This is my third stay at the W hotel in Barcelona. Overall, the hotel is cool, vibrant and in a very nice and quiet location but senior management needs to make some great improvements in the customer service area (checkin and concierge) and adjust attitude if they want to be worth a SPG category 6 hotel.
- Quiet location
- Great gym
- Great spa
- Great views
Much needed improvement:
- Checkin: there´s always a drama at this hotel (330pm your suite is not available or your names get mixed up in the reservation)
- Room cleanliness: major spots and unpleasant smoke stink
- Concierge area: lot of attitude when asking simple questions (I was initially refused making a reservation at Bravo 24; I had to identify as a hotel guest).
- SPG recognition: no upgrade according to SPG Platinum standards.

Lively and very modern hotel by the see, great room with wonderful view, very nice bar and lobby area. Staff very friendly, proficient and helpful.
Ideal place for young people wanting to relax and to have fun.

Obviously the unique, original and beautiful structure of W Barcelona contributes a lot to the emotion you will live during your stay in this hotel. The stunning sailing which appears on the port and the beach of Barcelona cannot leave anyone indifferent. I'm of the opinion that this fantastic structure not only fits in a natural way with the landscape along the sea but that it also undoubtedly contributes to enhance it.
I came back to W Barcelona with all my family after my first stay there in 2010. My recent stay end '14 has been fantastic !
Rooms are beautiful and modern with all necessary comfort and with spectacular views on the sea or on the city. Extremely comfortable beds that provide you an unique sleeping experience like in any Westin / W hotel.
A great point of excellence in the W Barcelona is without doubt the professionalism and extreme courtesy of its staff (reception, bar, ....) that makes you feel a real special guest throughout your stay.
Cleanliness is perfect, in the rooms and in the common areas.
To reach the center of the hotel is easy : there are always numerous taxis waiting outside the hotel and that for 5-6 euro will bring you at the bottom of the Rambla. But I suggest a quick and nice walk through Barceloneta that will bring you in less than 30' in the center.

Mostly due to an excellent starwood platinum recognition, which included interaction with the lovely Claudia before and during the stay, plus an upgrade to a Cool Corner Suite, my partner and I had a faboulous stay at the W Barcelona. It is during stays like this I understand why I work so hard to maintain the platinum status every year.
I only wish that the W hotel people would start thinking about privacy issues when they design the bathroom. I do not want to share or hear what's going on in the bathroom when I am travelling with someone!
And please add a coffee maker to the room. Having to require this (plus call every time you need coffee refills or filters) is just silly. So is the 50 euro deposit that is needed to get the hotel to lend you that rather old and big coffee machine.

This is the 2nd chance my wife and I gave to this W.
The first time was 2 years ago, the hotel was pretty new, so we thought that some littles problems can occur, it's normal. We decided to give it a go, and booked a new stay at the W Barcelona this august.
Unfortunaly, nothing has changed.
I say I must agree with all that is written under "one star" overall rating.
- Line at the reception lasts for ever
- Room was not ready (we knew that, because we checked in in advance) we left our luggages at the reception, they said they will put them in our room when it will be ready. When the room was ready, my luggages were still at the reception. I came down to ask for my luggages and the 2 girls here gave me my 6 luggages and left me alone in the middle of the lobby... ciao ! We hope you have enough arms to carry all your luggage to your room. I appreciate...
- People are "reserving" beds around the pool from 9am, but these beds will remain unoccupied for hours
- champagne is served in plastic glass at the beach or at the pool bar. Are we speaking Luxury hotel here ?
- spg member ? ho ? what's this ? You want to see a room that could accomodate your whole family. Sorry, not possible.
Well, in fact, it seems that this hotel is made for people who can waist money without paying attention to what they get for it.
This Hotel was a stop during our trip from a "leading hotel of the world" to a "Relais & Chateaux". It was the most expensive, but far from the best.

I booked this hotel for a weekend break and to celebrate my partners birthday.
From check in to check out, it was a fabulous experience.
There was a two and a half hour wait for my room but this was due to the New Years festivities the night before and the website did specify check in was at 15h00.
The wait was not too unpleasant given the lovely bar. Service was good and coffee even better.
I was checked in by Kathy who was amazingly efficient and pleasant.
W Hotels, could not have picked anyone better to represent the company at the front desk and Kathy gave a very positive first impression, ensuring check in was speedy and looked after us very well.
I mentioned we had come to celebrate my partners birthday and the following morning we were surprised when room service arrived with a birthday cake and two bottles of Cava. Given the size of this hotel chain it was a very personal touch and much appreciated.
Our room was on the twenty third floor with spectacular views of the ocean. What a treat to wake up to that every morning! Room service was excellent,
The hotel facilities were what would be expected from a five star hotel. The Barceloneta was a step outside and allowed for great walks. La Rambla was a twenty minute walk and we could not have asked for a better location.
The staff, without exception, were amazingly friendly and courteous.
I would thoroughly recommend W Hotel Barcelona for a break. We will certainly come back.

Perfect Hotel by the sea. Very good helping staff. .Super breakfast Very good Spa and gym.
No good security coming from the beach (door was open must of the time ) , very noisy Hotel , the background music was to loud and all over the place...no quiet zone's !!!!; NO INSIDE swimming pool and the outside pool is in the shade during winter time . Bar the Eclipse is more a Night Club than a bar and this even at 07 pm .

Barcelona is an amazing city and the W hotel is the only place I stay when I visit. Great location, breathtaking views from the rooms, facilities are on point, and the staff are extremely helpful and knowledgeable. I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Barcelona and I for one will not stay anywhere else when I visit.
