatment, really relaxing. The only bad thing was that the water pressure wasn't strong enough... which is quite unexpected. But other than that, everything was magnificent. Staff was great, the room decor was really unique, etc. Definitely worth staying there! May 19, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great location The hotel is starting to look a little run down and from an eating perspective, choices are too limited. We know that parking is expensive all over SF, but $60 per night to park a car just seems a bit excessive. Staff was great and we received some nice notes and gifts from hotel during stay. Rated 2 out of 5 by Not worth it. I've been to other W's and very muched liked the experience, ambiance, and quality of the room. Unfortunately this W does not even come close to the other Ws. The A/C felt like it was blowing stale air all the time. The bed covers were very uncomfortable and felt like plastic. Not what I would expect out of a W for $317 / night. Overall the room and the hotel feels old and a bit run down. You can see mold between the tiles in the bathrroom. I also had the pleasure of seeing the construction of the new musuem 6ft from my window. Everymorning I could see the construction workers peering into room. September 12, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Beautiful, modern hotel The location and accommodations here were excellent -- my daughter and I were able to watch the New Year's Eve fireworks from our large window (complete with window seat!) and we loved the stylish furniture as well as the foot massager under the desk. Other perks included the small gift given to my daughter at check-in and a bottle of champagne for New Year's. I was somewhat surprised that there wasn't a kettle in the room, although Whatever/Whenever promptly brought one upon request (I like to have hot beverages throughout the day.) I didn't expect there to be as many scuffed and scratched areas as there were (in the bathroom, on the cabinets, etc.) But my biggest disappointment was that the hotel charges $14,95 a day for basic in-room internet. That is astounding when you consider that virtually all other hotels (including budget hotels) provide free WiFi. To her credit, the guest service agent checking me out removed the charge when I questioned it, but this fee seems to be unnecessarily petty of the W. January 2, 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by Disappointed This is our first night at the hotel, another three nights to go. We are disappointed already. This hotel is not family (ESP kids) friendly. The front desk staff is not friendly. The bed size is too small, the bath tub is not clean...... Not recommend for family holiday stay November 30, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent Rooms and Staff Very nice rooms, especially the corner rooms with a cozy corner area for having drinks, chatting or playing a board game. Staff were very friendly and helpful with everything. The South of Market location close to Union Square, MOMA and nightlife is also very convenient. November 25, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Well-designed, professional staff W Hotel San Francisco is the best W I have stayed in. The rooms were stylish and comfortable, the view out my window was great, the proximity to shopping and sites was perfect, and the hotel staff members were very friendly, helpful and intuitive to the guests needs. Rated 5 out of 5 by W=Wow Had a great 5 days at the W. Any question and just about any request was greeted warmly and quickly. This hotel is ultra hip and mostly quite young. Trace restaurant has great food and concept, however service was a bit slow on Sunday for their "Brunch". July 7, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great hotel have stayed here many times. excellent location and service. dined at restuarant for breakfast and dinner most days and service was excellent and food great. only issue was the elevator/lift noise we experienced from our corner room on 30th floor July 22, 2012
Rated 2 out of 5 by Terrible customer service experience The main issue was that they didn't check us in until 4:30pm, were not particularly apologetic and made no effort to try and reduce the inconvenience this caused. I've stayed in every starwood hotel in SF and the W has the worst service. August 1, 2012
Rated 3 out of 5 by OK place ... look at other properties, first Bliss spa was terrible !! We also had hot water issues and on one day had not hot water at all !! A comped movie doesn't make up for not being able to have a shower ! Bar staff is not consistent with drinks. Hotel feels a bit dated. January 2, 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by Dog issues First time at a W hotel. Disappointed as there was a barking dog next door. Also when I asked for herbal tea to go with Keurig machine, we were delivered caffeinated teas and one decaf Lipton (ugh) tea bag. Probably will not return. November 30, 2013
Rated 3 out of 5 by Poor management I checked into this hotel having been forced from our hotel in Napa due to the earthquake. The person at the desk was very unhelpful and we had to wait several hours for a room...My Platinum status was not acknowledged in any way. The whole hotel was taken over by a large group who kept the bars (both) and living room area tied up so it was nearly impossible for anyone else to get a drink or a snack. The room was tiny and not remarkable in anyway....but over $600/night. No restock on the bath products. Housekeeping closet was next door...door constantly slamming shut. Overall a disappointing experience and not what I have come to expect at a W Hotel. I would not return. August 27, 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by Going downhill fast...... Very disappointing stay! I have stayed there over 20 times before but it seems this hotel is going downhill. Maintenance of rooms is poor! Suggest you go elsewhere - this hotel is no longer worth the money! February 14, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by W For Wonderful Frequently stay in Starwood hotels in Asia, first stay at W San Francisco. Hotel meets all expectations and consistency for W standards. You will truly get a good nights' rest at this particular hotel. August 28, 2012
Rated 4 out of 5 by Lives up to W expectations I like this W, I really do. Via Platinum status, I've been spoiled over the past few years with some pretty sick upgrades (on a consistent basis). I didn't get much of an upgrade here, but that didn't stop me from seeing value in this property. I was also really disappointed that my Suite Night Awards didn't go through--as I saved them specifically for this stay. Location: central to lots in SF proper. If you don't know the area well, this is a good point to base yourself (to be able to explore). Be sure to take advantage of the free Acura service (they take you TO, but not pick you up). We were in a Cool Corner Room. Decent views. Impeccably clean. Great Asian-inspired design with some fun features. Was surprised to see a normal old school tub (no walk in shower). Comfy W bed. Cool seating area (invoking a Bay Window, I'm guessing?). Great service, of course. We had bikes and they took care of them with no fuss (and for free). The Living Room is hip (and often hopping) (HA). Lots of OOONCE OOOONCE, especially on weekends and late nights. As always, the Bliss products are heavenly. July 10, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by excellent as expected All features for comfort were attended to. ipod charger, desk top amenities, food and snacks. Bathroom and bedroom very well kept. Bathroom toiletries should include a shower cap though. October 18, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by The Attention to detail and service is always amazing! I recently stayed in your property during my business trip ion September and you are the only hotel i stay at while in the SF area. But this time it was beyond incredible! I have Gluten and Dairy allergy and your staff is always accommodating and makes me feel "safe" when ordering room service or going to your restaurant where i always have the pleasure of speaking to your Chef to ensure my order is perfect and they are super helpful. This time my needs were a bit more complicated as i was preparing to compete in a bodybuilding competition and needed to travel with my meals and had strict requirements when ordering from Room Service and the restaurant. Gordon Kramer reached out to me prior to my to stay and he ensure he would have a microwave and fridge in my room upon my arrival and of course it was! i wasn't "surprised", but i was so pleased that you always meet and exceed my expectations. Then upon my checkout at 4am, i arrived at the airport only to realize that i left my purse in my room by accident and of course your morning staff from front desk and bellmen i believe quickly reacted and got my purse in a cab and made it in time to the airport for me to catch my flight! The way you make your guests feel taken care of and at a "home away from home" truly needs to be recognized! So i thank you and Gordon for a Lovely stay yet again and cant wait to see you all soon!
