Rated 1 out of 5 by So bad experience at W GZ I would like to share my bad experience when I checked in at the front desk last night. I have to say it was so bad service from a five-star hotel! I was requested to provide China ID (身份证)while I was checking in at 10:30PM yesterday as I hold China passport. I explained I don't have China ID with me as I live in US for 6 years. But I was refused to check in even through I provided my US permanent resident card to prove. The Receptionist asked me to do the temporary ID registration at 10:30PM! It sounds so funny! I stayed 3 to 4 times a year at W GZ in the past 5 years and my hotel booking is with corporate rate. Either my company and I receive the notification or reminder for China citizen is required to provide China ID on the hotel confirmation letter. I booked 14 days stay till 10/21, but I am really unhappy with my stay at W GZ in these two days. I have cancelled my stay for the rest of the trip at W GZ. I still want let you know this is so bad experience for me at W GZ. October 6, 2016
Rated 4 out of 5 by Overall experience is good, however... Stayed at W Guangzhou for a weekend. Location-wise the hotel was reasonably close to the underground station, and the surrounding area is nice with a lovely park, a few shopping centres and tons of restaurants. While the overall experience was good, I feel that W Guangzhou is not on par with other W hotels, even compared to those in the same region. The room was well designed but there were many problems here and there. The toilet was smelly, the windows were dirty, the electronic curtain switches didn't work properly, etc. I did not expect to encounter these kind of problems in the W hotel chain. On the plus side, both restaurants in the hotel - Inagiku and Yan Yu were very good and well worth a visit. October 2, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Best W in Asia I have been staying at the W GZ for three years. Why do I keep coming back? I have stayed in many W's around the world and this is hands down the best one. One of the nicest and most comfortable rooms in Asia, very modern and well kept hotel in GZ's best location, one of the best lounges in Asia with a nice HH( even though they could add a sparkling wine!), excellent service ( not all staff is fluent in English but they go way out of their way to please guests) and great SPG recognition. One of the best breakfasts in China ( certainly the best among SPG hotels) both in selection and quality. September 16, 2016

I needed to have special arrangements for my breast milk to be stored in the hotel freezer the entire time I was in the trip. Thanks to the W Hotel for their very attentive staff and concierge that made my stay very easy and comfortable. September 5, 2016
Rated 2 out of 5 by Poor Details The details in my room (fantastic suite) are very poor, such as stinky smells, hidden areas (space behind the bedside table)are full of dust,etc. The overall experiences did not met my expectation of being in a suite in a W hotel. June 19, 2016

Rated 4 out of 5 by Great Hotel~ Okay the most important question: Would I come back here? answer: Yes. Of course! It's ideally/centrally located and truly beautifully designed. Staff were welcoming and very cordial. GZ is a very large, urban city. Some very good dimsum places are just a few blocks away and an entire bar street right behind the property Did I have any problems? I did but I really can't complain. There are some things that China just hasn't perfected and wont for awhile yet. I'm writing this while noting the fact that Anbang has successfully bid for Starwood hotels-whether not it goes through waits to be seen I suppose? I requested a nonsmoking room. I got one. Apparently on a nonsmoking floor. My problem is that while out on the town until early morning I was choking on cigarette smoke so was looking forward to my smoke free room. When I woke up at 9 am I could still smell smoke but attributed it to my clothes. Off to breakfast I went and when I came back a good hour later- the smell permeated the outside of the elevators as well as my room. Staff at all the W's (I've stayed at the Taipei and Hollywood properties) has never disappointed. After calling, they even sent someone to my room.... leaving out what she said I was offered a new room (declined)and I noticed on my way out they had put in an IQ air machine (top of the line in air purifiers). It's really the details in China that really gets to me each and every time I stay in a hotel-any property this isn't limited to Starwood. In this case, the IQ air machine was blinking red- filter needed to be changed. I wonder if another guest was smoking and that the cigarette smoke was traveling through the vents- then I thought back to my check in- did I get advised clearly not to smoke in the room? Sometimes these little things need to impressed on guests-not just Chinese guests but all guests. Smokers smoke -it's a very hard to break habit. Facilities are great- I used both the gym and spa and pool. Fantastically done. Maintained....well not that they arent trying. They are! But when you have moms bringing there kids in there- make a note and tell the cleaning staff to make extra rounds- moms are stressed enough they wont care about the extra water and towels they've left on the floor.
