Rated 4 out of 5 by Clean, but small The employees were excellent. The room was very clean, but small. January 20, 2014
Rated 2 out of 5 by Very disappointed in Chicago (City Center) location!!!! I was expecting a top-notch experience and was deeply disappointed. The staff was friendly and attentive, but the facility was far from stellar. The thermostat was installed directly next to the window, so never had an accurate room temp reading. Being in Chicago, this caused the heat to be blowing, non-stop, even when the thermostat was switched to OFF. After getting out of the shower, I had to crack the window open to get the room to cool off. This just caused the thermostat to blow more hot air since the thermostat thought it was only 44* in my room, but it was likely near 70*, which is too hot when getting ready (especially when using the blow dryer). Engineering came and switched out the thermostat after the first night of getting little sleep (had to open the window in the night to get the room to cool off, but had to listen to the howling wind all night...which is quite loud in Chicago). Even with a new thermostat, the system continued to blow hot air and I had to continually have the window cracked open to cool the room below ~ 75*. The room was extremely small and two people could not stay there comfortably. The bathroom counter was so small that you were forced to use the toilet as additional counter space, which is extremely disgusting! The counter was so close to the toilet that the toilet seat would rub against the toilet paper roll hanging on the side of the vanity. There was a shelf under the sink, but it was completely used up by the towels and blow dryer storage. There was a dressing mirror, but no other options for putting on makeup or doing my hair outside of the matchbox size bathroom since there were NO electrical outlets near the dressing mirror. The TV would not come on the first morning that I was there. I placed a call to ask them to look at it while I was at work. I don't know if they ever did, but the TV did come on that night. Much to my dismay, the TV would not come on the 2nd morning, though. The engineer ended up having to change out the TV. After the engineer changed out the TV, the light installed inside the wall unit (built in with an inspirational saying) would not turn off, so I attempted to sleep with the light on all night as I was already in my PJs and did not feel like being bothered to call a THIRD time to engineering. All three nights were anything but restful and relaxing. January 18, 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by An ok stay The room was fine, the bathroom small but the hallways were not so nice an a little dirty. The room garbage can was not emptied and the carpeting could have used a good vacuuming. The gym was very disappointing - small, not enough equipment for the number of guests using it. I got to the gym every morning at 5:30 just to beat the crowd. The staff was friendly but it didn't feel like what a W should feel like. January 18, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by stay at the W This hotel is near the opera that we attended and also the train station. Cab service is not needed when we tay at the W. We like the hotel for its location especially in Winter. The hotel maintains a high standard and comfort. the staff is always friendly and helpful. Check in and checkout is very efficient. Rated 5 out of 5 by W City Center Chicago The staff was extremely helpful -- particularly John (maestro of the lobby), and George at the concierge desk. The front desk upgraded our room without our asking, and put us on a higher floor. Bottled water was plentiful, the gym -- while not huge -- was larger than those at many similar hotels. I appreciated the hotel package that included valet parking and drink coupons. All in all, I was very satisfied. January 13, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by W Chicago City Center - Great place to stay Friendly, welcoming staff. IPO Restaurant has excellent food. Overall pleasant stay for business or a fun weekend in Chicago. January 11, 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by Probably not the best SPG option in the Chicago area Not a terrible experience, but I doubt I'll stay at the W Chicago City Center again any time soon. Certainly not again if I ever have a car with me. Vallet parking was ridiculously expensive! The hotel lobby was very dark each time I went through it. (I think this must simply be part of the overall "W atmosphere", but I don't enjoy it.) Service at the house restaurant was very slow and portions (though tasty) were very small. The room was nice, the bed was comfortable, and I always appreciate bathrooms that include bath wash and not just bar soap. However, I didn't appreciate the lack of bedside power outlets. Decent workout facility. January 11, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by A dream come true wedding My daughter had her wedding on New Year's Eve at the "W". It was fantastic. The staff helped make this a dream come true for my daughter and her new husband. The facility was elegant and everyone was extremely attentive to all of our needs. If I had another daughter, she would get married at the "W" too. Thank you. January 2, 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by Trying too hard to be cool Lobby is too small to hold partys in or get-togethers. A fire hazzard waiting to happen..you can not get into the hotel or out when they have these functions. Nearly impossible to hear the converstaion with the front desk or the concierge, can not get to the elevators. The rooms are dated and they dont have normal amenities, like a cofee maker. All-in-all I would recomend another hotel..this place is trying to hard to be cool to all of the wrong groups. December 22, 2013

Rated 5 out of 5 by Clean Friendly Wonderful from the time Ernesto took my car check in friendly and fast Private party in the great room and the coordinator was WONDERFUL and accomidating great experience I've had in a long time!!! December 16, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Outstanding Property, Outstanding Service I was in Chicago for two nights and the W was the most convenient SPG property for my meetings. From the moment I arrived and through my departure, the hotel staff provided exceptional service. Of particular note was the staff at the front desk and restaurant (including room service). My only issue is that I still have trouble with the limited surface area of the bathroom countertop. Convenient or not, I have decided to make the W Chicago - City Center my hotel of choice whenever I am downtown. December 15, 2013
Rated 2 out of 5 by Bad room I was put in a downgraded small room, and all they offered in compensation was 500 starwood points, which was not sufficient. There was loud train noise in the room from the local L train and it was really loud and disruptive to my stay. When I addressed this upon checkout to the hotel staff, their response was "We hope it's better next time…thanks". There probably won't be a next time at this hotel. I am a Startwood Gold member and there was no service at this hotel and I paid $250 for a bad room with a train running through it. I reallly have enjoyed W properties in the past, and was really disappointed with how they handled my stay this time. Todd December 13, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Another solid stay! This was my second time staying at the hotel, and it was another solid stay. The hotel is well situated in the business district, and well-positioned for a 2 hour walk to see some stunning architecture in the loop! It's also close to the metro and the L train. My room was big, and had a comfortable desk to work on. Bed was super comfortable and there was a walk-in closet (awesome!). Internet connection was really good. All-in-all the room was perfect. I'd like to give a special thank you to Erwyn who checked me in. He also found me a "normal" hairdryer so that I could do my hair properly. Thank you! Happy travels! December 13, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Enjoy the Lobby Lobby is a great place to relax and enjoy conversations with friends. December 12, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Cool Hotel This hotel blends good amenities with a great vibe. Parking rate is over-the-top at $60/day, but otherwise we enjoyed our stay and liked what the hotel had to offer. December 9, 2013
Rated 2 out of 5 by Do not recommend. The staff is terrible, by far the worst experience I have ever had a hotel before. The staff will treat you like crap; the only thing that made this hotel somewhat tolerable was the manager Chris. Chris did his best to try and turn our experience around but it did not work. Rated 1 out of 5 by Horrible room, excellent bar tender No upgrade, noisy room, had to change rooms twice - -was offerred a cool room on 3rd floor next to the train. Bar tender was african american and was superb November 22, 2013
Rated 2 out of 5 by Staff was insincere and unappreciative of my loyalty to Starwood. Concierge was way off and trivialized our request. This hotel is all about the bar Hotel was all about the bar and did not care as much about the loyal SPG members. Concierge had his own agenda and was not helpful. November 19, 2013
Rated 3 out of 5 by Staff Mixed Bag I am a fair easy going person, but found some staff down right rude and unhelpful. Other staff members were exceptional. November 18, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great Location and Features Had a great time; a bit noisy because of the train, but overall, I had a blast. Super comfortable, spacious room. Great drinks and atmosphere in the lobby bar as well. November 18, 2013
Rated 1 out of 5 by Where do I begin? I am writing this on sunday at 4:30 pm waiting for someone to show up to clean my room. It seems they forgot to do so today. My room card had to be replaced four times in four days because it failed to work (no, it wasn't near my phone) I ordered coffee from room service at 4:15 and was told it would be there in 15 minutes. 30 minutes later I had to call to find out where it was. the early morning staff couldn't give me directions, once they appeared from the back room. the gym in this hotel is substandard. the equipment is dated and in ill repair. Does anyone even care? The hallways on my floor, 22, go days without vacuuming. I finally had to pick up the debris myself, Besides that, its a fine establishment. I will never be back. Rated 3 out of 5 by Room Problems I have stayed at this W before and not had similar issues, but there were a number of problems with my stay this time: First, the clerk at the desk offered me a "quieter" room overlooking the interior courtyard, or a room with a nice view of the city but where I might here the El. I chose the latter. To my surprise, the room had no view (it actually overlooked the interior, but I also heard the El. Second, the heating controls did not work properly. You could reset the temperature and it would go on for a few minutes, but then it would not stop and would not re-engage to maintain the correct room termperature. Third, the bed comfort was just ok. I have stayed at many Westins where they have been great. This one was not, and the bottom sheet kept coming out. November 15, 2013
Rated 2 out of 5 by Great location but.... The hotel is in a great location and sadly thats the only nice thing I can say about my stay. After being ignored at check in for over 10 minutes, I was handed a key to a room. Upon entering the room, it was obvious from the strewn trash and the unflushed toilet full of urine that the room had not been cleaned. Upon contacting the front desk, I was given a different room. The remainder of my stay I noticed an overall lack of cleanliness with the hallways only cleaned intermittently. I was at the lobby of the hotel when it began to down pour, I asked the concierge if we may borrow an umbrella to which he responded there is one for purchase in your room. Not what I would expect from an SPG hotel of this standard. At check out, I was once again left standing by an empty reception area for someone to arrive. I mentioned it to the concierge that was within eyesight of my location and all he could say was that someone will be with you. Another 10 minutes passed and no one arrived, I asked the concierge if he may actually call on someone to help the ever growing line of people to which he got off his personal cell phone and called someone. Will not stay here again, travelers beware. November 7, 2013
Rated 1 out of 5 by No soundproofing Had a room near the "El", train noise so loud, hard to sleep with good earplugs in. Lobby area could be updated, loud and kind of dark as well (it is a W I guess) November 5, 2013
Rated 2 out of 5 by Expensive and Dirty The room was clean, but the lobby and lobby bathrooms were trashed. The drinks at the lobby bar were ridiculously expensive. The morning after our stay the lobby was trashed with beer bottles, bottle tops and cigarette butts all over the floor. The lobby bathrooms were trashed and no cleaning was happening until after we left the hotel, which was 7:30 am. Coffee was also not available until after 8 am. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. For the price we paid, everything should be neat and clean and services should be offered early. November 4, 2013
Rated 2 out of 5 by Nice location, room was dirty Location is great, but the room was not consistent withe the image of the hotel. The floors wee dirty, the batrhroom was tinier than in previous stays. November 4, 2013
Rated 2 out of 5 by Unplesantly Surprised My husband and I were SOOOO excited to stay at this hotel. It was our anniversary, and I put that in the notes on the reservation, it was not recognized at check in. I was asked at check in if I needed her to go over the information about the hotel, and I was like ahh yes of course. Not engaging at all. We were put in a room in the corner by a creepy fire escape!! I had to ask to switch rooms....mind you it was our anniversary. Get to the new room, and did not notice until daylight the next day that we slept on a dirty cover!! I spoke with housekeeping and security (they sent him up with housekeeping), a front desk person, and the front office manager and NOT ONE PERSON OFFERED ANYTHING as far as service recovery. I asked if anything would be done and the Front office manager gave me his card and told me that the next time I come in to town give him a call. What makes you think I'm going to stay there??? Very disappointed!! October 30, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Well Worth it The W city Center, in the heart of beautiful chicago is my favorite hotel to stay in. It is beautiful, the rooms are clean, the staff is friendly. This hotel is well worth it. October 26, 2013
Rated 3 out of 5 by Great staff!!! I am not a big fan of this hotel unless I get put in a Spectacular room or above because the bathrooms are so tiny, among other issues I've had at this hotel with rooms. However, the staff at this hotel truly make a difference! Tyler Smith is the most pleasant front desk person you will meet. He almost instantly remembered me and on my next visit anticipated my needs. He always gave me extra bottled water, remembered my name and did it all with a smile! Tyler is an asset to SPG. It is rare to find such pleasant hospitality employees that can recognize and anticipate a guests needs. Good job, Tyler! October 21, 2013
