Rated 3 out of 5 Designer forgot what room was for
There is only 1 small drawer for clothes and a smallish closet so plan to put your clothes on counters or live out of your suitcase. There is no clock to alert you in neverland. The bathroom has no towel or clothes hangers except for a low hand towel bar, the shower allows a paltry flow of water and the sink moderne is a lovely big dish with a fancy side handle which is impossible to accurately adjust for temperature, so go with scalding or cold. It was nice to lie on the lounge by the window, but a blanket would have been great! The bar has very uncomfortable seats, hard and built for looks, though service was good. We repaired to a local bar.

Rated 4 out of 5 The W is Still Hip but Becoming Dated
I like staying at this hotel because the staff is so friendly and helpful. We stayed in a suite on the 24th floor that had a cool view that overlooked Broadway. The bedroom was large with the same view and a flatscreen TV; the bed was very comfortable. I liked the living room area with a desk, large couch, another flatscreen TV and a 1/2 bathroom. Some days the cleaning staff left us complementary bottles of water. Other days they did not. While the TV's are cool, the sound system is an average TV speaker with no place to attach personal electronics like iPhones or iPads. A complementary DVD player is provided but who watches DVD's anymore? A large selection of TV channels was available but no TCM or A&E. Also we had to pay a hefty price for music channels and other specialty channels. WiFi is provided for a price which surprises me. If Starbucks offers free WiFi then the W should be able to as well. The hotel's Blue Fin restaurant is outstanding. Reservation are recommended if you intend to have lunch or dinner at the busy times. I will come back to this hotel but I'll bring my own sound system.

The rooms were in a dreadful state - looking tired, dirty, hair on the floor, dust everywhere. Elevator noise is present in 90% of the rooms. Always having to queue to see someone at reception. A "not-my-job-attitude" by hotel staff. Shocking.

I have been an hotelier for greater than 40 years and personally I have stayed in Starwood hotels for 1000+ nights. I understand the importance of paying attention to details, and that “little things mean a lot.” When it comes to guest satisfaction, the W New York Times Square is simply the best of the best.
The most important element of any successful hotel is its staff. Everybody I came in contact with at the W was polite and well trained. Check-in went smoothly, and though I arrived early and had to wait a short time for my room, I received a phone call as soon as it was available. At check-out time I was amazed that the guest service representative did not ask for my room number – she actually recognized me and remembered which room I was in.
The room I stayed in was very clean and the furnishings were in good taste and in excellent condition. I was pleasantly surprised how quiet the room was considering it is in the heart of New York City. I am probably one of the few people that still prefer a bathtub so the shower-only was a disappointment, but I am well aware that most guests would desire the W Hotel’s large walk-in shower.
Location is important and the W New York Times Square is in the center of most attractions. I was there to see Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and I only walked a couple blocks to have a great view. Everything I wanted to do was just a short walk away. The W is in the center of the theater district, not far from the boutiques on Fifth Avenue, and near many good restaurants.
I am retired but if I were still in the hotel business I would be proud to be associated with such a wonderful hotel.

In a good location if you want to be right in Times Square. The hotel is trendy...which is not always user friendly. Very low lighting which makes it difficult to get ready to go out. It is in need of some repairs...broken tiles, not as clean as I would prefer. The staff was very friendly.
