Although I knew there would be a minimal parking rates, they are extremely high and unfortunately was never given amount of parking until we arrived. When I asked what my other choices were of where to leave our vehicle, they said there really was none. If I would have known, flights were cheaper than parking for us; I would have flown.
Water pressure for the shower was non existent; I was told they are a "green" facility. For the amount of the room I should have received water pressure and or free parking.

Rated 3 out of 5 by ElOso Needs a little work on the service
For this level of hotel, I expected a little more in terms of service. On check out I called for a luggage cart to help take my luggage downstairs. I waited for 15-20 min and finally grew frustrated and we hauled our luggage down ourselves. Once in the lobby and in the carport, I had to hunt down the valet to hand my ticket over. Lobby staff seemed to be in a state of disarray.
Suggestions: Upon check-in I should be asked when I was expecting to check out. When calling for a luggage cart, I also expect to be asked if I needed assistance and/or how much time it would be to get a cart to my room (if it will be delayed). There should be someone dedicated to guiding guests to their transportation (Taxi, valet, etc). Great service means anticipating the needs of your guests, and delivering to meet them.

Rated 3 out of 5 by rojowop Good location but questionable service
The location is solid, close to MOMA, Union Square, and plenty of quality restaurants and bars. Front desk staff was very friendly and helpful. Rooms are clean and modern. Service at the bar was pretty bad however. I would recommend sitting at the actual bar if you expect to get served. We were at a table and were pretty much ignored the entire time we were there. It only accounted for 90 minutes of our stay there, but it was annoying enough that I probably won't go back anytime soon.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Tickedofftraveler Beware of Erroneous Charges
Received an updated folio bill after checking out with erroneous mini-bar charges (total $75)--didn't consume a darn thing. Staff and management has thus far been unhelpful and unresponsive.
Have had to take the standard route of constantly following-up to ensure the correction of charges. Thus far, I'm 4 phone calls and an e-mail to the manager into the process--still without resolution.
Cautionary tale to make sure nothing is billed and to review your folio (even after checking out), as weird charges can "suddenly" appear.
Can't believe I've arrived at the point where I'm that guy who says, "I need to speak to the Manager," but am at my wit's end...
On an unrelated note, rooms are small and lack the design element of other W properties, but I suppose I shouldn't expect a ton from a SF property.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Lynne2731 Why this is my favorite SF hotel
Let me count the ways this became my favorite San Francisco hotel:
1. I asked for Perrier in my room, and it was there when I arrived.
2. Restaurant and room service were fast and outstanding. Food much much much better than typical Starwood.
3. The beet salad and duck breast are not on the room service menu but they will make them for you -- and they are phenomenal. I ordered it two days in a row. And try the cookies!
4. Hotel provides a charging station by the bed that works for all phones! I didn't need my own charger. Great idea that should be in all rooms.
5. Staff goes out of the way to accommodate any needs. Allison in the restaurant was especially helpful. Thanks, Allison, for the treats.
6. It is convenient to the convention center (next door).
This is truly one of Starwood's best properties.

First timer at the W in San Francsco, and I'm thoroughly impressed. Not only did they go above and beyond my expectations, but they continued to greet me with a warm smile and acknowledged me anytime I made eye contact.
The atmosphere is similar to that of a Virgin America flight, which makes it feel like they were gearing for a younger, more affluent market.
Service was excellent. I'd definitely come back, although I didn't get a chance to try any food downstairs.

Great location and excellent staff. The rooms are small - even the so called upgraded rooms are tight. One of the best hotel breakfast menus I have experienced all year. Restaurant staff were first rate. Lobby bar is "scene" and loud but once you get to your room silence is the only thing you will hear.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Vincos Everything a Top-of-the-Line W Should Be
OVERALL IMPRESSION: This property has the uber-chic design and fabulous artistic sensibility that one expects from a W but with the service standards and attention to detail of a grand hotel.
SPG RECOGNITION: We used a Suite Upgrade Certificate and we assigned a Fantastic Suite - and it was! In-room amenity was a lovely fruit arrangement. We left too early to enjoy the Platinum Breakfast but did appreciate the complimentary Coffee in the Lobby.
THE ROOM: 27th Floor, two bathrooms, six pictures windows (including in one of the bathrooms!) overlooking SoMa, whimsical art and beautiful design...what’s not to love?
LOCATION: Next to Mario Botta’s masterpiece Modern Art Museum, seconds away from the Moscone Center and the Metreon...this is the heart of SoMa.
EXCEEDED EXPECTATIONS: Everthing!
DID NOT MEET EXPECTATIONS: Nothing!

I was very excited to be staying at a W hotel for the first time since they have such a great reputation but excitement turned to disappointment. First thing walking in the door I noticed that the carpet in the room was stained and wrinkled, not a good first impression. Then I noticed that the art work in the bathroom was covered in dust and, worse, a long dark hair. Ewww! The next morning I was disappointed to find that there was no coffee maker in the room. The second night of my stay was Halloween and there was a huge, loud party in the hotel lounge. I was staying on the 8th floor and I could hear the music in my room. Since I was in San Francisco for work, not play, this was not terribly amusing. Overall, I was really surprised and unimpressed with this hotel and would not stay here again, even if my employer pays for it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by MindyL Incredible staff!
We were pleasantly surprised at the helpfulness and dedication of the staff. In general, the San Franciscans are very friendly, which for us New Yorkers was a novelty!
I did find the room to have an odd smell, probably because the windows are sealed so it never gets any fresh air.
We enjoyed the heaven jacuzzi on the fourth floor, the adorable and comfortable window seats in our room, and the location of the hotel is also terrific!

Rated 1 out of 5 by NYCItalian House Keeping or Points Option for Platinum ?
I came in for the US Open and upon check in the hotel did not have my platinum # on file. After providing my number I was asked if I wanted 500 points or house cleaning?
I stated that the 500 points is part of the Platinum program and had nothing to do with house cleaning.
The young lady at the front desk then said, you are right. The next morning I left for the day and came back late on Thursday (6/14/12) to find my room had not been cleaned nor the bed made. When I called the front desk they stated I could only get 500 points or house keeping and was told the lady that checked me in on 6/13/12 had given me incorrect information. I will avoid ever staying in this hotel again as a 400 night + Starwood Platinum member.
Of final note the bar waitress was rude on 6/13/12 and the service was lousy even with a ~$200 bar tab with clients.

Rated 4 out of 5 by LoraE Convenient location
The W is conveniently located, easy access to all the tourist destinations. There's an Acurate car service at he hotel, with a reservation, a driver (in a brand new Acura) can drop your party off within a 3 mile distance to the hotel, they do not pick up though. I thought the room and bathroom looked a bit dated, but the service was pretty awesome! We did not care for the room service food, didn't care for the oat meal, and pancakes we ordered.

Rated 4 out of 5 by GretaGirl1 Spacious rooms, lots of amenities
The spectacular room was very spacious with great work and relaxation spaces. Terrific bathroom with good lighting and lots of room for my things. I had a 16th floor view of the Bay Bridge which has a light art exhibit for the next two years. The only thing that needs improvement is that the carpets need to be cleaned. I moved a side table and was shocked at the difference between the clean carpet under the table and the dirty carpet elsewhere.

Rated 4 out of 5 by TravelinKen Trendy Property Across from Convention Center
I have stayed at this property a few times before. It’s across from the convention center and even if you aren’t coming for a convention it’s located in a popular part of town just a few blocks to Market Street and just a few more to shopping or Chinatown.
The property is on the new side and the staff are very professional. The hotel is trendy and the lobby is always busy. The rooms are comfortable and I enjoy how quiet they are.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Robbie52 Excellent Property in a good location!
Your typical, hip and trendy W property in a good location just south of Market. Bar scene VERY cool and sheik. Staff at reception quite friendly and service was good. The rooms are a bit small but I had a good view so no complaints. Bed was a bit soft as I prefer a firmer mattress. Perhaps mattress needed replacing. Also, of the 4 pillows, only ONE pillow was down/feather and my preference is documented on file as "down or feather." Not a huge big deal, but nevertheless a slight subtraction here with respect to housekeeping.
Bathroom quite small but nicely appointed. Weak water pressure, and would have liked a shower with more pressure. But overall it was a nicely appointed and comfortable room, with excellent staff attitude. I'd recommend for sure, and would give it 4.25 stars if I could. Very good hotel, simply not "over the top" 5 star.

Rated 5 out of 5 by MAllstar Short, but great stay
We stayed just a single night, though wish it would have been longer. The staff was extremely helpful on check-in, upgraded to a corner room with great views on request. The newly remodeled rooms are tastefully done, though slightly eclectic in some ways (to be expected from the W) and felt surprisingly spacious.
It should be noted the sliding bathroom door does not afford much in the way of privacy to the rest of the room if that's a concern.

W Hotels all seem to be very modern with style and theme. The croud seems to be the late 20's and thirtys. Nevertheless a nice hotel, with a cool and hip crowd. The front desk/check in area is small and confusing. Hotel bar area is very loud and busy, especially at night. Rooms, small and clean, I would expect more elegance for the rates charged, but it is SFO... Staff is hit and miss, some great and some not so great. Overall a good hotel....

I have stayed at many W's throughout the us and this one ranks almost at the bottom. The upgrade to a spectacular was cramped for 2 double beds. The hotel was almost empty as it was Christmas but they upgrade was miserly. The restaurant was very good but the club atmosphere is dated and the music was really loud.
I most recently stayed at Ft. Lauderdale was awesome-there is no caparison in terms of accommodations. This hotel needs updating.

stayed here for Christmas and loved it ! Initial check in went well, priya I believe that was her name checked me in ! so nice so helpful, concierge was also so helpful ! the Acura experience was perfect !
only complaint a young server at the xyz bar, she was very very rude she ignored us when i asked her for water she gave me the meanest look. It was so rude that i ended up taking my order to the room to avoid any other rude looks by her.

The W truely represents the sophisticated and glamour aspect of the San Francisco market. I found the room to be a little cramped, but somewhat expected for a City like this. The view from my room was obstructed by several buildings, and the accomodation small and a bit noisy during the evening by the guest going to the elevators and the traffice from the street below. The atmosphere in the lobby was active, and the staff very attentive.

Not quite sure if W San Francisco was 2nd or 3rd to be built... but it definitely needed the renovation... this was my first stay since and they did a Wonderful job with it... lobby is great, the new lobby bar is fantastic and the rooms are oh so W.
Three nights on an SPG50... upgraded to a Corner... room was great -- love the new Buddha nightlight... (check out my instragram photo if you are curious)
Trace -- the food is fantastic... the service was a little wonky. i was there by myself doing work... the restaurant was empty and the waitstaff felt like i should sprint through dinner. Courses were getting stacked in front of me seconds after my fork dropped from the last one...
Lobby Bar has an excellent range of drinks, beers, wines, etc... not crazy priced...
Sweat was under construction but they offered us use of St. Regis...
Cant wait to go back.

We stay at the W as much we can where ever we go.
This W was very different from that latest ones we visited. It seemed to be an older building given the W touch and it works great. the pool area could do with some updating but the rest of the hotel including the rooms are all great.
The staff was very helpful and the music downstairs great.
we stayed twice the same week and both room we stayed at were quiet and comfortable.

The W in San Francisco is always at the top of our list for hotel stays. The locations is excellent regardless of the reason for the visit, whether it be for business at the Moscone center, which is right across the street or for pleasure going shopping, museums, theatre or baseball, which are all near and can easily be walked to.
The W never fails with their customer service. When they say "Whatever, whenver" they mean it.

Checked in early afternoon and ordered a steak sandwich from room service. Arrive promptly, but fries were obviously OLD and COLD, also the steak was chewy, undercooked, and I suspect also left over from a previous preparation.
Front desk staff was very friendly, but made check-in overly complicated by trying to upgrade me (SPG Gold). Sent me to a room that was occupied with maintenance in progress. Had to return to the front desk to change rooms.
Finally, I discovered late that evening, after returning from a work engagement, that the TV signal in my room was not functioning properly. I did not want to deal with maintenance personnel, so I just did without that evening and the next morning as I prepared to depart.
I usually enjoy this hotel, but do not often find rates that fit my budget here. I hope this experience isn't indicative of a new trend at the W SF.

Rated 2 out of 5 by MG40514850 Avoid this hotel if you dislike noise
Loud music plays in all public areas of the hotel, day and night. This includes the lobby, restaurants, breakfast area, and even the pool and hot tub area. It is impossible to have a conversation with a colleague in any of these areas. It's really overwhelming to be met with loud music downstairs as early at 6:30 a.m. I had to brace myself each time I walked through the lobby and fled outside as quickly as possible.

The location of the W is very good. We walked to AT&T park (15 min.) for a game as well as to 25Lusk ( A fabulous upscale dinner house 3 blocks from the stadium) for dinner. Great location across the street from the Moscone Center. Parking will set you back $60 per night, a little steep, even for San Francisco.

My room was not as expected for an SPG hotel. The floor had a large stain on the carpet and the shower had mildew between the tiles.
Also my room was not cleaned until I returned at 5PM and asked for it to be done.
The staff as always is great.

This hotel does not measure up to other Starwood hotels. As a Platinum member I expected more from this location as I was traveling here utilizing points while on vacation. It was such a disappointment. This W hotel location is lacking in service. It's unfortunate that I utilized points for my entire 3 day stay. It was such a waste. It was so bad that I will never stay at this location ever again.

This was the best stay ever at the W. The crowds were and the staff was more available and attentive. As an SPG Golf member, I received an awesome upgrade to a corner room. It was gorgeous.
I got double charged on my bill for dinner, which was rather unpleasant. The car service doesn't begin until noon and was already booked, so that could use some improvement.
Overall though, this the best stay ever at the W.

Came there with my husband and two small children, we were a bit worried with the kids but the staff made us very comfortable. We slept in for the first time in ages, the beds and pillows were very comfy. The room & bathroom was exceptionally clean (I'm a clean freak). The bliss products in the bathroom were like the cherry on top. Y'all think of everything! Love the hotel and will be returning again and again.
