Rated 5 out of 5 by AlicesDad Amazing Hotel
The Lakeshore W is an amazing hotel for those who are looking for a hot-spot with beautiful people and nightlife. I recently stayed on a Thursday night after a week of crazy travel, and I can honestly say I was too wiped out to take advantage of it ... that and I'm too old and unhip! When I checked in, I must have looked as bad as I felt, which the wonderful desk clerk immediately noticed. He asked me about my day, and I provided the Reader's Digest version of my week. He smiled and said that he thought an upgraded room might make me feel better, and he smiled when he told me to "enjoy the suite". I had no idea what I was in for.
So, I get upstairs, enter my room, and had to burst out laughing at the ridiculousness of it all. The desk clerk had updated me to what I can only describe as the most over-the-top, way too cool for me room ever. The suite was massive with a game room area - complete with foosball table, swinging chair suspended from the ceiling, and an honest-to-goodness turntable with a selection of vinyl records. There was also the obligatory massive living room, bar area, funky bathrooms and what I can only describe as a railroad room shower, where you could "get clean" with a number of your closest friends. Add the crazy "mood lighting" options, and you have the perfect room for a legendary party.
The juxtaposition of the "legendary party room" and me, a tired 5 decade old accountant traveling alone, was apparently why the desk clerk was mischievously smiling when he handed me over the room key. I can't say that I blame him. Thank you for the experience - it definitely brightened my mood!

Rated 5 out of 5 by RYYS Fantastic Stay
We thoroughly enjoyed our two night stay at the W Chicago Lakeshore and felt like everyone went out of their way to make our time there great. We checked in a little after our flight landed around 3:30 on a Saturday. Upon doing so, we were told that our room was not quite ready so we asked them to store our luggage while we went out to grab food. Within 5 minutes, the gentleman who checked us in found us as we were discussing where to get food and gave us two free drink coupons for the bar. Immediately after this, we spoke with the concierge who have us some good recommendations on local restaurants. 2 minutes later I received a call informing us that our room was ready. We picked up our keys from the concierge who asked if we were celebrating a special occasion. When he discovered we were, he said he would send up a bottle of prosecco to our room (which was there upon our return from dinner). We thanked him and headed up to our room on the 32nd floor, the highest floor that the hotel uses for guest rooms. The 33rd floor contains an event space. More on that later. We loved our "Fabulous Room" along with the view.
The location here was perfect as a home base to explore the city on foot. Being right across from the navy pier and Ohio Street Beach was great. We did not eat at the hotel restaurant but we did use the indoor pool which we really enjoyed. It was at night so it felt a little cooler, but it was still enjoyable. Overall, this was some of the best service we received from a hotel. We were able to secure a 2pm late checkout which allowed us to explore in the morning and come back and pack our bags for our next hotel.
One helpful hint which in no way diminishes our 5 star rating: like most W's, there is an emphasis on nightlife, and while there is no club at this hotel, the 33rd floor is an event space. During our weekend stay, it sounded like each night there was a wedding receptions that had been booked in the space. From the 32nd floor, you could hear some of the bass and celebrations above, but it ended around midnight each night. It was not too invasive and was absolutely worth the extra noise in order to have such a great view of the lake.
We would absolutely recommend this hotel and will stay here again on our next trip to Chicago.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Travel5 Great Location!
The location of hotel was great. Enjoyed the chairs on the porch to view Lake Michigan. Liked the modern feel and decor.
Did not care for bathroom. Really small and not comfortable and convenient. Bathtub bottom was slippery and there was no fan (or it was broken). Ran out of toilet paper and had to call to have it replaced.

Rated 5 out of 5 by SkipE This hotel is ideal!
This hotel is very well situated in an idea location that is central to everything one might wist to do in Chicago. Further, it is located on Lake Michigan and has spectacular views from its east-side. The staff was simply outstanding - so knowledgable, ready, and willing to assist with whatever the need might be.
I will definitely stay at the W Hotel on North Lake Shore Drive on my next visit to Chicago.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Notimpressed2 Tony but not up to the cost
Our room had several issues, significant cracks in the wall and plaster on the floor, shower handle that was very hard to turn, uncomfortable lighting in the room, scary wake up knock that we were not warned of. Their valet was pretty responsive but pretty pricey.
If you're not critical of where you stay, don't mind paying a premium for trendy style and want a place close to some fun activities this might work for you.
If you are expecting something spectacular this falls way short. For that kind of money I would have expected much more.

Stayed 4 nights in a "Wonderful Room" for business. I would avoid the 7-10th floor as there are condensers on the adjacent rooftop that are quite noisy. The front desk had no problem moving me to a different floor when I reported the issue and I otherwise had a very comfortable stay.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Frank4747 Staff was excellent.
The "Whatever" desk has a clever title and very helpful staff. The excellent staffing experience did not stop there. Arrival and departure desk was a great experience. Staff had great smiles and delivered quick service. The bar tender staff were quick to serve with a pleasant demeanor.

Rated 2 out of 5 by C329 Not at all what we expected!
The rooms are very small, staff was rude and seemed bothered by being at work! I would not stay at the W Lakeshore again! Very disappointed
