Rated 2 out of 5 by Cherokee Have you ever sat on a toilet "sideways"?
No leg room in bathroom. Little water pressure. Confusing lobby with the old nightclub atmosphere.

Rated 2 out of 5 by KSJHWK Well Below Expectations
I stayed in room 1024 at the W in City Center. While I read reviews that the 'wonderful room' would be small, the size of the room was the least of my concerns. The carpet in the hallway to our room on the 10th floor had several white -colored stains which were present our entire three-day stay. In addition, the ‘wonderful room’ we stayed in had all of the following maintenance/housekeeping issues: stained carpet, paint splatters on the toilet-seat and cover, several fractures/chips in the porcelin tub, and paint splatters on the porcelin washtub. Also the room had dingy lighting, cheap IKEA style furniture, and ceramic tile in the bathroom except for one small 36 inch wide marble pedestal sink and small size of the room. Oh, and the bed was horribly uncomfortable. I am a side-sleeper, and my entire side would go numb if I spent any longer than 20 minutes on a side, so I tried my hand at back and stomach sleeping, neither of which were restful. The only ‘good’ aspects of our stay were the front desk staff including the pre-arrival e-mail from Vanessa alerting us to the El-Train noise if we did not choose an ‘inner room.’ I very much appreciated the heads up and thought staff was excellent. However, if I had to do it again, I would certainly stay elsewhere.

Rated 3 out of 5 by seve Not what I expected
I always thought the W brand was a luxury hotel that would meet my highest expectations in every aspect of our stay.
Unfortunately in this case it didn't live up to the expectations. Even though the lobby or 'living room' was a little crowded and claustrophobic in its layout and maybe a little over the top in its trendy design I thought it was a nice enough space. The gym was a pleasant surprise - nice size and amenities.
But where this property failed to impress was in the guest room - the space you spend the majority of your stay. I realize this building isn't new but that didn't mean the rooms had to feel old as well. For every clever built-in and branded element was an equally lackluster detail.
Maybe instead of spending time developing their own language for every branded element in the building (which apparently is so intuitive that it requires a translation list in the guest directory) they could focus on a functional room layout, creating a bathroom that lives up to the higher end image the building portrays or maybe even a little effort could be put into making sure the TV actually receives a signal when you have it on. As a higher end brand you should know the devil's in the details.
I do give credit to the folks who work at this property though; everyone we interacted with did a great job of conveying the type of service I expected.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Misty71 Very disappointed in Chicago (City Center) location!!!!
I was expecting a top-notch experience and was deeply disappointed. The staff was friendly and attentive, but the facility was far from stellar. The thermostat was installed directly next to the window, so never had an accurate room temp reading. Being in Chicago, this caused the heat to be blowing, non-stop, even when the thermostat was switched to OFF. After getting out of the shower, I had to crack the window open to get the room to cool off. This just caused the thermostat to blow more hot air since the thermostat thought it was only 44* in my room, but it was likely near 70*, which is too hot when getting ready (especially when using the blow dryer). Engineering came and switched out the thermostat after the first night of getting little sleep (had to open the window in the night to get the room to cool off, but had to listen to the howling wind all night...which is quite loud in Chicago). Even with a new thermostat, the system continued to blow hot air and I had to continually have the window cracked open to cool the room below ~ 75*.
The room was extremely small and two people could not stay there comfortably. The bathroom counter was so small that you were forced to use the toilet as additional counter space, which is extremely disgusting! The counter was so close to the toilet that the toilet seat would rub against the toilet paper roll hanging on the side of the vanity. There was a shelf under the sink, but it was completely used up by the towels and blow dryer storage.
There was a dressing mirror, but no other options for putting on makeup or doing my hair outside of the matchbox size bathroom since there were NO electrical outlets near the dressing mirror.
The TV would not come on the first morning that I was there. I placed a call to ask them to look at it while I was at work. I don't know if they ever did, but the TV did come on that night. Much to my dismay, the TV would not come on the 2nd morning, though. The engineer ended up having to change out the TV.
After the engineer changed out the TV, the light installed inside the wall unit (built in with an inspirational saying) would not turn off, so I attempted to sleep with the light on all night as I was already in my PJs and did not feel like being bothered to call a THIRD time to engineering.
All three nights were anything but restful and relaxing.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Urbanstatue Labor Day getaway
My girlfriend and I chose Chicago as our Labor Day anniversary getaway and what better way to pamper than staying with W.
We had a lovely time despite some initial snags. Check in was easy and we were booked in a Cozy room on the 7th floor. Tho it was facing the street, it was at the end of a quiet hallway and we were up just high enough not to encounter much street noise. We had some issues with room keys not working at first and our bathroom sink plunger not rising. These were quickly fixed by the staff with apologies.
The bed was intensely comfortable. Some of the best non-medicated sleep I've had in a while! The shower was nice, tho could have had some more water pressure. We loved the Bliss products in the room.
After our arrival, we had reserved the Acura to take us to W Lakeshore for spa appointments. Tho I had confirmation from the W Insider, there was no reservation for us at the Acura desk. They quickly dismissed it as no problem and within minutes we were in an Acura with Mike who gave us great insider tips on restaurants and pointed out cool sites on our drive to Lakeshore.
W City Center's proximity to the "L", the Willis Tower, and the Chicago river made it great for us tourists. Because it's in Chicago's financial district tho, it's a bit dead on the weekends as far as restaurants and nightlife go. Thankfully, we did get great recs from the concierge on where to eat.
We plan to look up W City Center whenever we decide to visit again! Thanks!

Rated 3 out of 5 by Clark Eden saved our stay
I was so amazed by the wonderful customer service I received from Eden, our concierge, before and during our stay. She went above and beyond to make our stay very memorable. She was really the only delight during our stay. When we arrived, we were parked in a line outside for nearly 45 min waiting for valet. When I checked it, the person at the counter was very delightful, so I am very impressed with your customer service. When we arrived in our room, it was much smaller than I had expected, the bathroom was not up to par to say the least. There were fingerprints on the walls and hair in the tub. Our television kept cutting in and out whle we were watching programs. Although it looked beautiful, the bed was extremely uncomfortable and the shower, which was extremely sensitive meaning one small turn could leave you freezing or scalded. When we were prepared to check out, we had texted for the valet service and received a text back stating that that service was unavailable. So I went down to the concierge to have her call for our car. It took Benadryl an hour for our car to arrive and that was after I had to step outside to remind them. The valet seemed very flustered with keys all over the counter. He could not explain why we had waited so long. The gentlemen who brought our car around was very professional, however and we tipped him accordingly.
I feel like your hotel is severely overpriced for the lack of amenities that your guests receive. Especially the fact that I had to pay $55 for parking. I was also very disappointed that your hotel seems to be very high tech but you do not offer free WiFi. $15 is unacceptable. I will not be staying at your hotel again. The only thing that saved the entire visit was Eden who was truly amazing. I wish I could just pick her up and take her to a hotel that matches her quality.

Rated 5 out of 5 by ginlee Super friendly staff
I took my daughter to Chicago for a play and decided to stay at the W Chicago City Center due to it's close proximity to the BOA Theatre and the rate included valet parking. Upon arrival, we were immediately impressed with the warm welcome from the staff. The valet attendants were smiling and held doors for you. The check in attendant was so friendly and welcoming. She took her time with us and answered all of my questions with a smile. I didn't feel like she was rushing me on my way. We stayed on the top floor (22nd) and we were delighted when we opened the door. The rooms were so spacious and decorated in sophisticated yet simple and modern design. The room and the floor we were on, was very quiet and peaceful. The Concierge attendants were also very helpful in getting us last minute dinner reservations. She made several phone calls and finally got us in at our desired time. I was also pleased to know that our car did not have to be removed by check out time but rather within 24 hours of check in. We wanted to take a cab the next morning to do some shopping on Michigan Ave. We were able to check our bags after we checked out and the guy that took our bags was very helpful in recommending a diner for a quick breakfast. When we got back from shopping and were wating for our car, two different employees offered us bottled water and also asked us how our shopping was (they remembered!). My daughter and I kept commenting to eachother that we couldn't believe how nice everyone was and that we would definitely be returning. I will be recomending this hotel to anyone who is going to Chicago. Also, the location of this hotel is perfect. It is within walking distance or a short cab right to a lot of fabulous places. The staff made all the difference in the world and it is a lovely hotel. My daughter had a great 20th birthday. Thank you W for an awesome experience!

Rated 5 out of 5 by ToAidan W stands for World of Wonderful!
There's a saying that goes: "Ask and you shall receive".
For W, I asked and oh boy, did I receive. Upon booking my reservation through the Starwood Preferred Guest website, I was put in touch with Laurelin, an "Insider" at the W Chicago City Center, who worked with Maida, Eden and others to help make my stay as comfortable and amazing as possible. Since I was on the trip for both business and leisure, and it also happened to be my birthday, Laurelin went out of her way to accommodate my requests (room upgrade, wi-fi service, welcome package, etc.).
Chicago was beautiful, but it was the staff, the service and my excellent stay at the W Chicago City Center that made it a special occasion. The Spectacular room was spacious, in comparison to ANY properties I have stayed in (see picture). I stayed on the 9th floor and there was virtually no noise. The room is house-kept in the morning. What I did was I requested "No disturb" the night before and when I left the next morning, I notified the front desk to please ask someone to house-keep the room.
I also like the extra step they take for security purposes: you must have your key card to operate the elevators and use the fitness center.
The location was perfect: blocks away from Michigan Avenue, The Art Instituted, Willis Tower and other hot spots of the city. I was lucky enough to witness both the Blackhawks victory parade and the Pride parade!
You also have the option of trying the Acura Experience when you're a guest of the hotel. Basically, you can reserve this complimentary service for any drop-off within 5 miles from the hotel. I took advantage of this for my restaurant reservations, shopping sigh-setting and to go to the office. The car was spacious and lived up to the Acura brand name.
In trying to unwind, I checked out their fitness center and I was glad I did! It is a fully loaded and functional, state-of-the-art gym with all the free weights and equipments you'll need.
If you forget any basic amenities, the front desk will help you, whether it be toothbrush, deodorant, contact solutions, Advil, etc.
Thanks Laurelin, Alejandra, Eden, TK, Ben, Haley, Alana and Jay for a wonderful stay. I will be sure to tell my clients, colleagues, friends and family about you, and guess what, I will back next month!
