Rated 1 out of 5 by Never Again "Pre checked-in" at around 10:00am where I wasn't acknowledged as a Platinum guest. During the FIVE (5) hour wait, every other person waiting in the lobby and every person that walked through the door was able to get a room. Was told twice that the room is almost ready and that the "stylist" is rushing. It's now 3pm and I'm still waiting. Thought a person that stayed with Starwood over 100 nights per year would receive better treatment, but clearly I was mistaken. Haven't even seen the room, but at this point, I'm only here because everything else is sold out. July 4, 2015
Rated 3 out of 5 by W San Diego I am trying the W brand for first time. Stayed three nights at Westin and three nights at W. Even though I paid more per night on W compared to Westin. But W is much further away from Gaslamo quarter. Location does not have much nearby, mostly business and a building construction right across it. Conpared to Westin: Much smaller room, uncomfortable chair, it had a large blackboard in the wall instead of a painting or something better looking. Lobby bar not great. Food i tried was okey. Overall, it is not worth the price i paid. July 4, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Hotel could have better customer service Although I am a Starwood Preferred Guest myself, a friend gifted me a free night at this hotel with her points. I was shocked to find out that even though the room was free I had to pay $42 for parking. I am also a AAA member, and you only get free parking for being a AAA member if you pay for the room. Hotels need to realize that making a guest upset over parking is not a good way to have the guest come back. The hotel also knows that there is major construction going on across the street from the hotel, but doesn't bother to tell guests that they will have difficulty getting to the hotel due to all the road closures. What is worse: the room was noisy since they gave us a room facing the construction. Talk about lack of guest service! Lastly, when I asked for a recommendation of place to go to breakfast the front desk acted annoyed that he had to look up from the computer and told me one place he liked. It is much better to say something like the 2 closest places to the hotel are these if you want to walk, but if you want to go some place really good, this restaurant is my favorite but it is a much longer walk. I feel this hotel could care less about the guests. Valets were nice but we tipped them big so they had every reason to be nice. I won't stay here again... too many other choices downtown or better yet, stay out of downtown in other areas that provide better service. July 2, 2015
Rated 3 out of 5 by First W hotel experience Overall I really enjoyed my time at the w hotel San Diego. There were really only 1 thing that bothered me. I booked through SPG.com and the website said to show your AAA card at checkin to receive 1 of 3 special discounts. One listed being free valet parking for your stay. I presented my card and the girl at the front said you cou,d only use this if you selected a special AAA package when you booked your room. Which was not true. After she argued with me for a while I finally gave up and my boyfriend ended up paying the $40 a day parking fee. Which was a lot considering we were there for 4 days. i wanted to try to talk to a manager but the girl made me feel so uncomfortable that I just wanted to get to our room and be done with it. Thankfully everyone else at the hotel seemed very friendly and very acomidating. The valet were very sweet and offered free water bottles as you left. A very nice touch. I only wished they would have honored the AAA special. Seems like a 4 star hotel should be acomidating. Even if i needed to book a special package, I think they should have given me the benefit of the doubt and given me the free parking anyways. Not sure if I'd ever go back but overall a good experience. Would have been perfect if that front desk girl hadn't been so rude. June 22, 2015
Rated 2 out of 5 by untrained front desk staff. Every time i stay at the W San Diego, the front desk staff just seems unqualified and misinformed. I was not offered an upgrade when checking in. When I checked out, I called down to the front desk to have my bill ready and split from Room/tax from other charges for my expense report. I was in a hurry and had to leave quickly. And of course, when I came down to the front desk, nobody had split the bill when I was assured on the phone that it would be taken of. It is stuff that that as turns me off as a Platinum SPG member. Rated 5 out of 5 by Fun and Hip Hotel! Loved this hotel! Great decor, great gathering spots for drinks before you hit up the night life and great staff! Hotel was conveniently located within walking distance of many things (Gas Lamp, the pier area, etc.). The only drawback is the size of the pool, very small and not very sun friendly. But I will definitely be back. June 15, 2015
