Rated 4 out of 5 by Sales007 Decent Rooms, Great Happy Hour, Far from Action
The W Lakeshore is very close to Navy Pier, which provides a great view. Also, they've renovated the place completely, so it looks much better with the spray cans, restaurant, and hip lighting in the front. It's a bit far from all of the action though, so expect to take a cab and pay $10 to get anywhere lively.
The rooms are clean, but a bit dark like the rest of the W hotels. The hallways in the W are always dark. The staff are also quite friendly in the front - when I forgot my sneakers once, they held them until I returned a few weeks later. Kudos to that service quality.
As for platinum recognition, they'll put you on a higher floor, but that's about it. Not sure if they have full suites, but it's very hard to get upgraded it seems like.
They're definitely lacking in the breakfast section, so stick to getting points. Don't expect a buffet anywhere since they barely have a restaurant at this venue. Just walk down the street to grab Indian or a sub.
As for the gym, I had issues where there were no freeweights at the time, which was frustrating. I emailed the manager to alert him of this, and even told the staff. The reason I usually stay here is because their gym is better than the Westins around Chicago. However, without freeweights and a broken bike, what could I do? No compensation was provided either for this.
I would definitely return here again. It's my #2 hotel in Chicago - if they can fix up their gym, provide more Platinum recognition, and get some breakfast going, it'd be my #1 choice.

Great W. The rooms were nice and big, and the bar/lounge area was great that seemed to always have things going on. I will definitely stay here again in the future.

Although my wife and I knew this was a really good hotel, after entering our room we were blown away with the design, the comfort, and the spectacular view of Lake Michigan and Navy Pier. It was like we had our own two bedroom Lakeshore Drive condo !! The staff was superb: friendly, quick to solve a problem, and hailing a cab was so easy due to their ace staff at the front door. A front desk manager by the name of Alex was extremely helpful in helping us solve a particular issue. Kudos to the entire W Hotel stafff !!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by arvind1983 Internet issues, unresponsive staff and bad management
I am an SPG Platinum member that travels almost each week and stay 75-100 SPG nights a year. As a Platinum member, the experience was disappointing. On Monday night, I complained about poor internet and intermittent connectivity losses and it took the Manager 1 hour to call me back despite stating it was urgent. It took another 15 minutes to resolve the issue with tech support. Again, on Tuesday I lost internet connectivity and one of the front desk staff, was rude to me when I complained and I had to be asked to be transferred to the Manager, who again took a half hour to resolve my issues and promised to move me to another room the following day. The next day, I come back and call the front desk for the room change and they say they are not aware of the request when some staff member specifically sent me an email about it. I asked them to have the staff member call me and I did NOT receive a call back when I was in the room. So, I just decided to stay in the same room and just bear with the poor internet connectivity and unresponsive staff. Also, one of the lady front desk managers promised me 10,000 SPG points as compensation, and I've still not received it even though she said she'd enter it immediately. Even though I will be traveling to Chicago for next 10 weeks and even though I love location of the hotel, I will NOT stay here again. When I tried to give feedback to W Chicago management, I received no response. Pure lack of commitment and disrespect to Platinum guests who are core of the SPG business.

Great hotel and location, but don't expect much from a service standpoint. We left a bag with the bell desk and returned hours later, being told to call the number on the tag for retrieval. After 3 calls and 45 minutes, we had to go to the bell desk and search through the rooms with the staff for our bags, having then realized that they never even tried yet. For the price of this hotel, you'd expect better service.

Rated 5 out of 5 by LauraP61 Clean hotel with a great location
I thought this hotel was very clean with a great location. Lots to do in Chicago. The only problem that I had was the check-in process. I booked my room over two months ago. When I arrived for check-in at 3:00 pm, I was told that the room was not ready. I waited almost three hours for my room. This didn't start me off on a good note. I also wish I had a better view.

Rated 3 out of 5 by SpagDoctor Not the best stay in Chicago
Whilst overall the Hotel is nice, I had a few issues during my stay. Whilst i have stayed in many SPG hotels I was a bit surprised at the fact they needed to authorize my credit card for 75% of the room charges for incidentals which compared to the Wesitn O'hare(I stayed in for 3 days prior to changing only charged $200 for the stay).
Then the first room I was put in, the bed had not been fully made, luckily I was able to get a new room with no issues or so I thought. Someone had left something in the bar fridge.
If I go back to Chicago I won't be staying in this hotel again
