Rated 3 out of 5 by Wedding31 Great Staff..Construction and design flaws
Room 221 at this location has the elevator mechanisms outside the walls. Can hear constant noise. Had to move to 5th floor room. Frosted glass window of shower faces room with no privacy. You can see the person showering. Only works for couples. Bathroom door slams into wall facing the headboard of the bed. Door to hallway opens and exposes anyone at the bathroom sink. Doors to hallway are heavy and slam shut the entire stay. Staff was very polite.

Rated 2 out of 5 by macconn74 I'm Officially Old
As a 53 year old business traveler I struggled through the entire stay. I am not even sure I understand the concept. Small desk, really bad food, no tables in "dining" area, loudest elevators I have ever heard, amenities in wall dispensers. I actually felt like I was in a cheap youth hostel versus a upper end hotel. When "style" and appealing to the twitter crowd outweigh functionality for the business traveler it is an issue. Obviously my first and last stay in an Aloft.

Rated 1 out of 5 by KKTP worst experience ever
We had a terrible experience. I called to let the front desk know we would be checking in around 10:00 pm and confirm that we had 2 queen beds. I had already pre-paid for my reservation. The girl at the front desk told me everything was all set for our arrival. When we arrived there were no regular rooms with queen beds. Only a handicapped room or a king. The handicapped room didn't work because my husband is too tall for the shower and the beds were almost on the floor. So they said they could put us in the king with what I though would be a roll away bed for the night. We ended up in this tiny room and they brought us a terrible blow up mattress that wouldn't stay inflated. The guy that brought it up nearly shoved it at me at the door along with the sheets. I asked for a blanket and he said I didn't need one because he brought 2 sheets. He also brought no extra pillow. The next day they moved us into a room with 2 queens. The following day room service never came to clean our room and we had to call down for fresh towels. Then when we went to check out, I was overcharged on my bill. After talking to a manager she straightened that out but it was the icing on the cake. I have stayed at many Starwood properties and have never had this type of experience. However, this one was so bad that I may never stay at an A Loft again. As a side note, while we were there we found out it was a pet friendly hotel and our friends found dog feces under their bed.
There was no manager on duty they night of our arrival and the hotel was sold out because of near by events.

We spent three nights here and the hotel was very good. The staff was always helpful and the location is great. So close to the airport and had a wide variety of area restaurants. Also it was close to the highway for a quick ride to downtown Charleston. Would come back to this property.

Love this hotel...staff friendly and helpful. On one visit, I arrived unusually tired and hungry - Employee L. immediately greeted me with a smile and ordered my favorite food from the kitchen. I was so thankful for her kindness.
ultramodern furnishings and lighting too :)

Aloft Charleston was an excellent hotel. My family and I really enjoyed everything about our brief stay in Charleston. Lisa at the front desk was extremely friendly and helpful. She gave us some great recommendations. Would definitely recommend this hotel if you are travelling to Charleston!

Rated 1 out of 5 by alg1 Not what I would expect from Starwood
The North Charleston Aloft was a a hotel I took a chance on since I am always happy with Starwood Hotels. I honestly felt like I was in some sort of weird euro-hostel. The room smelled like a port-a-potty, the duvet was of very poor quality with lumpy hard feathers (if it was even feathers), the microwave, which I did not use was filthy, and it was just way more barebones than I expcted. I would have preferred higher quality bedding, and you could loose the bliss bath products and coffee etc...
Also the decor and lighting in the room was just not for me, though I did know it would be modern. The dark blue paint made it feel like a prison cell.
I won't stay at Alofts again and would not recommend them.

Chose this hotel fora one night business trip. Appalled to see how dirty and run-down the room was. The beds are like sleepign on wire, the room had an awful musty odor, there were stains on the walls and carpets, and the cieling was cracking with water damage. I have no idea why Starwood describes this establishment as a "Vision of the W Hotel". I'll never book here again and certainlly wouldn't recommend it to any friend or family.

This was my first stay in an Aloft. It was unimpressive, and the room was very noisey. There noise kept us up most of the night.
Also, The staff though friendly, was not very efficent. When I arrived I asked that they arrange transportation for me the next day. I mentioned I needed a ride to the port of Charleston by noon the next day. I asked at least three times hoping to insure a car would be at the hotel for us. I was assured that the arrangements were made. But it was not.

Stay away! They are friendly but that is as goog as it gets. We had one issue after another. Let me start by saying we had to move to three different rooms because of the uncleanliness. The first room we were given was filthy. The linen on the bed was soiled and we found a dead Gnat in between the sheets. The next room they tried to put us in had a bad odor. Finally they gave us a room that appeared clean. The room had poor ventilation. We will never stay there again.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Wally Overcharged for stay
The stay was fine however someone overcharged our credit card and someone changed our checkout from 4 Jan to 5 Jan. without our authorization or consent. I am very upset and highly disappointed with these issues. I sincerely hope this will not happen again and it will be corrected asap. On the bright side, the clerks that checked us in were both professional and prompt.
The room and the property were also very clean.

Rated 1 out of 5 by NotHappy70 This hotel is not at all what I expected from the W Group
The hotel is dark and not what an SPG guest who stays at W's or even Sheraton's would expect. The one good thing I can say is the staff is great, but the room I was in was not clean, the thermostat on the wall did not work, so I used the manual controls, not an issue, except the unit did not ever turn off once it reached the temp I wanted. I will not stay at another aloft hotel again and I don't recommend, even for the dollar concise traveler.

Rated 2 out of 5 by mab003 Degrading
I have stayed at this hotel previously, but will not stay here again, and I will no longer recommend this property to anyone.
The material condition of this hotel is degrading and is not reflective of the “vision”; go to the 4th floor and just walk the hall, the lights are heat damaged, the benches have laminate peeling off, and while the rooms were clean, they had issues (room 433, look at the shower floor tiles).

Rated 5 out of 5 by hdawg Quality stay exceeded expectations
I've stayed at 5 different aloft properties in the US and would gladly stay here again. Compared to other properties this is on or above par with other aloft experiences. This stay was for a small conference but traveled with my wife and dog for a long weekend.
Our original room had a problem with Air Conditioning but when mentioning it to the front desk staff they promptly and without discussion moved us to a different room down the hall; at which point we were good. All of our interactions with staff were excellent. Standouts were Tierra at the main desk and holly at a bar.
Our room had a small fridge, ample power outlets, and functioning (yet not the fastest) Internet. The pool and gym facilities are well maintained as are the grounds and public areas.
Would highly recommend this property for family or business, short or extended stay. While we didn't use it there is an airport shuttle available as well.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Nicki1076 Would not stay again
After spending a whole day in Charleston, I wanted to come back to a cozy bed. Negative...bed was hard and very uncomfortable. I could not find the ice machine, only to learn bags of ice were for sale at front desk. Breakfast was for sale for $6.00 per person for a microwavable sausage biscuit. Hotel had some neat features, but comfort is very important...which this hotel lacked. Would not stay here again. Very disappointed

Rated 3 out of 5 by Chris558 This hotel is loud
We booked two rooms for myself and my wife in one room with a king size bed and my two kids in a room with 2 queens. In order to get these rooms next to each other I was put on the second floor despite my request for a higher floor. When we got to the rooms, both had king beds, so we had to switch my kid's room to one on the other end of the hotel. The rooms were right above the roof of the pool, so the equipment was so loud that we hardly slept. People were generally nice other than the bar maid who was obviously having a bad day.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Aaodao Dirty, smelly, uncaring
From the moment I walk in, I had the feeling this stay
Would be "interesting". The checking staff was eating at the desk, the entry carpet was loose, and dirty, the elevator smell if rotten eggs, and the hallway smell of sewage. Carpets dirty in the room' hallway, not what I expected from a Starwood brand
Will never return

Rated 2 out of 5 by vinyljunkie2012 Was this hotel a former storage facility...?
The doors were big and heavy. The windows were spaced too far apart and the walls felt concrete like. It almost felt like a glorified jail cell. Like it were a former prison or storage space. I'm sorry, I have no desire to stay again. Staff was great. It was the room that really left me cold.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Richardandstephen No hot water!
We like this brand. Unfortunately, the morning of our early 5:30 a.m. departure there was no hot water for a shower. We ran the water for 15 minutes without success.
Warren, the desk clerk, was nice and courteous about it and called in the maintenance staff pronto, but we had to get going.

I was surprised that this 3 year old hotel was in the condition it was. I had stayed in an ALoft in the Birmingham area and it was great. This hotel lacked cleanlines and seemed to have taken alot of abuse to the walls, etc. I will not easily be swayed to stay at this hotel again.

Not the typical Aloft hotel. Most I stay in are very nice. This one I must say lacks the same cleanliness and appeal of the others. I usually stay here on every trip to the area but after this stay which consisted of a mouse and ants I will not be returning.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Sheresse The Hotel is Terrible!!!!!!!!!
This hotel was terrible. I am a SPG member and based on this stay I am cancelling my membership. I booked 2 rooms, one for myself and one for my mother. It was totally unacceptable. Please see below for my complete review.
1.At check-in we received our room keys and proceeded to our rooms. I walked my mother to her room and when we opened the door we noticed that someone still had their personal items in the room and basically the room was still occupied!!! So my mom and I went back to the front desk and they gave her another room.
2.The room quality was terrible. The rooms did not smell fresh and had stains on the wall. Also, the ceiling had a terrible uneven finish, it was very cheap looking. On top of all of that my room had ants all over the coffee pot and creamers! I went to the front desk and they didn’t have anymore rooms but sprayed the room and gave me a free night. I was so exhausted that I finally went to sleep. Well when I woke up I noticed a fake flower clip in the sheets!!!!! Basically the sheets weren’t clean. I am sooooooooooo disappointed and SPG never have to worry about me again.
3.Oh yeah the bartender was rude.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Conley A little less form, a little more function
Overall, I will stay at this hotel when I am in Charleston by myself. The staff, location and general vibe exceeded my expectations. The room electronics are first rate and the work space and bed are fine. The "closet" is impractical, and to my mind an example of form over function. Take out the shelves and put in a closet that would be useful for one or two persons. Also, as a business traveler one requirement is a good reading/TV chair with a good reading light. Missing here. The lack of closet space and places to sit would make this tough for a couple. Overall, though, a good value for money in Charleston, especially for a party of one.

Rated 3 out of 5 by amy21 Wouldn't choose again
Planned a girls getaway weekend with 12 ladies. Called the day of and asked for an early check in. Was simply told "nope."
Got to hotel and waited FOREVER at the Starwood Preferred check in and was ignored by the only girl at the desk who was too bust giving out extra towels to college students headed to the beach.
When checking in, was told that the rate would be 180.00 instead of 120.00 per room because there was a $50.00 deposit REQUIRED PER ROOM. (We had 4 rooms). We are all in our late 30's early 60's. We were checking out at 4:00am the next day to have a sunrise breakfast on the beach. So, after paying $800.00, at 3:30pm, we were able to check into our rooms.
12 hours later at check out, waited FOREVER again to get our $200.00 deposit back.
Rooms walls were PAPER thin, and we heard every word for the other room's tv.
A bar of the last guests soap was left in our shower!
NO ICE MACHINES.
The best (really only good part) was the bartender Holly at WXYZ. Our trip also included a "pay it forward" element where we each decided to put together money and decide collectively to give it to a complete stranger. After spending time with Holly, listening to her story, seeing her enthusiasm for her work, seeing her get very little if any tips because of the free drink vouchers, we decided to give it to her. I've never seen someone so appreciative over $76.00. It did our hearts good. Best wishes Holly! You will go far in life.
