I booked a suite with my family and 1.5 year old for 2 nights. Given my baby's schedule, we stayed at the room a lot which is why we booked a suite. It was spacious with great hardware like sound system (although it takes some learning curve to master it). Unfortunately the guest toilet has very strong smell of smoke. I climbed up to look at the ceiling and discovered a lighter. I am allergic to smell of cigarette so I always book non-smoking when I travel. Therefore, I was very surprise. I waited a day and hope the smell would go away but it did not. I called Jessica, the manager in the reservation team (I booked directly with W Taipei) and immediately escalated my case to the welcome desk manager, Kevin. Both of them dropped by at different point of my stay (by the pool, in my room) and within 2 hours, they arranged another suite (an upgrade) for me. For me, I think they have been very professional and put their minds to how to make my stay more pleasant. I am also impressed by how the team were putting their full effort in damage control (e.g. forming an investigation team). Apart from that, the pool is great for baby (one side is shallow water). Location is great - you are in the mall in 2 min after walk out from the room. I will definitely come back to W Taipei.

I am travelling for business pinging regularly few cities -- Singapore, Shanghai, Taipei, Seoul, Tokyo, San Francisco, Chicago, Milan, London and Munich... In Taipei I am staying regularly at W Taipei. This is a unique location Worldwide -- from the beginning to the end! Let's starting for the... elevevator! As soon you get in the elevator you feel the "scent" (unique scent..) of W Hotel.The elevator is open to the 10th floor and the lobby and lounge give you a feel of being in the "right place". Beatifull people, fantatisc lounge and increadible pool. Very relaxing.
The hotel is fancy, but very practical. The Fitness center is one of the best WW. The service is great and they are trying to upgrade me all the time is possible. If I get a suite... it is heaven!! The suite are increadible for space and features. They are also very usefull for have meeting with collegues or just get a cofee/tee with friends. The Bliss products are great. Location is number 1 in Taipei (close to 101 and several shopping mall and bank). Breakfast in outstanding for service and quality of food and you can find couple, family and business table if you ask for it. I did not try the spa yet... In short this is the best of the best compared with many of the hotels in other cities and absolutely "the N. 1" in Taipei.

I have stayed here about half a dozen times, each time upgraded to a spacious Marvelous Suite with gorgeous city views. Some of the upgrades were complimentary platinum upgrade and some used suite upgrade certificates, the overall success was 100%. The hotel in a great location directly above the MRT City Hall station, offers what I consider the best views, facilities, and top service in Taipei. Definitely 5 star.
Unfortunately, the over 1000 sq. ft. suites with fantastic views apparently attract a lot of younger people to hold private parties. Every single stay the suite was filled with either cigarette or grass smells or alcohol smells or both, mixed with the strong odors of detergent used to clean the room. This experience was amazingly also 100%.
I have also heard from the children of some friends in Taipei that their friends have rented the suite and then let a dozen or more others to go in for partying.
The staff are always very pleasant and helpful, but the check in process has been slow most of the times. Some of the extraordinary delays appear to be related to the time the counter agent trying to find a specific suite for upgrade.
Overall a great hotel on an excellent location. Hopefully there can be some serious consideration of the tradeoff of profit versus quality in managing the rental of the suites.

On an award stay and booked a wonderful room which was the basic room type. Understood the hotel was full (first day of 2013) hence no complimentary upgrades available. There was a a points upgrade available for a suite however wasn't worth it due to the peak season. Managed to get my room around 3:30pm and was assigned room 2009.
There were plenty of space everywhere in the room and the view was overlooking the city. Everything was state of the art and the deco was the hip and funky W style. Drapes were automatic with a push of a button. First time I used a fully automatic toilet too. Service was top notch here and too bad didn't have a chance to visit other parts of the hotel grounds. For some reason all the hotel staff, men or women, looked great and at their best. It was as though models were hired to work there.
Right smack beside Taipei City Hall MRT station and walking distance towards Taipei 101, the location is central to everything. A great place to start your travels around the city. Taxi lines up at the entrance so not much waiting necessary.
Check out was quick and had a friendly chat with an Assistant Welcome Manager. Understood that all W Hotels are styled and decorated differently. He escorted me and my luggage to the taxi downstairs and off I went.... This was my first W Hotel stay and it didn't disappoint.

If this wasn't the "W Hotel," I would say that it was excellent. However, it is and I witnessed some great staff help and some poor. I made a mistake reserving a room. Instead of reserving a room for one night, I reserved an entire week. I didn't mean to do this and didn't realize that I had made the mistake. I was notified two days later via email that I cancelled the room. I know there's a lot of traffic that comes through the W hotel, but two days notification is a little extreme for such a high valued hotel. I then called the try to fix my situation. I had a horrible time talking to the reservation girl. I know that we are in Taiwan, and English is a second language here, but I couldn't understand her due to her accent and she didn't speak loudly and clearly into the receiver. Another surprise from such a high valued hotel. I didn't want to be rude but I had to ask her multiple times to speak louder. I then came down to the hotel to speak to the staff in person. They instantly helped me and fixed the problem with only a minor cancelation fee. I was very happy about that. My stay was great and I had a great time. I loved the breakfast. Please tell the clerks at the reservation desks to speak INTO the phone. I know that they may be shy but there comes a point where I get annoyed to keep having to tell the staff to put the phone by their mouth and not have it hang idle while they use the computer. Thank you and sorry for any inconveniences.

The hotel's got pretty good location and view, but there were a lot of small issues/inconvenience that I did not expect to see from my past experiences at other W hotels. 1. The basic material used to build the interior of the room looks so much cheaper than other W. cheap looking composite wooden wall panels. Also seems to be saving money on the bath products, used to get more than just 3 things. 2. the Frontdesk staff upgraded me to a slightly better room with a view of taipei101, but added a joking comment that he was "forced to" upgrade me due to all the basic WoW rooms were filled. I was SPG platinum for years, so unless you were upgrading me to a suite, no sly comment is needed. Plus it looks like the hotel was not close to full capacity. 3. I noted in my reservation that this was for a birthday celebration, so the hotel left a note saying a small birthday cake was available for us if we called in room dining. the bad part was the note was left under the door after 1030 pm, so never got to use it before checkout. 3. JBL brand ipod speaker by the bed, but did not support my ipod touch when i plug it in....? 4. in room movies was not functioning when i clicked on menu. Had to get front desk to call tech support to come fix it at 11PM. It took about 30 mins to fix. 5. the sound system to play ipod is connected to the tv sound system, so between songs the tv sounds jumps out.
these things are not major problems, but just shows to me that this W hotel has a lot more work ahead before it can be on par with service provided by other W hotels.

Without a doubt, this hotel has a buzz, in the main entrance level, at the lobby on the 10F, in the gym, at the pool, at the bar, you name it. If you are looking for a quiet break, the only quiet you will get is in the room. Everywhere else has an energy about it....good and bad, depending on your needs and your interest. Personally, it works for me because there enough of the quiet when and where I need it e.g. at the gym and the restaurants on the upper level.
But other comments....there must be something right missing, right? In the past, there was an option of different types of pillows in the room (you could call for the type of pillow you fancy based on a pillow ‘menu’) but this has been withdrawn with nothing to replace this great feature. Also, in the past, they would offer a little fruit basket together with a few chocolates in a champagne glass. This has been replaced with 3 test tube looking containers containing M&M candies and nuts. This is funky looking but definitely not for me....if cost is a consideration, hotel should offer guests option of fruits or candies. Not everyone fancies candies /nuts. Fruits are a healthy and harmless option.
Next is the liquid soap. When one bottle is half used, for goodness sake provide an additional new bottle. Otherwise, for people like me who showers twice a day, I run out of soap in the morning…..
Newspaper as well….please ask when checking in what is the preferred newspaper…not everyone reads International Herald Tribune (yawn).
One of the more expensive hotels around but great all round hotel otherwise!

I had a 3 night stay in Taipei with my family of 4, 2 of which are under the age of 5. We picked the W Hotel because it is conveniently located above the Taipei City Hall MRT station, not to mention that there's a shopping mall underneath.
The hotel has a very modern and chic feel and offers a very different vibe. The lobby is located on the 10th floor and offers very convenient access (less than a 15 second walk) to the checkin counters and elevators to the room. In addition, the buffet restaurant is also located near the elevators, which was very convenient when travelling to and from the room with little children.
The room itself was nicely decorated, clean, and comfortable with amenities you'd expect from a 5 star hotel. Love the fact that as an SPG member you get free Wi-Fi access around the hotel which was useful for us in using the Internet to plan our way around Taipei.
Lastly I'd like to comment on the exceptional service. Everybody on the staff that we encountered, whether in the hallways, at the restaurant, or at the reception/concierge counters were extremely courteous, polite, and made us all feel very welcome. Normally, this is something I don't really remember, but even after we departed Taipei, my wife and I recounted to others how great the service was. When our 3 year old was acting fussy on the way out of the hotel, a staff member noticed and asked if we'd like to borrow a stroller to use for the duration of our stay. That attention to customers and their needs is what makes the entire experience very memorable.
I highly recommend this hotel, and we'd gladly stay here again the next time we are in Taipei.
